Why I hate mental hospitals and psychiatrists.?
My friend is majoring psychology and I'm microbiology major. I've recently suffered auditory hallucination (currently no cure available) and got interested in psychology of mental health. I've looked up official criteria in which they categorize the mental disease and this included vast majority of natural human trait. This include instinctive fears related to evolution of human being which made human smart and improved survival rate.
I do not think criteria used by psychiatrist is 100% correct and safe for following reasons:
1. Not much is known about human brain, therefore, making assumption based on behavior
2. No permanent cure for depression, schizophrenia, and paranoia which compose vast majority of mental disease. Even effect of prevalent form of treatment - antidepressants (serotonin uptake inhibitor) - is not well known.
3. I had an impression on psychiatrists tapping upon your uncertainty toward your emotion while assuring they know everything. Just like pickup artists use certain line to open you up in order to get information/affection.
I volunteered to go to mental hospital in order to experience what it is like. It is a jail. No treatment value. People lie just to get out. Nurses are unfriendly/under qualified. facility is old and unsafe. Barely any doctors. Once person died because of no doctor. You are more likely to become mentally ill even for staying one day. One thing was clear, they don't love you and money is their interest.
2 AnswersPsychology7 years agoWhy do people drink so much alcohol, Why is it legal, and Why is other substance illegal?
I mean alcohol doesn't give you a high or a trip or a psychedelic experience or extreme happiness or etc. It only ruins your liver tissue, stomach lining, and lung in the process of getting delivered to your brain. I've been drinking all day after I've entered university but hang over and feeling like crap the next day puking in a toilet just not worth drinking at all unlike smoking a joint or tripping on you know what.
What I've noticed from alcohol is: Ingestion (1-2 shots) - feeling a little buzz (little bit energetic and relaxed at the same time) - Ingestion(2-3 shots) - dizziness, confusion, lost of coordination (sometime lose memory and end up in a bed with wrong girl) - next day feeling like crap, headache, nausea + vomiting.
BTW it's unfair to only legalize weed in Colorado even if that's only an experiment and 1 once a day which is plenty. I'm sure THC is safer then both alcohol and cigarette to health with proven medical benefits. There have been plenty of research done since the introduction of weed just to be prevented by government to be publicized (affected by lobbying from alcohol and tobacco industry + enormous profit from tax). I know this because my father is a chemical engineering professor(department chair) who is pro weed and shares joint with me lol. Hope I don't get in trouble posting this.
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics7 years agoWhy did 93% of African-American voted for Obama in 2012?
According to the University of Connecticut, 93% of African-American voted for Barack Obama on 2012 election. In comparison, 39% of white voted Obama and 59% voted for Romney.
I'm just curious why? (Personal view: If you watch presidential debate, Obama did not kept his promise including Obama care. Currently ~50,000,000 people are on food stamps that cost $71,800,000,000. All that money comes from people who work hard for their food. Before he was a president, only 20,049,000 people were receiving food stamps. Romney might have had flawed personality, however, he have the actual knowledge to put people back to job.)
P.S. I think voting should be screened. For example, there should be few questions about the candidates to validate the vote. This proves the voter actually knows about the candidate's track record and feasibility of future plans.
13 AnswersElections7 years agoWas it wrong of me to send this text to my girlfriend?
So, me and my girl (both 24) have been dating for 2 years and my girlfriend have been acting distance for about 2 month. I know there is a lot going on with her life such as finding job as she just graduated from grad school. I know she has time in her day where she could spend with me but she doesn't. Hate to say but I'm madly in love with her but she doesn't reciprocate anymore. We text only one or two time per week currently, always being me that initiate. And last night, out of blue, I've sent her this message out of desperation that I haven't got a reply.
"I suddenly remembered that time when we sneaked into park when it was dark and \we sat on grass beside lake. Good night"
Boy did I felt weird this morning. Feeling extremely embarrassed that I want to choke myself. Could you give a hand in this situation? Thanks a lot!
3 AnswersSingles & Dating7 years agoMy girlfriend is acting distant. What should I do?
Hi, all.
This can be long and boring story but please take time to read if you could and help me out.
So, let me tell you about brief history of what have been going on.
- Previous history: Me and my girlfriend is both 24 and met at college. We have been dating for little more than 2 years and everything have been great. Her parents adores me and my parents like her too. We've traveled over seas together and had a great time. We tell each other every little things and never argued. This lasted till a month and a half ago. She have graduated grad school and start working as a hostess at a high end restaurant while looking for a real job.
- Current situation: Since then, she started acting distant for no apparent reason. She stopped coming to my apartment and rarely texted me. She never say "I love you" first and when I go to her house, she won't let me in her room saying that it is messy. We also haven't had sex in almost a month. I just don't know what is going on. I was planning future with her because she is girl of my dream. She is faithful, kind, smart, and beautiful like a model. She is also quite wealthy and well mannered which fits in very well with my family as well.
