    line | through (4, 9)

    through (7, 27)

    x-intercept | 5/2 = 2.5

    y-intercept | -15

    slope | 6

    First find the slope:

    m = rise/run

    m = ∆y / ∆x

    m = (y₂ - y₁) / (x₂ - x₁)

    m = (27 - 9) / (7 - 4)

    m = 18 / 3

    m = 6

    ---------------------

    Slope intercept form of a line is

    y = mx + b

    where b is the y-intercept

    To find "b" (the y-intercept)

    Plug in m = 6 and either point

    using point (4, 9)

    9 = 6(4) + b

    9 = 24 + b

    Subtract 24 from both sides

    -15 = b

    b = -15

    The y-intercept is -15 <–––––

    -----------------------

    Extra credit:

    The equation for the line is

    y = 6x - 15
