The only “Ten Commandments” I know of are in The Old Testament so are in no way “Christian”. I'll assume that's what you mean.

If by “agree with” them you mean that I would support them and think they are good “rules” for life and for a civilised society, the simple answer would be “no”.

Obviously I believe that it is wrong to lie, steal or commit murder, but then I don't think that's in contention. I think that jealousy and committing adultery are best avoided and I think it's  generally a good thing to “honour” one's parents although that probably depends on the parents - some are dreadful. The rest? No, they don’t apply nowadays.

A few of them, not all.  Most are strictly to enforce Christian dogma, not human reality.

If you visit any prison then you would conclude they do more than theists do

The laws against LYING, stealing and killing?

    Sure.

Every civilisation had them long before the Jews came up with Decalogue.

    The rest are just nonsense.

The ten commandments are Old Testament. There are two different sets of them and they are completely different (Exodus 20 and Exodus 34). For Christians, there are two commandments given by Jesus and these were to love God and to love your neighbour as yourself. There were, he said, no commandments more important than those (Mark 12:28-31).

As an atheist I do not follow Jesus' first commandment and could not be expected to, but I do find his second commandment a very good way to get on with others and have no problems with it. It is such a pity that the religious right ignores this commandment for the most part. If they took it on board, we might think of them as Christians again.

I'm unaware of the Christian 10 commandments.

I've watched the Charlton Heston movie and I didn't see any Christian characters.

The first 4 just plain don't apply to us. The rest vary in importance. Don't kill or steal I can agree with in all but the most dire circumstances.

  • Perhaps four of them have any relevance.
