  • Red irratation / burn on babys bottom... sick with the flu?

Our 7 month old is coming down with the flu and I've noticed a couple of extra poos each day so I take it this is diarrhea for babies.. (first time for us). When wiping him he seemed irritated until I noticed why. He has two reddish spots on his bottom. They weren't there when we went to bed last night and I only noticed them with his first nappy change this morning. They almost look like burns or when a small layer of skin comes off in one spot. Is this caused by the diarrhea and part of this flu? Or do you think it could be something he ate? I have put nappy rash cream on it and will check him again at the next nappy change but just wondering if others have had this problem and how did you heal it? Thanks

  • Baby has stopped wanting milk at all!?

Our 6.5 month old son has all of a sudden gone off milk...and I mean completely! He has always loved his bottles and would drink them until they are drip dry and empty but only yesterday (and now this morning) he starts the bottle and at half way (or even less) he fights me. I burp him like I usually do and havent changed our bottles or formula so I dont know what is bothering him. It has taken me almost an hour to feed him just now and I resorted in putting what he wouldnt drink into rice cereal and he has eaten it that way (yes mummy is smarter than you kid! lol).

I hate having to see him like this and upsetting him but I literally have to trick him or outsmart him or have someone distract him for him to take it then once he realises that hes drinking he throws a tantrum and refuses. He has been bottle fed from around 3months so its nothing new to him. I havent introduced him to any new solids in the last week so it cant be an upset tummy from something new.

Any ideas? Could he be teething? He does not carry on any other time of the day, only when I have the bottle in my hand. Please help this first time mummy! Thanks ladies :)

  • Complaining neighbours... what to do?

Heres the thing, we have these neighbours in our street (not even next door to us) who keep giving us letters complaining about various issues. Dogs barking, loud vehicles, offensive gang-like behaviour (wtf??) and us and our noises caused her so much stress that she miscarried her already high-risk pregnancy. These complaints have been going on for almost two years now. I'm well and truly sick of this as it is not us or any other neighbours making noise. Well today I finally had enough after receiving yet another letter from this fruitcake I just lost it. I have now responded (being firm but not rude) and also offered to mediate with her if this will solve her dispute. Is there anything else I should be doing? Was giving her a response letter a good idea? Nobody in the street has dared to respond to her before. She is late 30s in age and not a whingy 70 year old. I dont know what can make this woman happy. Heres the letter I sent her, I'd like your opinions on my approach. Thanks

    Dear Resident of ****************,

It is with great sadness that I had read your recent letter (dated 14th April 2010) regarding the continued issue of Offensive Noise Pollution in our street. I feel the need to respond to you and seek to have this matter rectified. My aim is for us all to live in the street together in a civilised manner.

Firstly, I would like to thank you for keeping our family, and others in the street, informed of your findings with regards to the current legislation and of Council and Police communications you have had.

Secondly, I agree with you that ‘offensive’ noise needs addressing. My aim is a happier environment for my husband, my son and I to live in (on a long-term basis as we are home owners).

I happily agree to participate in a mediation session with you should you wish to schedule one. However I do not feel that I have caused you any offence or treated you in a gang-like manner as I believe that I have almost never seen you outside of your house while we have been living at our home (3.5years and counting) let alone had a confrontation with you. I have, on rare occasion, greeted your husband with a friendly “Gday” but other than that I feel that you are plain and simple over-exaggerating if you call this gang-like treatment. I resent your comment.

I have searched online and found that there is a Community Justice Centre website that may give you instructions on how to schedule a mediation session on this link: http://www.cjc.nsw.gov.au/

You have repeatedly continued to accuse us for vehicle noise that is disrupting your life. I can understand if you are talking of semi-trailers, Harley Davidson bikes or the similar but the two vehicles owned by my husband and I have small exhaust systems that have been factory installed by Toyota and Mitsubishi. Neither of which violate ANY decibel limitations currently in place by the RTA nor do I feel that we leave the street like “hoons” to go to work with excessive disruption to you let alone my sleeping son in his baby seat of my vehicle. We too are hard working, honest, good Church-attending Christians and live a peaceful life. We are well-educated people and do not believe that there should be any cause for neighbourhood disputes such as these issues you mention. Please, let us work together.

I do sympathise with you about your miscarriage last year. They are difficult times to go through but with the family you mention, I am certain that they have supported you through the tough time. I too was pregnant last year and delivered our son in October. We are truly blessed and I wish you every happiness with the same.