- Personal interpretation of current situation: It seems like she is trying to avoid any situation that provoke sex as well as emotional intimacy. She indicated indirectly that she is under stress of finding a job and appeared little bit depressed and frustrated. As much as I want to believe that is the case but I've been stabbed on my back many times in my previous relationships where they all cheated on me. Some part of me is telling me that she is relieving her emotional and sexual needs on someone else in her own room.
- What I've done: As for now, I've never mentioned about this situation and only play safe on my part. I've never texted her negative stuff and only text once in a while. I've learned from my past experience that bringing up issues will corner the girl and make her run away even in a constructive manner of an approach. Therefor, I've decided to never assume anything and blindly trust her which usually brings good result.
- What I want to know: I'd like to know if anyone here was in similar situation and if some method worked out for you, please let me know. I really want to work out this relationship that I feel like a once in a life time chance. I've met many girls but she is special and I want to marry her someday.

6 AnswersVegetarian & Vegan8 years agoWhere did the chemical elements come from? (Question for scientists)?
I'm in university and taken most of the chemistry and biology courses offered by professors.
I'm very much interested in origin of everything. Such as, first cell formed in Earth and whether Big Bang was the true origin of everything.
- My biochemistry teacher told me about the formation of first cell as chemical interaction. The young Earth was bombarded with lightning and extreme temperature flux that catalyzed the bond formation and breakage. Experimentally when the similar condition was applied to chemical elements that composed life have formed nucleic acids and proteins. (according to my professor)
- I've known Big Bang theory as origin of the formation of this universe. However, recently the string theory prove that there were time before Big Bang. Einstein said there were no time before Big Bang but there actually were. It was a different dementia. There were fluid like membrane sheets that collided to each other according to string theorists. I don't know any details but that sounded ground breaking.
My real question is where did all these elements and matters that form everything?
Where did carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur, and etc, originate?
Where did photon and proton and electron come from?
How, when, where, and for what reason?
I couldn't find any academic article/ journal to get a clear answer.
Any opinion is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
2 AnswersChemistry8 years agoAbout Binaural Beats for Meditation?
I've heard about binaural beats can help with meditation so I downloaded Monroe's hemi-sync audio and listened to it. He says, in the audio, the different frequencies of flat sound is going to flow into each ear and you will hear vibration created by brain. One flat frequency came first on left ear and the other flat frequency on the other ear. I heard the vibration. I took out ear bud from one ear and the sound still vibrates. Also in Wikipedia (type binaural beats) it says you should hear a flat beat when one ear bud is taken out, but it still vibrates on one ear.
I'm so confused. If they are lying or my ears are lying. Someone can clarify this?
Thanks!
2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoHow to deal with people asking for money?
I live in an apartment with large parking lot. This morning I got on my car to go to class. This black guy pulled over and asked for change. I said I don't have any. He asked if he can get some gas out of my car. I said no. He asked me if I have any change 3 more times. I repeated no. When I was about to pull off, he yelled that I owe him money.
Similar situations happened many times, either in gas station or any sort of parking lot.
If you had been in these sort of situation, what would you do?
Thanks!

1 AnswerGarden & Landscape8 years agoWhy do people like rap music?
- My observation:
When I happen to listen to rap music on radio, it is all about sex, money, car, and how cool they are. The instrumental beats are all made out of computer synthesized instruments which would take no longer than couple hours. The lyrics are focused on matching words derived from slang.
-Overall personal feeling:
Comparing rap music to food, it is like Cheetos puff for following reasons.
1. It is actually not a legit food.
2. It is hollow in the inside.
3. It taste good but you get fat.
4. Small quantity is puffed up to appear bigger.
In contrast, good music with actual instruments and good lyrics (not abut sex, drug, car, hoe, etc) is like a flaminyon steak for the following reasons.
1. It is a real food.
2. It is full in the inside.
3. It taste good and human deserves it.
4. After eating you feel good.
- Last remark: I know I'm biased against rap music because of the media portraits. But whenever rap music is on radio saying (about cars "I wake up in a new Bugatti; My rarry cost my hundred bills; Lamborghini mercy she so thirsty...etc"/ sex "pick up quick girls; hoes in my house; I like my kisses down low; I fu** her till the morning... etc"/ drugs/ money), it annoys me for these reasons.
1. The lyrics portrays deepest human greed.
2. There is no intelligence involved and repeating over and over.
3. It degrades human dignity by focusing on impulsive, immature, crime, drug, and treating women like a sex machine.
4. They exaggerate everything and anything.
5. They try to make abnormality and chaos a coolest thing in the world.
-So, why do people support and listen to rap music?
