  • My dog won't stop licking a sore...?

My rottweiler/german shepherd has a sore between her toes (had a touch of frostbite....has seen the vet and gotten antibiotics since it was near active infection and steroids for pain).

It had started to get better, but now she is licking it a lot again. We watch her as much as we can and usually put a boot on her when we are not at home, but she still gets at it from time to time. Is there anything we can put on it that tastes bad (that won't make it hurt worse and make her want to lick)...but will still let it heal? We don't have a collar that fits her right now.....could buy one but thought I'd ask here for other ideas first.

    thanks.

  • I feel like I'm choking on my tonsils...?

I feel like I'm choking on my tonsils...and they're not even that large!

About a month ago I had a really sore throat, just on one side of my throat. I went in and was checked for strep and mono....both came back negative. The doctor ended up giving me antibiotics for tonsillitis ( I don't recall EVER having tonsillitis before and I'm 34 years old). She said my throat was "as red as beets" but that my tonsils were not inflamed. (However, I did tell her that I've always had small tonsils. I think if you can see them at all, they are larger than normal!).

Well...the pain mostly went away. Now, my throat is fine MOST of the time. From time to time however, the back and sides of my throat hurt (sharp pain) and sometimes I swear I feel like I'm choking! I ASSUME I'm choking on my tonsils. I can still see them (they are in no way blocking my throat however....they are both way off to the sides of my throat, but I can just see them...which as I said, I take to mean they are still "inflamed")

I'm not sure if I should go back to the doctor. I don't THINK they look really red anymore....and they don't even bother me all the time. I'm not really sure what triggers them to bother me. I just know I have a large doctor bill after my last visit (the strep and mono tests cost more that the insurance didn't cover :( ....and I'm barely affording my bills right now, so don't want to go in unnecessarily.

  • Something wrong with my sex drive?

I'm a 34 year old woman currently seeing a guy for the past few months after having been in a 2 year relationship before that. I am perfectly content having sex once a week or so....maybe more often if it happens...or less often if that happens.

The two guys I have been with the last couple of years want it like...several times a week. I actually DON'T want it that often. I find myself trying so prepare myself to go to bed because I know he's going to want it. Sometimes I DO say no, but then I know he's disappointed. I just can't keep up.

My antidepressant medication changed in December...and I know it has affected me some. Less sensitivity and ability to orgasm. (My doctor prescribed an additional medication to boost the first, but it's also supposed to counteract the sexual side effects of the first). ..But I do still orgasm. With my last partner (the one I had for 2 years), I had no problem having an orgasm. However, I know I still was not keeping up with his sexual needs. He didn't pressure me so much, but I knew he wanted more.

Is there something wrong with me? Even before my medication was changed I wasn't much interested in more than once a week give-or-take. I hear people saying "2-3 times a week" or some people talking about someone had it all the time "morning noon and night"...especially when it's in front of my boyfriend, it's awkward. I think he wishes I wanted it morning, noon, and night :/

  • Blister ON bottom lip?

I have a blister on my bottom lip. It's on in the corner just below the lip on the skin, it's actually ON the lip (partly inside my mouth, partly outside). I have had cold sores before ....two ever starting last summer (ugh..)..but not sure if this is a cold sore, a canker sore, or just a blister of unknown origin.

Can you get cold sores ON the lip (instead of just below it in the corner?). Right now, I don't THINK it looks like a cluster of blisters...just one big one. But it's clear, not white or anything.

Not sure anyone can help without seeing it....just wondering if anyone had any insight for me. Thanks :/

  • Could it be strep throat again?

I'm on my last day of 10 days of penicillin for strep throat. The last few days my throat has started to hurt again some, but not NEARLY as bad as before the antibiotics! Before I felt like I was swallowing needles and my glands were swollen. That went away after about a day of antibiotics. Now, the last couple of days, I have just one spot on the back of my throat that is sore. It's just sore...not like I'm swallowing needles or anything.

