i am married to a wonderful woman and have two alarmingly smart and cute kids (boy - 2 years, girl 6 1/2 months). I am an avid reader. I enjoy sci-fi/fantasy the most. I also am in the process of working on several novels..(military/science fiction, adventure, fantasy, fiction). Other interests include my family, movies, tv, outdoors, archaeology of course.

  • Dryer won't turn off...help!?

I have a GE electric dryer purchased in 2006. Recently, I opened it during the normal (medium heat, regular cycle where it shuts off when the clothes are dry) to remove something and it didn't turn back on. I could tell it was rather hot inside it so I left the door open to cool. When I closed it to turn it back on, I didn't have to turn it back on - it came on by itself. I went away for the weekend and, upon returning, it was still doing the same thing.

Anyone have any idea? I don't want to have to afford a new dryer!!

  • My daughter has chronic ear infections.....can you help?

My daughter, who's almost 2, is on her second set of ear tubes. She's had about 15 ear infections in her short life. Her right ear seems to be problematic. In March of this year, she was bleeding from her ear. This was 6 weeks after her first set of tubes. She had another set of tubes put in on October 20th. This week, we find ourselves with another ear infection but this time, lots of fluid draining. She's on meds for it and has an appt with the ENT on Thursday.

    There's my question.

If you or anyone you know has experienced something similar, was any hearing loss experienced? If so, how severe or mild was the loss? What was done to fix it?

I'm really concerned that my precious little girl will have permanent damage to her ears.

    Thanks so much-

  • Ok, so is it me or is music going downhill (by which i mean are the airwaves polluted by the talentless)?

I want opinions as the state of music...I'm really not into the "pop" crud that is polluting the airwaves, and the definition of "pop" changes everyday.. So four part question.....What is your definition of "pop" music? What are some "pop" bands? Is music going "down hill"? What do you listen too (so that i can judge how seriously to take your answer)?

  • Of those who have read the Silmarillon, LOTR, and the Hobbit, what age would you have lived in?

the ages before the sun - only the Elves around, and Dwarves towards the end, Melkor/Morgoth and orcs..and such

the first age of the sun - Elves and Dwarves, Morgoth/Sauron and orcs, men at the end (Edain, easterlings, etc..)

the second age of the sun-Elves,Dwarves, Men (Numenor) and easterlings, etc.. Sauron and orcs, perhaps hobbits in the middle or end

The third age of the sun - Elves, Dwarves, Men, Hobbits,--War of the Ring (at the end) versus Sauron and Orcs and Easterlings.

The fourth age of the sun- Dominion of Men, rise of the renewed kingdoms of men (Gondor and Arnor) under Aragorn.

Personally i would have lived with the first fathers of the faithful (edain - elf-friends) during the end of the first age beginning of the second age...to live among some of the Greatest elves of Middle Earth.

  • Name your favorite book(s), the author(s), and why?

Should there be more than one..go for it..i don't care how many just gives me a reading list..lol.

Ok...lets see the Hobbit, LOTR Trillogy, The Silmarillion, by Tolkien...love the world he created and can get lost in it.

Anything by Dennis L. McKiernan...haven't read any of the new stuff..but i like his stuff for the same reason as i like Tolkien's work.

Those are the two main authors i like, it would take awhile to name every book/author. I like Bradbury, Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Salvatore. Before you think i just like sci-fi/fantasy...I also like Shakespeare, Alexander Dumas, and others. I just happen to enjoy the escapism of sci-fi/fantasy.

  • Ok now what is your favorite band?

By band I mean people who play instruments on stage and sing. A boy or girl GROUP sings and dances and do not play instruments on stage and therefore do not count.

Tirade over. The Beatles are my number 1 favorite band. If you want to give me a reason feel free. Any time period from big band swing to modern rock, does not matter.

Mine is Louis Armstrong "What a Wonderful World". A great mellow, sentimental song. Always relaxes me.
