Why do porn movies seem to use saxophone music so much?
I mean, can I have a technical answer from music students/ scholars, please? Pretty please? I'm really curious.
3 AnswersMovies1 decade agoIs Western culture superior because they can laugh at themselves?
I mean, the notion that we humans are absurd and contradictory is quite exclusively Western isn't it?
Chinese want 'face'.
Arabs want to call Westerners imbeciles.
Others worship rocks, without really thinking twice about it.
All humans are ridiculous.

Racists, obviously you'd rather be dead, but I wasn't asking you.

I mean, if you have it, why would you bother if someone insulted it? Its not like words can take it away from you, right?
2 AnswersEtiquette1 decade agoWould you prefer to be born rich and then choose to give it all away, or be born poor...?

2 AnswersPsychology1 decade agoIs it dumb of the pope to criticize the capitalist economic model?
I mean, he says that people should not practice birth control. If we don't practice birth control, surely we need an economic model based on greed to feed our uncontrolled increasing numbers. I mean, where's his big picture?
I think that a morally sound economic model only works when we humans decide to control our own populations. Look at any country that is a humanitarian disaster - we can see that their self-control is far far short of their economic ability.
9 AnswersCurrent Events1 decade agoWhat form of past tense is "was taken" or "was made"?
Looks like simple past tense, but I'm not sure... Thanks in advance.
6 AnswersWords & Wordplay1 decade agoIs it cheaper to let a few cities go under, or try to make the world emit less CO2?
Which would be cheaper, supposing the Arctic ice could really be saved by a massive reduction in CO2 emissions: Trying to reduce CO2 across the globe, or coping with the costs of relocating people at coastal areas?
3 AnswersCurrent Events1 decade agoRegarding genocide, what is the minimum population required for genocide to become a possibility?
When people kill small tribes or wipe out villages, these acts are not classified as genocide. How many people should a group have before they can can qualify as a large enough social structure such that we would consider them potential victims of genocide? Must there be a critical mass before we consider them a "race"?
1 AnswerLaw & Ethics1 decade agoIf most government bills inevitably come with wastage, wouldnt it be efficient to waste the government instead?
Seriously, don't you think government is just a massive waste the way it stands today?
2 AnswersGovernment1 decade agoBig Three Bailout due to "Forces beyond our control"?
Shouldn't it be "Forces beyond out ability to anticipate?" Would you have expected better from top "brains" and CEO material?
Would you trust these same brains to lead in the immediate future?
4 AnswersEconomics1 decade agoDo government rescue packages encourage more stupidity?
Unsustainable stuff, like borrowing money that we will have no way of repaying, and business practices that mislead and are only geared towards growth of the business (instead of growing of benefits to consumers).
Is it also the government's way of pulling wool over the citizens eyes? Cos it seems like everywhere in the world all governments are doing it. Even the most crooked ones in third world countries.
Should we as citizens of the world be suspicious? Is the government encouraging us to continue in our blind optimism of past economic models?
2 AnswersEconomics1 decade agoHow does the real economy affect the fake economy, and vice versa?
The real economy does the business, while the fake economy (ie. banking and finance and accountants) make the big bucks.
Now that the real economy is taking a beating because of the fake economy, how can real economic production bypass the bullcrap that the accountants and money-movers try to pass off as productivity?
1 AnswerEconomics1 decade agoIs it more important to feed the hungry, or prevent them from increasing in number?
There are 150 million children under the age of 5 who are starving in the African continent. While I agree that ethically, the First World is obliged to end their suffering, I think its just as important to prevent the birth of another 150 million or more infants who will be born into the same situation in the next 5 years.
My problem is this, from an ethics point of view, how should we treat the starving adults who continue to reproduce?
1) Treat them like animals who are just responding to their natural instincts without a human appreciation for their own miserable situation, and no appreciable empathy to those that they produce and thus force into the same life of what we call "misery"
2) Treat them like persecutors who force innocent infants into a life without food, and prosecute them - punish them with measures to prevent further persecution (sterilize them?).
We can continue to work stupid and try and feed the growing masses of the hungry. Or we can work smart, and prevent the masses from growing into the inevitable suffering that these innocents face.
What do you think?
4 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoCan capitalism work without greed?
Can any political or economic system work if people weren't greedy, or weren't willing to do really dumb things because of their greed?
6 AnswersEconomics1 decade agoA lot of blame and derision is laid upon greed. Is greed really bad? Or is it something we cannot do without?
With massive losses facing financial institutions and their clueless customers, the blame lays squarely on greed and our endless obsession with growth.
Is greed really a bad thing? Is it something we would want to eliminate? Or is it something that we will never be able to do without, until the end of humankind?
2 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoAnyone know this fly species with a yellow abdominal segment?
Its about a third of an inch long, it bugs my outdoor dogs like crazy, but doesn't hang around garbage like flesh flies or other flies. I'm trying to identify this species and learn how to control it. They have a yellow or yellow/orange abdominal segment. Thanks in advance. I couldn't find any websites on it.