While I was pregnant (and at home), the only noise that I did hear coming from a vehicle was from the brakes of our postman’s bike. I’m sure you have heard him squeak by each morning but other than that I felt that I could relax and enjoy my nesting time prior to the birth without any great deal of stress.

If I can be of any other assistance to you with regards to the “Noise Pollution” that you have unfairly directed at my residence during the last 12 months, please let me know so that we can resolve the issues together as neighbours.

    Neighbourly regards,

    *******

  • Baby rice cereal question... very excited first time mummy!?

Our son is turning 6mths next week so after his mid-morning bottle I gave him some rice cereal. He took to it and seemed to enjoy it (little guts!!) but I was wondering how often I should give it to him? I thought it was only once a day but there is nothing on the pack about how often at first. Thanks to those who can help.

  • Question about rice cereal and introducing solids...?

Hi all, first time mum here. Our son is 5 and a half months old and we're ready to try him out on solids. My question is do I have to start with rice cereal? or can i give him something like a single pureed vegetable? I was told that banana or sweet potato are good foods to use as starters but then everyone I know has always introduced their kids to rice cereal first. Also I've read the packaging on the rice cereal, you only give them one teaspoon of it at first. What about when you introduce a single vegetable?

  • Return of periods after giving birth.. please help experienced mums...?

I gave birth to our son in October 2009 and bled for about 3 or 4 weeks. On December 14 (once I had stopped breastfeeding) I got my first period. My cycles are usually 32-34 days and it is now January 23 and I haven't gotten another period yet. Hubby and I have been sexually active but I can gaurantee that we are not pregnant (unless we have a real miracle!). My question is this, do your periods just come back the same as pre-pregnancy or are they irregular at first? Thanks to all who can help this first time mummy. God bless.

  • Oil weeping walls in Sydney house - miracle or not?? Your thoughts on this...?

Those of you in Australia might remember hearing about a family in Sydney that claimed to have oil weeping from the walls after the son had died.

Just now I saw on the news that the father in this family is being charged with credit card fraud but he still assures people that the walls are real and are a miracle. And only a few weeks ago they were talking about wanting their son to become a saint when if I remember correctly he died while driving without a license and was speeding...

What does everyone think? Has anyone been to the house? I have and frankly I didn't buy it...

  • 2 questions - tummy time & holding their head up on their own...?

Hi ladies, just wondering how much tummy time my 11 week old should be having?

One nurse told me 5-10mins a couple times a day and another told me "No! At least an hour a day minimum" which seems impossible at the moment as he's not a fan of tummy time at all if he's in a bad mood.

Also, our son is starting to hold it up for about 3 or 4 seconds then just lets go but at how old did your baby hold their head up properly? I cant wait to see our son do this hehe

  • Please help... unsettled 10 week old...?

Hi mums, I hope your knowledge and experience can help me out...

Our little 10 week old son has been VERY restless today, alot more than normal and come to think of it he was a bit like this yesterday too. He's been fed (bottle fed), burped and had nappy changes when he's needed them today. He hasnt slept at all besides a couple of short naps about 10 mins each when he was lying on his tummy across either my husbands chest or mine. Its very unusual for him to be like this as he has never had troubles sleeping in his bassinette before.

If he's not asleep then he's screaming/crying at the top of his lungs. We've checked his temperature and he's fine and he isnt showing signs of it being wind upsetting him.

We think he might be teething but i've given him teething rings to munch on but hes not interested in them.

    Any ideas? Thanks ladies x

  • Question about sterilizing teething rings...?

Our son is starting to teeth and I have just washed the teething rings we bought him in mild soap with a cloth. It doesnt say anything about sterilizing them before giving them to him. He is only 10 weeks old and I have always been told that anything that goes near him has to be sterile.

I use a Milton cold water sterilizer for his bottles. Should I put the teething rings in that? Please help... Thanks

  • Question about periods after childbirth...?

Hi ladies, I'm a first time mummy of a 10 week old precious little man. I delivered naturally and bled for about 3 or 4 weeks following the birth. I was breastfeeding until my son was 7 weeks old but have since stopped and he is on bottles. On Monday this week I started light bleeding. My usual periods would usually be heavy for the first two days then become lighter for the rest of the week but on Monday there was hardly any flow. On Tuesday it was heavier but Wednesday and today it is hardly flowing. Is this normal for your first period after childbirth or do they usually go straight back to the regular flow pre-pregnancy?

Thanks to all who can help.