I did realize that I had forgotten to change my toothbrush, which I did this morning. I tried to look at my throat, but the whole back of my throat still looks kinda red and....hard to see if anything specific is wrong. It kind of feels like the gland on that side of my neck might still be swollen too (if I press on my neck on that side, it's sore).

I have one dose of penicillin left to take this morning. Wondering if anyone has any insight. I know I'll just have to wait a few days and see if it goes away and maybe go back to the Dr. if not, but just wondering if anyone else had any thoughts about it.

  • My dog doesn't like treats...?

My dog is so very picky about treats. I just want to have fun with him sometimes, play and have him do tricks, and give him some little treats (who doesn't want to give their dogs dog treats sometimes?)

He used to eat them more, but has ALWAYS been picky. He used to like Beggin' Strips and sometimes Denta-stix (Purina brand I think?...the X shaped ones). Now he doesn't even eat those much if at all. I've tried all kinds. Sometimes he MIGHT eat some if I break them into smaller pieces...which makes me think maybe his teeth hurt :( I've never gotten them cleaned at the vet.

My boyfriends mom gives him little pieces of table food almost every night at dinner time. Drives me NUTS...but I sometimes wonder if this is why he does not eat dog treats either. He eats his dog food just fine..., but he likes the "small bite" stuff (he eats Eukanuba maintenance small bite...he doesn't eat it as well if it's not the "small bite" stuff).

I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts. I have tried to buy rawhide bone-type treats (although I'm not sure he's ever liked rawhide bones)...because I figure they'd clean his teeth. We've tried Denta-stix, Dingo Dental sticks, Greenies, ...and even non-teeth cleaning treats, like Benefuls treats, and little doggy milkbone type treats...all kinds of stuff. I don't think it's a type of treat problem...just wondering if anyone thinks it's a teeth/gum pain problem (any way I can help him with that besides getting teeth cleaned at the vet?)....or if anyone thinks it might be the people food treats that turned him off of dog treats.

  • Eye floater or something else? Should I see a dr?

Since this past summer, I have had something with my left eye in which I often feel like there is something in my eye. Not pain, just like something obstructing my vision in that eye. If I try to wipe my eye it doesn't go away. If I close my right eye, I can see a dark spot (not circular spot, more like a line...like a small hair or piece of dust)...float across my vision.

There is no pain...just extremely annoying and I often find myself turning my head to try to see around the obstruction. I went to the optometrist for my yearly eye exam (contact exam) at the end of September. I mentioned the issue with my left eye. In the end, he said nothing of it, but told me I had slight astigmatism in my right eye (borderline needing corrective contact lenses).

Is this an "eye floater"? What is an eye floater? Should I see a doctor about this (since my doctor said nothing about it at my last visit?) If so, do I see my optometrist again or some other kind of doctor? Thanks for your advice :)

  • I'm trying to grate bar soap...?

I'm trying to grate bar soap (Fels Naptha to be specific) to make homemade laundry detergent. The soap is kind of soft and it makes it harder to grate. Is there a way to dry it out? Can I put it in the oven on low heat or something or will that just melt it? Do I just have to leave it out to dry for a few days/weeks to make it easier to grate? Thanks for your help.

  • I used Pet Armor on my dog...?

I used Pet Armor on my dog this past week. I've used it for several months. This time, he ended up with white stuff on his coat where I applied the Pet Armor. I applied it as directed, to the skin between the shoulder blades. Anyone experienced this? I think I could probably wash it off or brush it out eventually (didn't want to do it right away of course). Just wondering why it happened now and has never happened before.

  • Looks like a spider plant?

My boyfriend has this plant outside of his house. It looks a little like a spider plant, but it is only green and does not have the white stripe down the middle (or white edges) on the leaves (or is it fronds???). I can't seem to figure out what kind of plant it is. Over the winter (we live in North Dakota) it turns brown and dies of course, and in the spring just starts growing green again. My boyfriend, when I asked about it, said "Maybe the white stripe comes later in the summer?" (of course the GUY has no idea...I think it was here when he moved in...lol) That doesn't sound right and I don't know if it does. Does anyone have any ideas what kind of plant this might be? It's maybe 1-2 feet high...and maybe 1-2 feet across (I'm "guestimating" because I think there are 2 plants side by side). Thanks.

