  • Has a bill been passed that will help me lower my mortgage?

Our home is worth almost $250,000 less than what we actually purchased it for. Because of this we can't refinance. And, we're making about $150,000/yr for a family of 4 in Northern California. That may seem like a lot to many people, but it really isn't. When your home was purchased for more than $750,000 and is now worth less than $500,000.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Unexplained thigh muscle pain?

My daughter developed unexplained pain in her rt thigh approx 12 days ago. The doctors can't seem to figure out what's going on. Anti-inflammatory meds aren't helping. She's had x-rays, an ultrasound, a blood test and an MRI. All have returned negative for inflammation, tumors, torn muscles, broken bones. If you've ever experienced this or know of someone who experienced this...PLEASE tell me what the diagnosis was? And how was it treated? She's in so much pain and I feel completely helpless.

  • How do I sell antiques?

I was given some bifocals and jewelry from the early 1900s. Is there some place I can have it appraised to see if it's worth anything? If so, I'd like to sell them.

  • When is the garage too cold to have your cat (kitten) in there?

We recently adopted 2 kittens and we do love them. However, we are considering having them stay out in the garage at night. This way, they can play, sleep, poop, etc., without waking us up. However, we don't want them to get ill or freeze to death either. Any advice/help is greatly appreciated!

  • How do you talk to neighbors who love to party late?

We moved to the neighborhood less than a year ago. One set of neighbors have thrown several parties, which isn't the problem. The problem is I feel like we've been invited without actually being invited. What I mean is 1. Their music is very loud until about 11:30pm, 2. Then they proceed to clean up afterwards and it's very loud. I am a very light sleeper and can not sleep through the breaking down of the tables/chairs and clinking and banging of glasses/aluminum cans for an additional hour-two after the party has ended. I want them to know that I have no problem with them having as many parties as they want. However, I don't feel that they are showing my family the same courtesy, hence having the music blast well past my kids bedtime (and mine!) and then spending 1-2 hours after cleaning up which isn't a quiet process for them. They have been a little friendly but haven't exactly rolled out the welcome mat since we've been here. Regardless, we want to remain cordial.

  • What does probate mean when there's no will in the state of Louisiana?

Unfortunately, my mom didn't care enough to take the time to write out a will before she passed away this summer. She lived in Louisiana and owned some property there. There are 6 children and no one was named as her beneficiary. How do we deal with this without paying a fortune? And 4 of us live out of state.

  • Can someone please help me with information on retaining Power of Attorney for a terminally parent?

My mom is terminally ill. Unfortunately, she hasn't made any preparations for either healthcare or what to do after she's passed away. And there are 6 surviving children and unfortunately, only 2 of us are really responsible and don't want the burden of unexpected expenses to sneak up on us. We'd really like to try and get things in order as much as possible. My youngest brother and I will most likely be the ones financially responsible for any extra costs. Because of this, we'd really like to have say in her healthcare, as well as funeral arrangements.
