The mechanic says to replace the ball joints I need to replace the entire control arm, these are spendy, $450 each. Do I really need to replace the control arm or can the ball joints only be replaced?

What parts chain do you think provides better parts and why, or do you think OME parts are best? Please tell me if you are a professional mechanic or a shade tree mechanic.

My hot water is also softened with a water softener, the cold water is not. Some people have told me my anode rod is shot in my water heater, could this cause a reaction that would result in a smell? Is my softener malfunctioning and adding something to the water and causing the smell?

The pond is about 30 ft by 60 ft and 4 ft deep max. I believe it freezes solid over the winter, but I have never actually checked. I am looking for any type of wildlife I could put in the pond to help control the algae. If it could somehow survive over the winter that would be even better. There is a fountain for areation but it is removed in the winter time. It is a holding pond for runoff, but it is healthy, it has cattails and frogs, we have even seen large turtles in it.

I am not dissing biking, I enjoy biking myself. It just seems to be dangerous to ride that close to to vehicles on the road and when these bikers ride in turn lanes but don't turn, you just don't really know what they are going to do. The first one looks like a good scanner and is reasonably priced, the second is similar but also scans in the 800 mhz range which is described as a public service band, the price on this scanner is much higher. What is transmitted in the 800 mhz range and is it worth getting for a higher price?
