My friend received 1099s in 2006 for freelance writing, but never officially registered or incorporated herself. Is she automatically considered a sole proprietor? Or does she need to fill out other forms to register the business before being able to claim the 1099s on schedule C?

This actually happened to me recently and I didn't know what to do. What would you do?

I've only met one other person that has this problem, and another whose daughter has it. Who else hates to touch that cotton? It gives me the shivers just thinking about it.

The piece is a Buddha head that was originally mounted on a simple black cube base. The base was broken. (Sculpture is OK, though.) Where can I go in the city to have it remounted on a new base? Quality is more important than price here.

My landlady is reluctant to pay for this, even though the law is very clear that it's her responsibility. (But the fines for violators are too low to motivate her.) I'm hoping she'll be more willing if she knows she can recoup her costs by filing an insurance claim. Any ideas on other ways she can cover her costs (gov't programs, etc.) are much appreciated. At this point taking her to court is not an option I'm willing to consider. Thanks!

He appears in the early part of the Republic and is mentioned indirectly and by name in the Phaedrus. Was he a real historical figure or contemporary of Socrates and/or Plato? Do we have any of his work or any other documentation on him today?
