  • Party scene in Savannah for St Patricks Day?

What is the party scene like in Savannah after the parade in Savannah, Ga? I have heard it is pretty crazy. Where are the best places to go? St. Pats day is on a Thursday this year. Will the partying continue thru Friday and Saturday, or will it mostly be limited to just St Pat's day? I would prefer responses from someone who has been in Savannah on St Pat's day before. Thanks.

  • Chapter 7 Bankruptcy question - Which exemptions do I use, Federal or State?

I live in Florida now, but I have lived here only for about 1.5 years. So, I know I can't file as a Florida resident (730 day rule). Prior to Florida, I lived in Indiana for 30 years, so as I understand it by the 180 rule, Indiana is the state I would have to use. Indiana requires you to use their states's exemptions and NOT the federal exemptions, but it DOES NOT allow you to use the state exemptions if you are not domiciled in Indiana. Since I live in Florida then I cannot use the Indiana state exemptions, so that takes me back to the Federal exemptions. Is this correct? If I wait another 6 months, I will gain Florida residency and since Florida requires the use of their exemptions and NOT the Federal exemptions, I would then be required to use Florida exemptions. I don't own a home, so the Federal exemptions would be better for me that the Florida exemptions, so it would be best if I file in the next 6 months before I become an official Florida resident. Does that sound right?

  • Problem with Gas Water Heater?

My gas water heater is not working right. I just moved into this place and noticed no hot water. I read the instructions to light the pilot and set the temp. Burner fired up and a couple hours later I have hot water. Two days later I have no hot water again. On a side note: I tried to cook some pasta last night and my gas stove could not heat water to a boil. Not a huge stock pot, just a smaller 3 quart saucepan and it took 20 minutes to get small bubbles but it never got it to a rapid boil. I had the burner on the highest setting. So, is it possible that I have a problem with my gas supply? Or is it just a coincidence that both of these appliances just don't work. This place was empty for a while. I think it was a foreclosure. When I moved in I had to contact that gas company and they had to put in a meter because the old one had been removed (by the gas company since it was vacant). Where do I start with trying to fix these problems? Should I call the gas company first?

  • Facebook etiquette - refusing friend requests?

Background - I am in my mid 30's and I have just joined Facebook. I looked up a couple of old friends from my high school days and added them as friends. No problem. It has been great catching up with some old friends. Fast forward a few days. I am now being bombarded with requests from individuals from high school to add as a friend. I went to a relatively small school and these people have obviously found me through mutual "friends". The problem is that most of these people I barely knew in high school and I am dumbfounded that they would send me a friend request.

So, my question is: Is it considered rude to deny a friend request? My basic info and what I am doing these days is in my public profile, so any of these people can satisfy their curiosity just by looking at my profile. I have done the same for some old classmates, just to see what they look like these days and their family status, etc. Do we really need to be "friends"?

I would prefer feedback from others who are around my same age. Did you experience the same thing when you first joined? Have you been ignored by old "friends" and did you take offense to it, or is this it a common thing and you just move on?

  • What features should I look for in a surround sound system?

I need to upgrade from an old pro-logic setup that I have owned for 15 years. I don't think I need a 7.1 system, but a 5.1 system would at least get me into this century. Are these all-in-one systems any good or should I buy a new receiver? I have a good set of main speakers, but I do need to get new surrounds since my old ones were in wall units that stayed when I moved. Can I use the main speakers that I already own with an all-in-one system and just use the surrounds that come with the system ? A full range speaker would have to be better than one of those tiny speakers, right? What other features are a must have and what can I do without? I plan to hook this up to a new 1080p TV. The TV has HMDI and component video inputs.

  • Problem with Maytag Performa Dryer model PYE2300?

First, I noticed that the drum was not turning. I'd just hear a kind of buzzing noise. I figured out that I could get it going with a little help. I just hold the door switch, reach in, and grab the drum and give it a whirl. It will start and then I shut the door really fast and it will run. It works, but is a pain. Next, I noticed that if I do several loads, the top of the machine, near the back and left gets VERY hot and the dryer fails to start at all, even with my trick. I have to let it cool down for a while before doing another load. Do I have two seperate problems, or is this part of the same problem?

  • Bathtub drain backs up when weather is very cold...?

The bathroom is above the garage. The garage is not heated. I am assuming that the drain must be freezing, since it only happens when the weather is below freezing for more than a full day. If water is collecting in the drain it must either have negative pitch or there must be a trap installed and the water in the trap is freezing causing a blockage. Anyone else seen this problem??? Any easy fixes?? I would have to cut a hole in the drywall of the ceiling in the garage to access it, but should I just remove the trap?? What problems could that cause?

  • How do I value a damaged tree for insurance purposes?

Long story short, a guy ran his car off the road into my front yard and hit a tree. The tree is a complete loss. He has insurance (thank god!). How much should I expect to receive from the insurance company for the value of the tree? The tree is a mature Blue Spruce. It was about 20-25 feet tall, had an 8-10 inch trunk, and a spread at the base of about 15 feet or so. I know that I should at least be entitled to the cost of removing the tree/debris and planting a new tree. But you can’t really plant a 25 foot Blue Spruce! So, the problem I am having is determining what value should I be entitled to considering the “maturity” of the tree? Who can I call to get an “appraisal”? Can someone who is in the insurance industry or with tree appraisal experience give me a ball park figure given the info I have provided? Other info: I live in a subdivision of custom brick homes on a large lot (about 1 acre) and my home is worth about $275k.

The tree sat on the edge of my property in the front yard in a group of two trees (the other one was slightly damaged also, but can probably be salvaged) that provide some shading from the neighbor and the road. Obviously, the amount of shading is now reduced and the aesthetics of the “group” of two trees is messed up to the point that I am considering just removing both trees.

  • Dish Player 625 DVR - User opinions on dual TV mode?

I am considering switching to Dish Network and was looking at their dual tuner DVRs. While most DVRs now are dual tuner, I have not seen the ability to output to two different TVs before. What I would like to hear is opinions on the practicality of the dual TV mode from people who have used it in this setup.

I can see advantages to having one source for playback of recorded shows, but how often do you run into situations when different members of the household want to watch different live programs on the two TVs, interfering with the ability to record a third program?? Is there any safeguard so that a person on the second TV does not change the channel and interrupt the recording of a show??

Also, can the volume button on the remote control be set to control a stereo receiver??

  • Can I revive dead spots in a Blue Spruce?

I have a large, Blue Spruce evergreen tree. The previous homeowner planted some bushes too close to the tree so that when both reached maturity, they were crowding each other. This caused the bushes to block much of the sunlight on one side of the spruce. I would like to remove the bushes, but I have noticed that much of that side of the spruce at the base is brown and dead due to no light. If I remove the bushes and the spruce gets more sunlight, will the dead spots revive themselves? Or will I just be left with a tree with a big dead spot in it? Is there some way that I can treat the tree to promote new growth in the dead spot?

  • Is it legal for me to wager money on a game of pool w/ my friend?

I live in Indiana. Like many states, it seems to me that Indiana defines "gambling" in terms of games of chance, but not in contests of skill or ability. I have noticed that local pubs often have pool or dart tournaments where contestants pay to enter and can win the pot. Am I correct in concluding that these tournaments are allowed in these games because they are games of skill? So, if this is allowed on a tournament level, then it should be allowed for an individual contest as well, correct?
