  • What was the name of that toy?

It was round, orange/red?, had a pull string with an arrow that pointed at a critter; that said "The cow says "Moo!"

  • Camping tomorrow - rain likely?

The forecast predicts rain is on the way.

Are there any ground prepping tricks that might make a difference in making the night more comfortable?

Things like a drainage trench around the uphill side of the tent or raking deep grooves under the floor.

I have a few tarps, a tent and a screen shelter and can even make a "ghetto" wall for the screenhouse with an old shower curtain. I have some extra guy cords and stakes for re-enforcing the tent and shelter.

    Anything else that might help?

  • Depressed buddy... what do do?

A buddy of mine is losing his will.

He seems depressed and counters almost every suggestion with a reason to avoid change. I've suggested seeing a doctor, but he doesn't have money or health benefits; he will absolutely not consider medication, due to a past addiction problem.

I've normally been the one he has had to nag to get out of the house and away from the computer or TV. Much of his distress seems to stem from the "Economy". He works as a handyman and many people are not doing the kind of work he is capable of or willing to do. A "real job" is out of the question due to a criminal background. I've suggested just coming clean during a job interview to show honesty and integrity or even doing an identity change, just to get a fresh start.

Illegal. Maybe, but he should deserve better than what he's been going through these past few years.

Sometimes I feel like a counselor trying to keep this guy from jumping out of the window. He truly feels that there is really nothing left to keep on going for.

So here he is... financially and spiritually bankrupt, no steady girlfriend (seems a big problem with him) and "iffy" job opportunities. His health is generally good, except for a few minor head issues and some minor skin condition(s) that keep him from really enjoying the outdoors. ( I've tried getting him on his bike, going fishing, offered up some lake/river/beach outings for this week and next week as well).

I've gently steered him toward hobbies to shift his focus and pondered aloud what would happen if he tried some adult education to possibly steer out of his current rut. Unfortunately many hobbies require some form of investment and he is not willing to take that step toward a diversion. He hasn't has much or any success with the same state agencies I took advantage of for employment. I hinted that sometimes other offices handle different cases with differing priorities.

He says I baffle him... I am very content with the way things are going in my life, and I sometimes tell him the best way to be content is simply... be content and accept the things that cannot change, change the things that can change and leave well alone those things that cannot. Shitting in your own s**t does not seem to do anything more than keep your s**t close by. Group therapy is also on his not to do list, some of you should know what I mean. Even bringing up that subject gets an hour or two of raving negativity. I suggested trying a different area where he wouldn't see any familiar faces and hear the same people saying the same things.

By my reckoning, not doing anything about getting some different results seems to perpetuate the misery he seems desperately trying to escape or avoid.

    Any ideas?

  • Trying to find a YouTube video?

A video that I really liked was linked in a forum that has went extinct. I forgot to save it as a favorite in my account.

I don't recall the name of it, but it may have had the word "rendezvous" in the title. The shooter was testing out a new camera mount on his car. It was shot fairly early in the morning, perhaps on a Sunday in Paris, France. The majority of the scenes are some extremely fast driving through the mostly empty city streets. I'm not sure, but it may be an older video, 1960's or 1970's vintage. Or perhaps the cars was a 60's or 70's model? I forget how or where the beginning is, but at the end of this insane run through the streets the driver the driver gets out of the car in a parking lot(?) to meet his lady.

I'm only looking for that specific video, so if there are any other contenders it will just get left open to vote.

  • New rats... Do they need some time to settle in?

I got my first rats today. They were fairly calm; one had been handled in preparation for being a pet and the other was just picked out when I said I wanted two. I played with them a bit just to get them to get comfortable with me. I got them home, gave them a quick "once over" to let them know they were here and put them in the new cage.

They are hiding out in the wooden box house at the bottom of the cage at the moment. I'm wondering if I should leave them alone for a while until they feel at home?

I've just been picking them up once in a while and hand feeding treats (just a couple, no need to get them hooked on the tasty stuff) and a bit of lab block.

Should I grab them out of the cage or let them come to me? I'd like for them to feel that the cage is safe but they need some handling to get really friendly. Should I be invading the cubby or just wait for their curiosity to get the better of them?

The bolder of the two who hasn't had much handling will come up to me, but the little one with the previous handling is still a bit shy. He's fine when he's being held, he just doesn't come out very quickly.

  • Lighting system?

I did a bad thing and didn't thoughly follow instructions for my lead battery. I left it charging for an extended period and it now will not take a charge. The lights and the light bar they mount on can be saved, but the battery is wasted. The lighting rig is Sigma Sports Mirage X series, the older one. Being that I like the modularity of this setup, I'd like to try to save this but am having trouble finding the replacement battery. Disassembling the battery case I have the core made by DiaMec, part# DM6-3.2 (6V3.2AH/20HR). Another spot has this information: "Constant Votage Charge"

    Cycle use: 7.20-7.50V

    Standby use: 6.75-6.90V

    Initial current: less than 0.96A

The physical size if the battery is 4 7/8'' wide, 2 1/2" high, including the quick connect terminals, and 1 1/2 deep.

