  • Calling a stepdad, dad?

my mom really wants me to call my step-dad dad, but i really don't want too. i mean my mom and and him have been together since i was 5 and they got married when i was 12, so from the time i was 5 i have been calling him by his name. they have been married for almost 5 years now and she wants me to call him dad. i feel like she only wants me to call him dad because they are married. i mean i have considered him my dad since i was 5 and my other siblings don't call him dad and his children don't call my mom, mom. i don't want her to think that i don't want to call him dad because i don't consider him my dad, i just feel like she wants me to call him dad for him, her and the fact that they are married now.

  • What scenes from Jane Eyre and Great Expectations should I include in a thematic essay on social class?

For Great Expectations I am going to use the scene where Estella tells Pip he has course hands and thick boots. I am also going to include how the lower class seems to have more inner worth than the upper class (Drummle and Magwitch).

For Jane Eyre I am going to use the scene where Jane says, “Do you think, because I am poor, obscure, plain, and little, I am soulless and heartless? You think wrong!—I have as much soul as you—and full as much heart! And if God had gifted me with some beauty and much wealth, I should have made it as hard for you to leave me, as it is now for me to leave you.”

    Any other suggestions?

  • Meaning of Soybeans by Thomas Alan Orr?

The October air was warm and musky, blowing

Over brown fields, heavy with the fragrance

Of freshly combined beans, the breath of harvest.

He was pulling a truckload onto the scales

At the elevator near the rail siding north of town

When a big Cadillac drove up. A man stepped out,

Wearing a three-piece suit and a gold pinky ring.

The man said he had just invested a hundred grand

In soybeans and wanted to see what they looked like.

The farmer stared at the man and was quiet, reaching

For the tobacco in the rear pocket of his jeans,

Where he wore his only ring, a threadbare circle rubbed

By working cans of dip and long hours on the backside

Of a hundred acre run. He scooped up a handful

Of small white beans, the pearls of the prairie, saying:

Soybeans look like a foot of water on the field in April

    When you're ready to plant and can't get in;

Like three kids at the kitchen table

Eating macaroni and cheese five nights in a row,

Or like a broken part on the combine

  • Introductory paragraph?

Is this an okay intorductory paragraph, for an essay about the loss of innocence?

Losing one's innocence evokes change and a different view on one's life. In The Catcher in The Rye, by J.D. Salinger and Balzac and The Little Chinese Seamstress, by Dai Sijie, the main characters lose their childhood innocence. Holden Caulfield, from The Catcher in The Rye, takes us through his loss of innocence over the course of a long weekend. Luo and the narrator, from Balzac and The Little Chinese Seamstress, lose their innocence during the re-education in China in the late nineteen sixties to the early nineteen seventies. Both books show that the loss of innocence comes with experience, not age.

  • What do these lines from the Catcher in the Rye mean?

"Don't ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody."

I think it means not to let anyone get to close because then the relationship changes and it never goes back to how it was before. But I don't know what the missing everybody part means.

  • This is a really stupid question (about math)?

When you have similar triangles and you use HLLS are the legs the means? like H/L=L/S. And what about SAAS is it the same thing S/A=S/A. Like what if they give you the measurement of the leg, segment, altitude and hypotenuse which one would you use? and when do you H(A)=L(L) (hypotenuse times altitude equals leg times leg). If you could explain this it would be great

  • Research paper??

Okay so in English we had to research a word. My word is/was cherish. I am not sure how to do the work cited page though for a dictionary citation is it:

"Cherish." Webster's II New Riverside University Dictionary. Boston, MA 02108: The Riverside Company, 1988.

    or

Webster's II New Riverside University Dictionary. Boston, MA 02108: The Riverside Company, 1988.

I know the second line has to be indented and the title of the dictionary has to be underlined
