  • When on an IFR flight plan, do you have to contact ATC to change to the appropriate MEA?

Lets say you are heading east on a heading of 090 and the MEA for the airway you are on is 5000ft. Your next leg will be a heading of 350, and the MEA is 8000 ft. As the FAR's state, after you cross the navaid, you should then begin your climb to the next MEA. The question is tho, is do you just climb to that MEA without calling ATC or do you have to "request" that altitude from ATC.

Also, another quick question along the similar lines. If you were on an easterly heading for your initial departure leg, and your next leg will be on a northwestern heading, would you file an altitude appropriate for 0-179 or 180-359? I have always just filed the initial legs appropriate altitude for the track. Also, similar to the first question, would you call ATC when you need to change your altitude due to your heading or do you just do it?

    Thanks much!

  • How to know what name to call on the MULTI/UNICOM?

Well I have always been quite curious about this, and as a private pilot I feel I should know this. How do I know what to call the airport when on the CTAF? Sure, many fields are obvious, the town is called Parowan, and the airport is named Parowan, so obviously its "Parowan Traffic". BUT, how about a field such as Fine Meml, or H.A Clark Meml Field? I know that Fine is called "Kaiser Traffic", but would Clark Meml be said as is or would it be "Williams Traffic"? Im starting to think that although the name of the airport may be one thing, you go by the city/town name that where the airport is located. Thanks in advance!

  • Is PCIe X16 2.0 Compatible with the Intel 945GC Chipset?

So i'm looking to buy a new graphics card while keeping my motherboard that has only a PCIe X16 slot. I know 2.0 is backwards compatible, but I am reading that it may only be backwards compatible to motherboards with an X38 Intel Chipset and beyond.

I was just wondering what you guys think, and if anyone here has a 945GC correctly working with a 2.0 card. They say it should work with and PCIe X16 slot, but I just want to make sure. Thanks!

  • Nvidia GeForce 7600 Issues?

So for as long as I remember, since I have owned this card, while I have a 3D application(Games) open and I alt-tab out, either my computer may freeze completely or theres anomalies with other programs, such as java. I did some fix for java so nvidia doesnt screw up the java apps and so its actually readable, but I still have tons of problems with non-java apps. I have supplied a screenshot to what it does to things while I have a game running and another application that has some sort of 3D on it. I have updated the drivers with newest ones as I do whenever they come out and still no joy. Im computer literate, so no dumbed down answers... Thanks

How do I know, departing a non towered airport, which frequency to call on for CTR? Such as KCDC, on the charts, it says Los Angeles Center, 124.20, but CDC is in SLC CTR. I cant find anywhere on charts or the Aiport/Facility Directory on which frequencies to use for CTR. Thanks!

  • Private Pilots License Ground School Home Study Program?

I am about to start flight training in June, and I need to of course take ground school, which where I am going does not offer. I need to know exactly what is required in a home study program and how much it should cost. I know King Schools offers one, but its $600 bucks, and I know that there are other cheaper ones somewhere else. Thanks a lot!

  • '05 Grand Am Starting Problem?

Well, its my first car. 47K miles, bought it used. Was a good car the first month or so, but then it had troubles with starting. My auto-mechanics teacher thinks its my fuel pump, but lets see what you guys think.

Heres the situation. The car sometimes starts perfectly fine, turn the key to start, right on perfectly. Other times, I turn it to start, and it goes for a few seconds and never turns over. And all the lights go out in the car(gauges and stuff), and it just seems really week. Other times, I turn it to start, and its not turning over, so I go back to on, and it continues to try to start, sometimes even 2-4 seconds after its been switched back to "on"!

Now, my teacher gave me advice to switch the car to "on", for about 10 seconds or so, then start it, and see if it helps, that way you see if the fuel pump is getting pressure. Well, I guess it seems to start somewhat better, but it still doesnt start normal sometimes. Also, a few times, I have started it, and it never turns over, then it seems to die for a half second, then it makes a screeching noise, then it continues to try to start, then finally does.

Please, let me know what my problem is and how much it would cost to repair at a shop. Thanks!!

  • How do airlines approach at airports?

Specifically, if there is ILS, but the weather is perfectly clear outside, do they use ILS or do they use LOC, or just go VIS, if they go VIS though, does ATC tell them when to descend properly or do the pilots just look at an ILS APP chart and follow that, but technically do it visually.

