Is this chemistry question impossible?
This is one of my homework questions. How can you do it...
A flask in a sealed room that is devoid of oxygen contains 16.05 g of magnesium silicide. An acid HA, where A is a halogen, is added, and a double-replacement reaction occurs. When the chemical equation is balanced with simplest whole numbers, the coefficient on magnesium silicide is one. One of the products is a solid, but the other is a gas that escapes from the flask. The mass of the contents of the flask is measured to be 39.85 g. Assuming that the reaction went to completion (that is, neither reactant occurred in excess), what is the name of the acid?
1 AnswerChemistry7 years agoIsn't charity pointless?
First, let me clarify. I am in complete support of funding organizations that do research into finding cures for diseases. I also support things like scholarship funds -- Helping those who have potential succeed.
But, I do not understand giving money to struggling families in foreign countries (in addition to pet shelters, etc.) Think about it...
1) You are supporting people who will never achieve anything in their lives, as they will simply never have enough to even break out of poverty.
2) Those who live like in such poverty certainly have miserable lives. Charity basically prolongs their misery, if you think about it.
4 AnswersCommunity Service7 years agoDo atheists acknowledge that the thoery of evolution has faults as well?
There are numerous fossil record gaps and few to none "transition" species have been documented. Darwin himself saw several problems with his own hypotheses, such as the complexity and diversity of the organs and systems of species.
I don't understand why atheists always have this arrogance about them. It us as if they disregard the fact that large-scale evolution is very hypothetical and has only vague evidence.
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality7 years agoDoes anyone realize how wrong it is to rank countries based on education?
You may think China, India, etc. have a much better educational system and brighter students... BUT there is a major problem with how the statistics are gathered. In China, a 10 year old is already learning trigonometry and even basic calculus, while a student of the same age in the USA is in Algebra I at best. Given a test based only on concepts, the China student will obviously perform better. I ask you, does that make him smarter? What about outside activities and social life? The country's teenagers have school days that literally last well into night. Many schools in China forbid dating until university.

I need a picture that represents the word bawdy that isn't crude. Any ideas? It can be a metaphorical reference to it.
2 AnswersDrawing & Illustration7 years agoWhat's with the stereotypical attitide towards republicans and liberals?
Most people have views that coincide with both parties or political ideologies. Why do so many blindly assume that one party must be wholly incorrect? Conservatives and democrats in reality have both assets and flaws.
10 AnswersPolitics7 years agoHow Many Golfers do You Know Like This?
I play golf on my high school team and have a handicap of 4. In our team matches nearly every kid I play against complains about how they are having a terrible day when they shoot a 73. Even worse are the kids who clearly can't play golf for their life, yet say tell me that they have a +2 handicap. For those of you who know what I am talking about, how do you deal with liars like this?
2 AnswersGolf7 years agoDepression is a made up disorder?
Getting upset and struggling in life is normal. However, now we just prescribe these long-term drugs to supposed sufferers of the illness. I think depression is almost entirely a false mental disorder. It is more just going through natural phases of life.

Can you find the error?
Inflammable wood is commonly used nowadays because it is heat-resistant and will not catch fire resulting from extreme heat or sparks.
2 AnswersWords & Wordplay8 years agoHow can some people believe that America has averted disaster?
Aren't we just getting closer to it? We are trillions in debt and have a weak economy that lacks growth. The unemployment rate is high and money is being wasted on welfare programs and huge pensions. Poor healthcare policies and higher taxes on the upper class detour job creation and growth. The government is doing too much to try to help the lower class. Most economist are certain that we are headed in the direction of Europe.
3 AnswersGovernment9 years agoShould U.S. citizen's right to vote be restricted?
It's a strange question, but many U.S. citizens are simply not educated enough about politics to actually vote properly. A good example is the Latino and Mexican community. Most of them base their vote on what they get, not on what the country needs. They have no idea that Obama kills small businesses, unless, of course, they run a small business (the 27% voting Romney), which is rare. I know that the Constitution give citizens the right to vote, but if the citizen's vote actually ruins the Nation, what do we do?
12 AnswersCivic Participation9 years agoWhy do people deny that most people will never be as smart or talented as others?
I've always been one of the smartest people in my grade. I don't like being arrogant, but most people I know, no matter how hard they were to try, could ever become as smart as I am; in fact they'll always be below the average population. And with sports, some people are just born better. Why do people constantly deny this? It's made to sound like "you can do anything if you set your mind to it." That is wrong. Person A could spend countless hours practicing an instrument, but will never be as talented as Person B, who spends very little time practicing.

1 AnswerHomework Help1 decade agoWhy is Justin Bieber such a big deal?
His voice is flat and actually very mediocre and sounds like a girl, not a boy. He isn't very good looking. How did he become popular at all, even though he isn't very good at singing? Many boys his age look and sing better than him.