  • Can you properly housebreak an older dog?

I have a 6 1/2 year old 10lb. long-haired chihuahua. I adopted him about a year and a half ago after my grandma died. My grandma never walked him (she couldn't) and while she did let him outside in the front yard from time to time to go potty, she also put out potty pads for him (although I know he at times either missed the pad or went on the floor, because if I was on the floor...I could tell :/ )

I've always used both potty pads (especially during the day while I'm at work) as well as taking him outside for walks to go potty. Lately, it seems like I'll take him outside...sometimes he'll go, sometimes he won't (not sure if because it's cold and windy out or if the snow on the side of the sidewalks is too high..or he's just stubborn), but then he'll come inside and go. At my boyfriend's house (my dog's been accompanying me there for over a year), he'll sometimes hit the pad, and other times go on the floor...in my boyfriend's room, in his kids' room, in other rooms.... even after I've just recently taken him outside! One time I was there for 4 hours...took him outside when we got there, again after maybe 2 hours, and then by 2 hours later he had gone on the floor again.

I wish he would let me know when he has to go ...whine or scratch at the door or something. He doesn't. If the pad isn't out...he just goes on the floor. Sometimes even if the pad IS out he'll go on the floor a couple of feet away. Grr.

How do I work on this with him? Any ideas or is he too old to properly housebreak and I have to just take him outside every hour or so?

  • What are some free activities to do with a loved one?

Here's the deal. My boyfriend and I are both short on money. We want to be able to do more together, He doesn't like just sitting around the house watching TV, so instead he spends a LOT of time playing video games on his computer. (It's getting to be WAY too much for my liking). We both agree we need to spend more quality time together, but things (going out to dinner, going to play pool, going to movies) gets to be expensive and since we're both pretty paycheck-to-paycheck right now....

His family (his mom, dad, and brother) are currently living with him due to natural disaster which took their house. They may be there until at least spring :/...so that's less time (ok...little to no time) for us alone at his place (unless we go in his bedroom and close his door...which we do, bedroom activities or otherwise). He currently has his kids from a previous marriage every Wednesday and every other weekend....plus during any school holidays.

Suggestions are appreciated. I suggested going for walks together, but it's nearly winter and getting colder out. Also suggested heading out to the mall or bookstore, but you can only go shopping without buying so many times before it's not fun anymore....lol.

  • Cat has a sore. Can we use Neosporin?

My boyfriend's mom's cat ran off for 2 1/2 weeks. After she searched and searched, he finally just showed up again on the back porch this morning. He has what appears to be a big open sore on his back. We're suggesting to her to take him to the vet, but she's trying to avoid it.

Anyways, she just asked if she could put Neosporin on cats. Is this ok? I think she already did, but can she continue to put it on? It doesn't LOOK infected or inflammed, but looks like a wet open sore....about the size of a quarter? Thanks

  • A sore on my tongue...?

I have a little sore on the tip of my tongue. It's like...an inflamed taste bud, or a canker sore, or something. It's been there for almost a week. Any ideas how to get rid of it?

  • My dog licks a lot...?

I have a small dog (not positive about breed, possibly long haired chihuahua or pomeranian). Anyways, he likes to lick people...a lot. I don't let him lick me. Usually a "stop" or a "no" or a small shove to get him off of me is sufficient, but he often still tries. He licks other people though too (my boyfriend's parents, who let him do it!....my little niece, my sister, my mom).

Why does he lick so much? Does he need some salt or something added to his diet or is it just something that's normal for dogs? My boyfriend's mom commented that "he's such a licker" which makes me think it's not normal for him to be wanting to lick that much. Any ideas?
