How do I find the shared amount of edges in a graph given I know the amount of shared vertices?

say we have a completed graph K3 and K4 and we know that the union of the two graphs shares 2 vertices. Graphically if we draw it out they share 1 edge in common but how can we go about generalizing this for larger graphs and more shared verticies?
