  • Travelling through Dubai with a laptop?

I am travelling Emirates Airlines to South Africa, with a 3.5 hour stopover in Dubai.

I am carrying a laptop with me. TO MY KNOWLEDGE, it contains no prohibited materials (copyrighted/illegal software, pornography etc).

Just so that I know, what exactly is the process when travelling through Dubai with a laptop? What do they check?

  • Easiest way to get a quick & cheap divorce in London?

Several years ago my wife and I rushed into marriage. 3 years ago we realised that it was a mistake and we have both moved on. We live apart, both have new partners and we are both very happy.

We are still friends, we have no children, no property and no issues with possessions. Basically, ALL we want to do is cancel our marriage contract.

We are both 100% in agreement on this entire situation. Is there a quick, easy and cheap way to do this?

  • Why is it wrong to depict or portray the Islamic prophet Muhammed?

This is not meant to bring offence, I just want to learn the facts about this issue...

Why are images of the Islamic prophet Muhammed banned? Is it correct that a death sentence is issued on people who depict or portray Muhammed? Why all the sensitivity about the issue?

  • Burnt my thumb, how do I deal with a REALLY bad blister?

I burnt my thumb about 3 hours ago on some EXTREMELY hot pressurised boiling water. The blister appeared INSTANTLY and is quite large (about 2 square centimetres).

I've had my thumb on an ice-pack pretty much the whole time, but it's still burning quite badly.

  • Advice on a Flymo 300v hover mower?

I've been cutting my lawn and I may have accidentally gone over a solid object (probably a small chunk of wood). I had a look at it and everything seems to be in place and nothing is jammed. It SEEMS to be working, but when I use it it makes a loud grinding noise. I reckon I've killed it. Any ideas on how it may be fixed?

  • Is this illegal / fraudulent?

I live in an apartment complex that is owned by "Company A" and managed by "Company B".

Company A is fantastic but I have no contact with them apart from when my lease is about to expire.

Company B are the people I need to talk to whenever anything needs to be repaired or if anything goes wrong.

The person at Company B who I am supposed to talk to is a woman, but whenever I call with a problem a man answers the phone. Initially he refused to put me through to the woman and then he subsequently claimed to actually BE the woman. At one point I asked him outright if he WAS Ms. <name deleted> and he hesitated before replying "um... yeah, yes I am". He is rude, obnoxious, abusive and not only does he refuse to assist with serious problems on the property, but he shouts at me and threatens to bill ME for these problems which are clearly not my fault.

I believe this man might be her assistant or someone lower down on the chain of command.

He is basically fobbing us off and bullying us into not calling by pretending to be someone else. Is he allowed to claim to be this woman? Is he committing an offence or doing something illegal?

  • Question about car insurance in London?

My sister has gone overseas for a few weeks and has left her car at my house where I am taking care of it. I am not insured so I don't drive it.

My housemate has insurance on her own car, would she legally be allowed to drive my sisters car? I heard somewhere that she could drive it, but she'd only have 3rd party coverage. Is that true?

  • Desperate!!! Rights of casual workers being made redundant?

I have been working for the same company for over five years as a van driver. I have asked my manager on numerous occasions if the company would sign me up to a permanent contract but I was turned down every time without being given a reason. The most common excuse was "we aren't taking on any permanent employees at the moment". Although I have worked full-time for over 5 years, I am still on a casual contract.

I have just found out that I will very probably be made redundant just before christmas. As a casual worker, am I entitled to a redundancy pay-out? If not, what rights do I have?

If you could state your sources when answering, that would be a great help. If not, that's ok too. Want any and all info that I can get.

  • How do I identify a device from it's IP address?

On my laptop I can see a few devices. I recognise most of them, but there are 2 that I am unsure of. All it shows is their IP addresses and whether they are online or offline. Is there any way I can identify them?

  • Boilsoft Video Splitter doesn't work anymore, any ideas?

I bought Boilsoft Video Splitter (version 5.16 I think) quite a long time ago. Unfortunately now that they've released a new version, my antivirus (Norton 360) has suddenly started viewing this program as a virus and automatically removes it.

I went to the Boilsoft website and they say I can upgrade my version for free, I just need to enter the email address I used when I purchased it. Problem is, I've had LOADS of different email addresses over the years (two for work, one for home, one for yahoo! answers, one for friends etc) and I've deleted most of them in favour of using just 2 email addresses. I can't remember which of the addresses that I deleted was used to purchase the software.

    Any ideas?

  • Anyone know of budget accommodation in central Paris?

I will be travelling by EuroStar with 2 friends to Paris in the last week of September for a birthday. We've got pretty much everything organised except accommodation. We're looking for something that is pretty central (close to major tourist attractions).

We're working on a pretty tight budget, so the more cost-effective the better. We'd rather not stay in a hostel (done that before), so we're looking at budget hotels.

    Any ideas?

  • Sick hamster, can you help?

My housemate has a 2-year-old female syrian hamster.

Lately her lower abdomen has swollen a LOT. We've looked this up and popular opinion says that she might be constipated. She hasn't had that many bowel movements, so we gave her a small amount of vegetable oil and some soft fruit. This hasn't helped.

She also seems quite lethargic. She sleeps a lot more than usual and doesn't run on her wheel or exercise as much as usual.

    Any ideas?

  • Damaged my achilles tendon, can you help?

I've been to the doctor and she said my achilles tendon is seriously inflamed at the point where it joins my heel bone.

When I wake up in the morning my heel hurts like it's actually broken, then it slowly starts feeling a little bit better as the day goes on.

I've been told to take ibuprofen and also to use something like ibugel or voltarol emulgel on my heel.

Is there anything else I should be doing? Resting it? Exercising it?

  • Xbox 360 first-person-shooter game suggestions?

My sisters birthday is coming up. She LOVES 1st person shoot-em-up style games. She's completely addicted to the new Wolfenstein and my wife is getting her Alan Wake which she has been hinting at for months.

Can you suggest any other games that are similar?

  • Any advice on an INSANELY sore back?

My back is killing me again. I have a job that involves moving over 200kg (about 450lb) of luggage through a narrow doorway every day, making it impossible to lift with my legs.

I am also slightly overweight, which doesn't exactly help the problem...

My paralumbar muscles (the muscles on either side of my spine) take most of the abuse and occasionally give me grief, much like today.

I've been to a GP and they prescribe the same painkillers (Solpadol and Dicloflex) which temporarily fix the problem.

Are there any exercises or stretches or anything that I can do to help this situation?
