  • On a psych unit, can you call a patient by their full name?

Especially if you have two people with the same name? Like John B and John S, versus John Brown and John Smith. And I mean where the other patients can hear it. What about with kids? A reference to HIPAA would be great, all I could find was using the least amount of identifiers, but if the first names are the same, is it okay to use the last name too...

  • Is it okay for one adult to tease another adult in front of a child?

I work at a children's mental health unit. As adults, I have always thought playful teasing was okay. So I was teasing a co-worker wearing boots and a peasant shirt that she kind of looked like a pirate, while a 11 year old child was sitting nearby. She turned to me and told me that I needed to stop, since these kids would think teasing was okay. I did, but I was surprised. Adults tease each other all the time, with or without children around. And I do this thinking that a lot of these kids are teased because of their disorders, and it would be beneficial to model mature ways of dealing with it.

I can understand her point of view. Perhaps I am basing this too much into my life, not putting into consideration that these children have more fragile environments and are more sensitive.

Any research out there? Experiences? I'd appreciate it for my future interactions as a mental health professional.

  • Is it legal to use religion as part of a treatment plan at a psychiatric hospital?

I work in a psych hospital on a children's unit. Recently, a staff member asked the patients to write in their journal about what they would write if they could write a letter to God.

I personally thought this was wrong, because it implies to these children with already fragile minds that it is necessary to believe in god to have normal mental health. But I'm having a hard time finding and legal websites that discuss this. Religion should be separate from direct treatment.

If anyone can help me find anything on an official apa website or something legal, I would appreciate it. I plan to take this to my manager.

  • Do atheist groups conflict with each other?

First of all, I totally understand the sarcasm, and I think it's entertaining and a great way to give a metaphor of religion in general. I'm a pantheist, and so a lot of my beliefs align with atheistic beliefs...so I'm not bashing.

But my question is are there 'disagreements' between 'followers' of pastafarianism, the Church of Google, Invisible Pink Unicorn, etc? Would someone claim FSM superior to the Invisible Pink Unicorn?

In my opinion, that would sound silly since the overall message is the same, but then, I personally don't know people who claim themselves as one of these groups.

  • How much champagne for toast?

I just got married on Sunday, and the place we had the reception at was responsible for determining how much of our cider for the toasts. When it was actually poured out, there was maybe an ounce of cider in each flute. Is that normal? I barely took a sip for each toast, and my husband ran out after the third toast.

Also, is it normal for the waitstaff to eat your cake? They didn't save any for us to take home.

And what about food...is it common that if you (as bride and groom) leave the table for photos or greeting people, the waitstaff will take away your food and drink, even if it's obviously barely been touched?

Thanks, I just need to know if these are things I should warn other couples who use the revenue.

  • How long does it take to get highlights in my hair?

My hair is sort of long (about 3" below my shoulder), isn't very thick, and is smooth (a little wavy, mostly straight). I'm going to the salon for the first time for highlights today, and I don't know how long to expect to be there!

Will it take more than one hour?

Also, how much should I tip?

  • Do I invite ceremony musician to the reception?

Am I supposed to have the ceremony musician as a guest at our wedding? Do I tip him?

I figure the photographer is expected to eat at your reception, but do you tip them as well as feed them?

Basically, I need to know who you tip and who you invite to the reception.

  • Ears clogged up 5 days after scuba diving?

I went on an open water dive last Saturday, and I really had some very severe ear pain. I probably should have gotten out of the water when it started hurting, but I didn't (yes, I can be stupid sometimes).

Anyway, it was in intense pain for the rest of the day, but by that night the pain subsided. Now it's Thursday, and my ears feel like it's still clogged up. I have tried blowing with my nostrils closed, but all it does is make a squeak sound that doesn't relieve anything. I can hear fine, and I have no pain, but it's annoying and it does muffle sound a tad bit and just feels funny. I have taken sinus medications as well, still doesn't do anything. Haven't tried swimmer's drops yet, and before I go out to buy some, is there something else I could do?

  • Where can I be chrysanthemums online?

I just need the flower, not the stem, nor an arrangement. I don't mind if it comes with the stem, I just want something not arranged, since I'll be doing my own arrangement with it for our wedding ceremony.

Is there a place online where I can just by the flowers (with or without stem)?

  • How's our dinner menu look?

We're getting married next month, decided on our menu: something fall-ish and Italian. We had my FMIL choose the food. What do you think? Make your mouth water just thinking about it??

I'm kidding, just want to make sure it sounds good. It's for about 60-70 people. We don't plan on changing the menu at this point but I just want to hear a general opinion.

    Appetizers

Cheese tray (cheddar, gorgonzola, smoked Gouda, brie)

    Seasonal fruit tray

    Sides

    Minestrone soup

Toasted barley salad (so much more delicious than it sounds)

    Breadsticks

    Main course

    Pumpkin-Apple Risotto

    Spinach & Cheese Stuffed Shells

    Dessert

Wedding Cake: Amaretto with Apricot filling

  • How long was the dancing in your wedding reception?

I have about 2 hours put together so far (we're going with the iPod DJ route), and I don't know how much time I should fill for dancing. We have about 3 hours allotted for it, should we fill it up? Would it be okay to just repeat the music again?

    Thanks.

  • How to get my budgies to not mate?

We have three budgies, two of them are adults, one male and one female. We figured we could prevent any offspring by not providing a nesting box or any safe place to lay eggs, but I just saw them...well, you know. I startled them to stop, but there are times during the day no one is home!

All the things I can find online say "take away the nesting box", but we don't have one to begin with. I don't want to deal with baby birds, nor do I want to have to destroy the eggs, if eggs happen to be laid.

    Help!

  • Is Batman (Christian Bale) a vegetarian??

I heard that he loves animals, so I'm wondering if he's a bulked up vegetarian. And if he is, what kind is he? Like vegan or lacto-ovo?

  • Where can I get a tree stump in San Antonio, TX?

I need just a piece of tree stump, nothing huge or anything. I tried calling around some landscaping places, some nurseries. Anyplace else? Anyone want to get rid of theirs if they live in San Antonio or College Station?