  • How to get emails back from Outlook Express?

Well, at school, my home email is blocked(POP3). So, I decided that I would set up Outlook at school to read my mail. Worked well, and it put all my emails into Outlook. So, I get off the computer, go home, get on my email, and all my inbox is gone... So, I set up Outlook on my computer, and it only shows the 2 emails that I had gotten since I had last checked the emails at school. Is there any way I can get those emails back if they are not even showing up in Outlook? And the computers at school have deep freeze, so it deletes all settings after restart. Thanks.

  • VFR Flight Planning ?

Ok, lets say I am filing a flight plan for VFR (yes I know its not required). And, I choose to put a route in the flight plan. Does this mean that I HAVE to go over the points of my route like IFR or is it ok if I just go near the points during my flight.

  • I never feel truly happy, don't seem to feel true emotions?

Well, im 16, and ever since I had an argument with my parents last year, I just havent felt the same. I have gone through a divorce in my life and live with my dad who I am fine with but my step-mom can be annoying and both are perfectionists.

I have great friends that I used to be able to hang out with and laugh at almost every thing they would say. Now, they say stuff, and I just "pretend" laugh and am not really enthused and am not feeling that happy.

My life is great though, I dont do drugs, no alcohol, good parents, have a job, car, phone, all this neat stuff. Yet, I just never feel really happy. I have been denying that it was myself for awhile, blaming it on problems with other things, but my friends have brought it up that I have changed and they think I am depressed. I now realize what I have fully been like and that I need to take action against it.

The other day I did something that I truly love, yet, I only had a few smiles and they were not very deep. I left, I felt somewhat happy inside, but it wasnt enthusiastic happiness. I just want to be like I used to, hyper, always joking around, and just being happy everywhere. I do try and do things with my family, I dont just stay in my room all day, but I just cant feel really happy about anything. Please, help me find some way of how to revive my old self.

  • Determining airport traffic pattern?

Well, Im a student pilot. I am a member of AOPA. I was wondering how to determine if an airports traffic pattern is left or right. I know left is the most common, but where does it state that anywhere? My home airport is left and right. The only thing I have found that gives you the information is SkyVector, such as this link - http://skyvector.com/airport/CDC/Cedar-City-Region... I know that my airport directory and charts tell you what the traffic pattern altitude is, but how am I supposed to know if its left or right? Thanks!

  • New CPU and BIOS Issue

Well, I just switched out my old 2.80GHz Pentium 4 for a 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo E7200. I have a Biostar 945GC Micro 775 motherboard. It recognizes my CPU as an E7200, but its not running it at its full speed. It shows that it should be running at its normal 2.53GHz, but its only running it at 1.59GHz(266 x 6.0). Why is it not allowing it to have the right amount of multipliers? It should be running at 266MHz x 9.5. Any clue as to what I should do as in my BIOS it will not let me change the CPU Clock. Thanks.

  • Weird eye problem?

Well here it goes. The other morning I woke up and saw a little black line through my left eyeball. I figured something was just on my eye. So I get out of bed, wipe my eyes, look for anything, and theres NOTHING on my eye. So I figure if I go into the shower and let the water hit my eye, it might get rid of it. Nope. Basically, what it looks like, is a black line, like a worm. Honestly, it looks like a black, 2D sperm... So I move my eye, it follows, it even seems to kind of change positions whenever I move my eye sometimes. Does anybody have ANY clue what it could be? Its kinda worrying me...

Im 16 and im OBSESSED with aviation. Its my life. I live by the airport (KCDC) and they have a school called the National Pilot Academy. I have been planning on going there for a long time. Does anybody know if it would be a good school or if somewhere else would be better? Im looking to get my PPL and ATP and hopefully fly for Southwest, fly cargo, or fly air tankers for fires. Speaking of flying air tankers, how many hours do you need to fly the air tankers and how much experience do you need? Thanks!!

  • RCA Multiple Audio Adapter?

I have about 5 different RCA Audio pairs(red and white cables) that I plug into my stereo for surround sound. Only thing is, my stereo can only hold one pair at a time. I am looking for some sort of a box that you can put all the pairs into, and the box cable go into the stereo, that way I dont have to keep on plugging in and unplugging cables every time I use audio from something different. I know these exist, but I cant find any. It has buttons on the front that you press to listen to either Satellite, game system, dvd, etc.