12 AnswersRap and Hip-Hop8 years agoWhy am I born in this place, this time, and this body?
I woke up early in the morning today and struck with this random thought. What am I? I can see, think, smell, move, feel, and love. Biologically, I'm an organism sharing 99% of genetic material with chimpanzee and also belong to mammalian family like mice or rabbit. Humans are composed of cells which could be found on trees or ant or even bacteria.
I am born because one of the germ cell randomly fused with maternal egg cell following the cell division. A course of time, my organs are generated along with arms and legs and other parts. You don't remember from 1-3 years all because your brain cells haven't matured enough to store memory. Some research claim, the human intelligence at those age is same as monkeys. From age 5 and beyond, you may start recollecting memory and stored in subconscious mind. Most of us will end up in public schools and then college and then work. Some will have easier life then others and some won't be able to live at all depending on the situation. Your personality and the way you perceive this world will be different depending on your culture and parenting and friends and so on. Time will pass and you'll get old end up being rich or poor, happy or sad, famous or unknown, success or fail.
At the end, everyone dies and recycles back to nature and any other creatures like trees, ant, and birds. In other word you stop to exist as mere part of ecosystem and your body will chemical decompose or your organs will be donated. Think about it. There is absolutely nothing. You won't be able to think, see, feel, move, love, eat, cry, and so on.
Humans, through natural selection, developed smarter because they are born weak. In order to survive, the fellow human being had to form close relationship with one another, thus, language/religion/nations were born. Inquisitive human mind, which is beneficial to survival, demand more understanding of their surroundings which developed science and technology. As of now, our understanding of surrounding follows: Big bang gave birth to the universe we live in. Big bang occurred out of nothing. Time didn't exist before big bang as does in black holes. Billions of galaxies were formed and earth were made along with moon. During the formation of earth, rigorous chemical reaction cycle have generated biological molecule and biological interact with each other to form a cell.
I'm a microbiology student and also a christian. It's ironic that I know god probably don't exist, but I still want to believe that he does. Because it's painful to admit the fact that human beings merely exist as part of the universe and nothing special and no after life.
Can't believe I wrote this. I must have been stressed because I screwed up an exam. lol.
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoSomeone intentionally put dirty soil on top of my car hood! What should I do? :(?
I live in an apartment and when I went out to get groceries I saw this pile of dirty soil sitting on my clean car hood. So I removed the soil but there were dirty stains on my hood everywhere. There are many cars on the parking lot but it is only on my car so I assume it is intentional. I'm a peaceful person and I believe I've never done anything drastic to provoke my neighbors. I don't think its big of a deal to call a police or something like that because there is no real damage done but it's still pisses me off! :/
So.. should I just keep it to myself and venting here or any other solution in this type of situation?
I honestly want to beat the **** out of the person if I knew who did it.
p.s. I think the person knew there were no surveillance camera and probably living in the same apartment.
3 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs8 years agoAre there anyway I can meet with God?
According to bible, me or you are all son of God and he is looking after you. I once were interested, and dig up some websites that tells you how to meet God. The point they are making is that you just have to believe in him and you'll know he exist. I had some desperate moments in my life and every time I try reaching the voice of God, there were no answers. I have a lot of doubt in my mind and I really wish to see him before I die. It is strange that something makes me crave to meet God so bad and I don't even go to church. Some say, they have somehow seen God either by close death experience or through their dreams. In YouTube, I saw people speaking in different language and sometimes faint with no reason. Also, numbers of proof that can't be explained by science. I'm a scientist myself but there are no evidence how the first cell created. Some say, abrupt changes in early earth's climate might have caused abrupt chemical reaction or the comet with organic material have landed on earth. Many of these theories are highly unlikely considering numbers of chemical bonds to established simultaneously to give rise to a smallest bacteria. Also, even if the cell is somehow formed, it can't survive the environment without some sort of extra cellular matrix. Adding to this, I have to say, human brain is the greatest mystery of all. Our body is not special, just a sophisticated mechanical structure with breathing pipes and chemical interaction to move around molecules. Science will be able to tell every single mechanism of how the body works in the future but not the way people dream or creative thoughts. It may look like trillions of neurons sending electric signals simultaneously but it is generating something out of nothing. Nature wants lowest possible energy form to exist but humans are strictly against it. Quantum scientist have done experiment to prove the God's existence which they believe he does exist. When human die, there are spirits left in a form of photon in vacuum. And those photons occupies individual spaces in the universe. All the knowledge and memories are spread on the universe when you die and it will exist forever. Therefore, if you somehow put back to life with future technology, you won't be able to add any memory or knowledge because you already used up your space in the universe. Quantum physics is not fully capable of proving how the photons contain memories and knowledge but it is astonishing that beautiful shining protons left behind the dead body. Clearly there is a very beginning that causes everything the way they exist now and there is a reason why we are here. I'd like to meet God in person or through dream so I can solve millions of questions in my head, driving me crazy. Any opinion is greatly appreciated.
Thanks for reading! I hope it wasn't so boring. :)
