Rabies after awakening to find a bat in your room?
A few nights ago we woke up to find our cat playing with a live bat in our room. After taking the cat to the vet we were informed that we might be at risk of contracting rabies since we were asleep and the bat could have bitten us without our knowledge. Has anyone had a similar experience? Did you get the rabies vaccine? The state department of health is reccomending we be vaccinated.
9 AnswersOther - Diseases1 decade agoAdvice for a temp to hire?
I have been working in a "temp to hire" position for almost a year (will be a year in mid-May). I get lots of praise from the people I work with and know that I do a good job. I am having a lot of anxiety however because I have no paid sick time or vacation and feel that after one year if they truly think i am doing a good job I deserve to be hired and start getting some benefits. Do you think taht I should start looking elsewhere? Anyone else been in a similar situation? Is there a way to get my boss to finally hire me?
3 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment1 decade agoWhat to plant beneath lilacs?
I live in Minnesota and have a huge lilac hedge in the backyeard. Problem is that nothing is growing underneath the bushes so it looks really barren and ugly. What can I plant beneath these plants and when do I plant? Need something fairly easy as I have no gardening experience. Also my yard is already pretty much full of hosta so I would prefer something else.
6 AnswersGarden & Landscape1 decade agoTrip ideas?
I am trying to plan a really special vacation for myself and my boyfriend after he gets home from an extended business trip. Anyone have any really cool ideas? We are in the US and our budget is probably around $5000. Would prefer some place warm but open to anything. We have travelled pretty extensively in Europe so probably not there. He is currently in India so I dont think that he will want to make that trip again. Thanks!
4 AnswersOther - Destinations1 decade agoDo I need to buy a receiver for my TV?
I just ordered a Panasonic TH-50PZ750U plasma TV. The TV comes with 4 speakers which I assume are not connected to the TV. Is there anyway to connect my cable and a DVD player to the TV and get sound from the speakers with out buying a receiver? I plan on using HDMI cables and from what I have read it is hard to find a reasonably priced receiver that fully supports HDMI technology (audio and video switching etc...). While my TV has plenty of HDMI ports (3) to set up the cable and DVD player. I would rather not buy a receiver if I don’t have to so does anyone know if I need to? And if I don’t how would I set up my system?
On a side note is it true that all HDMI cables are the same; the really cheap ones work just as good as the really expensive ones?
2 AnswersHome Theater1 decade agoWhat reciever should I get for my HD TV.?
I recently purchased a HDTV and need a receiver to go with it. Right now I have a tivo and also a DVD player that I need to run through the receiver. I want to use the HDMI cables for my whole system and need a receiver that can support that. I don’t care as much about the audio as I do the video because I don’t have a very large room for the system. I have been doing some research and can’t seem to make sense of what I really need in a receiver and what I don’t.
For example is a receiver that can up scale video to 1080p really worth the extra cost?
Are all HMDI inputs on new recievers 1.3 quality with switching ability for both audio and video?
Can anybody give me advice on what receivers might work well for me and about what the cost of them would be?
3 AnswersHome Theater1 decade agoDo you need multiple HDMI inputs on a TV?
Do you need to use multiple HDMI inputs on a TV if you have a receiver with multiple HDMI inputs? Is it possible to run everything (dvd palyer, tivo, videogame systems etc...) into the HDMI inputs on the receiver and then have one cable from the receiver to the TV? Will this set up work?
6 AnswersHome Theater1 decade agoHelp identifying flag set? found in basement of new home?
Just wondering if anyone can help identify what I believe to be some sort of flag set that I found cleaning out the basement of our house. The set was left by the previous owner and consists of maybe 7 or 8 red and white flags (I think they are flags but I could be wrong) they are about 8 x 10 inches in size and were also found with wood flag pole type objects. I think that they may have been in a burlap type sack labeled Army Flag set, but I am not sure as I just found the sack next to the flags. Have tried googling Army Flag and come up with nothing. So does any one have any idea what these could be and if they are worth keeping, or if I should just toss? Thanks!

3 AnswersChristmas1 decade agoDiscolored blinds?
I am wondering if anyone has a solution to this problem. I recently took down all of the blinds in a new home and washed in the bathtub with vinegar. As I have many many times before with similar blinds in different homes. However, when these dried they got all spotty and discolored. I would like to avoid buying new blinds for awhile so please dont suggest that as a solution.
2 AnswersCleaning & Laundry1 decade agoHuge scratch in newly refinished hardwood! Help!?
We just had our old beautiful oak hardwood floors resanded and poly-ed. Today we moved a couch into the room and made a huge scratch. The scratch seems to be only on the surface and not actually in the wood (the couch did have floor protectors on the feet). Any advice to fix? We are so bummed out because we just paid a pretty nice sum to have these fixed. Thanks in advance for your help.
3 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoDon't have all of the storm windows in new house?
We just purchased a home and discovered over the weekend that we do not have all of the storm windows and the ones that we do have do not fit. We feel upset that we weren't aware of this before purchasing the house. It was not disclosed in the truth in housing report. Any ideas on how to move forward or is this something that we just have to live with? We are hoping that we can get some money back as now we will have to replace the windows much sooner than we planned.