I'm wanting to try to save this as either a primary rig or maybe a back up rig. It was $80 dollars when I bought it and I figure upgrading would run nearly 50-75 dollars.

  • Data Execution Prevention?

This somewhat useless feature has frozen my web browsing activity. Anything related to the internet (Yahoo!, internet explorer, IM / chat room and web based help sites, for example) will trip this into closing the program. I can log onto a game server, but crash upon attempting to play. Clicking the useless help and support clicky brings up the standard "everything but my problem" page list. Changing the DEP settings did nothing - essential programs or on all programs settings. Virus scans, spyware sweeps, system health checks, error reporting results and resolution had no effect on narrowing down the culprit. A restore point was made and restore attempts were made up to and beyond the first crash episode.

I can't figure out any reason for this thing to be so stubborn. The affected computer is not used for er... wanton purposes. Most programs are set to start manually instead of auto start. Did I miss some simple reset option or is it time to wipe the drive and start from scratch?

  • Hard wired desktop and wireless laptop aren't networking.?

Both units are Vista Premium OS. Desktop toolbar "Network" icon indicates "Currently connected to: Network".

Laptop "Network" icon indicates "Currently connected to: Network" as well when I turn off the WLAN switch. Turning on the WLAN switch connects me to "Network" and my wireless "Home###".

I have a wireless router to take advantage of the 802.11n capabilites of the laptop. My prior attempts to install and configure resulted in a new unsecure network, which got botched beyond belief by my attempts to secure it and still no box-to-box communication. Tech support from both the phone company and the router resulted in being able to log into and secure both networks, but still left me "un-networked". I took the router out of the physical setup but am not sure if I reconnect, will the whole mess start over again. I found a "Merge Networks" option in the Vista Network tabbery and wonder if this would get the two units talking or just make a huge electronic nightmare again.

  • Anyone have some experience with the Epiphone Goth Thunderbird IV bass guitar?

I've always wanted to try out playing a bass, and really dig the looks and sound of the thing. I saw the Goth http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?itemid=... and this amp http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?itemid=... just rocks with it. I think this rig has enough potential to hold onto for quite some time, and should have enough power to hold it's own against a 100W guitar combo. Any thoughts out there on this? It'll be a while before I can consider throwing down with my buddy, but I'm just curious if it would be enough amp to be social with his 50W to 100W Marshall and Crate rigs.

  • Movie quote. Which movie?

Quote is: "I'm thinking of something blue. Something bluuuuue(!) (.) (?)"

Need a quick answer and some sort of details as proof. Not a real big movie buff, so I may not even be aware of the film in question. Will award points as soon as possible.

  • Where can I get this song?

"Maybe I'm Amazed". It's off the Wings Over America album, circa 1976. I believe it is the live version played most often on the radio. It does not seem available as a digital download - for copyright reasons, I assume. Apparently, it needs to be physically purchased. Is there a remastered CD under a new name? I'm looking for the 5:20 version, and there seems to be no current releases with that time stamp. It must be somewhere, where do radio stations get their copies?

  • Are there any Runescape help websites?

Is this a boxed game? Or a download?

There seem to be a lot of players that come to ask questions.

Some want accounts, some want money, some want accounts and money.

Are there not forums in which to do this?

Or are account / money questions are not looked upon favorably there?

I have not checked the game site I use for Runescape, and do not recall the game on the options.

  • I think this question is for the "Roadies". On some bikes I see on rooftop carriers -?

there is this odd stretchy thing covering the front end of the bike. It looks a bit like something you would see in a lingerie drawer. I can't figure out what the purpose of it is. Is it some sort of undergarment that dries best on a pair of handlebars? It can't be for lessening wind resistance, can it? You've just increased the surface area of the bike, and that wouldn't seem to compute. Or, perhaps the extra surface would add stability to the carrier, keeping any high-speed wobble to a minimum.

If it is a token of a ladie's affection, I'm gonna have to trade in my mountain bike. :)

  • What is the collective term for turkeys?

There are colonies of ants, herds of cattle and clutters of cats, ect. I have always referred to them as a "Congress" of turkeys. Anyone know the term? Is it a flock or something common like that?

  • If everybody made the same wage, would there be any reason to excel?

Would there be any reason to do well in school, behave yourself in public, (for example, gangs, vandalism, stealing, or violent behaviors ) or abuse drugs or alcohol if you knew that you were going to get paid the same as someone who was fairly, um, for the lack of a better word, righteous? Indeed, if you were caught doing something, you would end up in jail or prison, but when you got out, you have just as good a chance at a job as the next guy. My opinion is that if you are a decent citizen, you should enjoy the preferential scale in pay. You put in the time, made the sacrifices to stay out of trouble and the reward should be a better life than the the slacker.
