Problem with Maytag Performa Dryer model PYE2300?

First, I noticed that the drum was not turning. I'd just hear a kind of buzzing noise. I figured out that I could get it going with a little help. I just hold the door switch, reach in, and grab the drum and give it a whirl. It will start and then I shut the door really fast and it will run. It works, but is a pain. Next, I noticed that if I do several loads, the top of the machine, near the back and left gets VERY hot and the dryer fails to start at all, even with my trick. I have to let it cool down for a while before doing another load. Do I have two seperate problems, or is this part of the same problem?

the belt is slipping or else the drum guides on the front of the machine is wore out causing the drum to create excessive drag on the drum. the problems are all realted because the drum spinning slow wont let the fan across the heating element blow enough to keep the theraml overload from tripping out
