Consider the following headlines:?
"'Dancing with the Stars' Bests World Series' Television Ratings"
and
"Democrats Win Majority in Both House and Senate"
Does anyone else see a correlation?
7 AnswersElections1 decade agoWhat is up with Yahoo's removing Answers content - obviously without checking the merit of the complaint?
OK - So I've been using this site for a couple of months, now. I've answered a few hundred questions and have a not-too-shabby record on "Best Answers."
Yesterday, out of the blue, I received a warning and had an answer deleted for "threatening bodily harm." I, of course, did no such thing, but some goober who disagreed with something I said obviously reported me for it (don't they call this 'bearing false witness?'). Now that I think of it, maybe they didn't like being referred to as a "goober."
Why do I find this so maddening? I, of course, sent an appeal e-mail to the abuse fairy, but the automated "we'll look into it when we find the time" response I received (a day later) doesn't satisfy my need for righteous retribution.
The person who reported this answer for abuse was quite clearly in violation of the "You may not report abuse for posts that you personally disagree with" guideline. What email daemon in the sky is going to slap this anonymous person's wrist?
5 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoIs anyone else annoyed when answerers initially enter a quick "I don't know," then edit their answer and ...
give the answer that someone below them has done the work to research? Are they simply trying not to look stupid, or are they hoping the asker will not have noticed their misrepresentation and will give them "best answer?" (which often happens) Why does this behaviour irritate me so? (the last part is rhetorical, I'll admit)
6 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoWho here believes US law specifies separation of church and state?
I was disappointed today to read the (to me, ignorant) cacophony from answerers on another question invoking the constitution and its "law of separation of church and state." I submit that there is no, nor has there ever been, such law.
The first amendment to the constitution does state that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof". A US Judge in Missouri has today declared unconstitutional and "scolded" a school board for allowing an outside group (the Gideons) to distribute bibles to public schoolchildren, in violation of the amendment stated above.
How can this constitutional amendment have been violated when congress has made no law? I'm sure nobody in congress was even aware of the actions (or, technically, inaction) of this school board before the case was brought by the ACLU.
Anyway, I'm not looking for a lot of back-and-forth name-calling here ... I'd be interested in seeing some intelligent discourse.
