8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality10 years agoWhat is the right age to teach children the truth about the more tragic parts of history?
Things like the French Revolution and the Holocaust and some of the atrocities of war, etc. Also, when should we stop painting the false picture that America is perfect? Like the stuff we did to Indians for example.
I'm doing a research paper on this and I have to explore both sides of the issue: Teaching it to them early, or waiting to teach them. Can anyone think of some good sources to find some information on this topic?
Things I need to research:
the loss of innocence
the psychological effect of finding out about tragedy on children
the current regulations on teaching history
the ethics of withholding truth from children
the benefits of knowing the truth about history
If you have any ideas for other topics I could research, that would be great. If you know of some good sources to find some of this information, I would be most grateful if you would share it. If you have any strong arguments for either side of the issue, I'd love to hear them. This is a college research paper and it's going to be published, so it's kind of a big deal.

How old should children be when they start learning about the gory parts of history?
Since I'm going into teaching, I thought this would be an interesting thing to research because it seems like children don't learn about World War II or the French Revolution or a lot of the truth about history until sixth grade and I'm not sure if that's right. Should they be taught that kind of thing earlier so they don't develop a skewed point of the world or should we shelter children so they are naive and innocent?
I was thinking about doing this as a research paper. Do you think it's a good idea to to a research paper on? Any input would be great, like sub-topics and questions I could research about this topic. Also, if you have any personal ideas I'd love to hear them. And if you can think of some good websites or articles about this subject that would be great. Thanks!

3 AnswersGrade-Schooler1 decade agoWhat are some good topic ideas for a college English research paper?
I will be working on a series of papers for the rest of the semester dealing with the same topic in-depth. I don't want to be stuck with a topic that I'll get sick of or regret choosing later. The thing is, I can't think of any topics to choose from.
Here are the rules of the essay: It can't be about abortion or anything that has too much religious backing to be valid. It has to have a lot of facts and research that can back my arguments. It can't be about making pot legal.
First I will be arguing for one side of the issue, then I will write another paper about the opposite side of the issue and be just as convincing. So it has to be something I'm not too emotionally involved in. I will also be doing a final paper on it. So, a lot of writing. I don't want a topic I'll get too sick of. Oh yeah, and our final papers will be published so I'm feeling the pressure.
Any ideas for topics that I can look in to? Thanks!
2 AnswersHigher Education (University +)1 decade agoGood harmless roommate pranks?
Lately my roommates have been doing silly things to my room like taking all my shoes and hanging them from the ceiling and cutting out moons (and leaving a message saying that I've been mooned) and stuff. All of my roommates and I are friends, but I want to get them back. Any ideas? Harmless silly pranks only! (nothing dirty or anything that would make them mad)

1 AnswerStandards & Testing1 decade agoExplain Adam Smith and his "Wealth of Nations" where he talks about his tendency to trade and barter?
What was his take on Human Nature, and what makes mankind tend to trade and barter, according to him? Explain his Wealth of Nations. It's interesting stuff, but everything that I read goes right over my head. I just need to write a 150-word report for my college Social Systems and Issues class. Thanks!
1 AnswerEconomics1 decade agoWhat, in your personal opinion, was the worst single event in human history?
Be specific about it, and explain why. For instance, if it's a war, explain what event in the war and what made it so horrible. Just curious...
10 AnswersHistory1 decade agoWhat should I eat at college?
I need a grocery/recipe list for when I go to college that satisfies the following conditions:
1. Easy to make. (I'm no expert cook.)
2. Quick to make. (I'll be very busy and won't have much time to make anything.)
3. Cheap. (It's very important. I don't have much money in my budget. Luckily I got a good scholarship, but I still need to pay for books and other expenses. We're talking $10-15 a week for food.)
4. Healthy. (I want to LOSE Freshman 15, not gain it.)
Is what I'm asking for even possible? I need some serious tips. Thanks!

5 AnswersHistory1 decade agoWhat do the lyrics from the song "Come Sail Away" by Styx mean?
I mean, it's all about childhood memories one minute and about angels and aliens the next. Was it just random, weirdly organized song, or does it actually have meaning? I was also wondering about the other Styx songs...
