Whoa. Been awhile since I've been on here. Anyways, my name is Ashley. I'm 18. I am an atheist and am full of other "crazy" ideas and opinions like that. While the Myers-Briggs personality test is not neccessarily an accurate or consistent way to assess personality. It does should some light on a person, if only in a small way. So I shall tell you I am an INTP.

  • How much vision correction is -2.75 in the worse eye and -2.50 in the better?

I want to go into the police force when I'm old enough but the department I'm interested in requires that vision be 20/200 uncorrected correctable with the aid of glasses. Do I meet that requirement? If I do not, what kinds of vision corrective surgery does the police force allow? How much an average do each of those surgeries cost?

  • Why don't christian fundies have a problem with cell theory?

If the issue is that they don't want kids to be taught something because it is not proven to be absolute fact is one thing. But it's quite another thing to pick and choose what theories you want.

(Though I will admit it seems to be partly because those christians seem to not understand what theory mean.)

  • How do this bible quotes fit a just and benevolent god?

    "Stone disobedient children" (Deuteronomy 21:18-21)

1 Timothy 2:15 says only women who have children will be spared hell

Men are worth more than women - Leviticus 27:1-7

Men aren't allowed to trim their beards or shave their heads (Leviticus 21:5)

"Censuses are immoral - and God killed 70,000 innocent counted Jews to punish David for counting them... "And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel, And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it. . . . And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel. . . . So the Lord sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men" (1 Chronicles 21:1-14).

Prostitution is punished by burning the woman alive according to Leviticus 21:9

BQ:I'm aware that some of you on R and S not only believe this god s benevolent but that his word should be taken literally. Yet I have yet to see in literalists advocating these quotes be obeyed. Explain.

  • Questioning my Asperger's diagnosis?

I was diagnosed with Asperger's when I was 5 years old. I am now 18.Part of the reason I question this was because I had sleep issues that weren't addressed at all at the time. Which might have affected how I behaved as a five year old. I've been looking at the symptoms and reading a book with a pretty accurate portrayal of a kid with aspergers. I do see shades of myself in there, but i don't think I make the mark. For one thing, I'm too high functioning. I've blended in too well. One wouldn't guess there's anything wrong with me except maybe a slightly quirky personality. Here's a list of symptoms I recall about the symptoms and whether I match them. Please only give an opinion if you know a little bit about Asperger's.

Most kids with Asperger's tend to be very organized and even may end up also being diagnosed with OCD. I'm so messy and unorganized it's ridiculous.

I am capable of feeling empathy, maybe even more than most people. This is not consistent with Aspergers.

I may not have much of a concept of social cues when I was young, but I've grown to understand them well enough. One wouldn't see any gap in understanding from my behavior.

I do have an extensive memory on a few subjects. I have been referred to as a human encyclopedia and dictionary. However, when someone is not interested in hearing a lecture, I don't feel the need to finish most of the time like many Aspies.

I have no issues understanding figurative language, I may have had issues understanding figurative language when I was five but I don't anymore.

I avoided eye contact when I was a kid, the main reason I find this particular symptom problematic is because most Aspies struggle to do this their whole lives. Yet I managed to be able to do it by 6th grade (albeit uncomfortably) and rarely feel discomfort by doing so anymore.

I do have the terrible hand-eye coordination that is typical.

I don't arm flap like most do, however I do move my feet constantly.

And there is probably others. But I'm not even on medication anymore (not that the medication did anything for me. It was probably that particular medication and the way the doctor handled it that caused it not to be of any use to me. However, if I don't have Asperger, well that would explain it as well.)

Show me evidence of God's existence without referencing the bible. Also no personal stories of "I ran around outside for five minutes without a shirt on in twenty degree weather. How did I survive? Miracle." So no personal anecdotes and no bible quotes, ready....set....GO!

  • When I was a kid...(Christians)?

When I was a kid and in church the pastor told us that thinking bad thoughts about someone is the sin of murder? Do many theists actually believe this? I've heard this one repeated a lot by Christians in real life but not on here. So I wanted to get the Christian opinion.

Does anyone else hit the thumbs down button whenever they see an answer that is five times long than all the other answers, shows abuse of the enter key, and makes you scroll down quite a bit just to see what others have to say in the spirituality and religion section?

  • Atheists, please name things you have done for the benefit of others?

I saw an answer posted by a religious person claiming that atheists don't do things for the benefit of others. I wanted to give atheists an opportunity to talk about things they have done for the benefit of others without the influence of religion. For example, as an atheist myself, I donate clothes and food to homeless shelters. I also cook for them and talk to the children there a few times a year.

  • Isn't it a little worrisome that...?

Isn't it a little troubling that some theists believe that without religion one would have no morals at all? I think anyone who is only stopped from doing things that hurt other by the idea of eternal damnation is a frightening person indeed. Notice how they never say few moral, but none. As in rape, murder, and the more extreme amoral actions are suddenly on the table once god is no longer holding them back? Why would anyone believe this? If god was the only thing that stopped people from doing amoral things then we would probably be hearing a LOT more on the news abut atheists.

  • Help me understand this dream...?

Ok, so I'm in my room lying on my bed and suddenly I hear this crash so I walk over to the next room (which is empty except a door to the outside and a desk). I look at the door and through its window i see flashing orange cat eyes. I lock the door, afraid for some reason (though I normally like cats). I lie back down in my room, then I hear more noises so I put the desk in front of the door, and see the cat's eyes are now flashing green. I sit up in my bed, but this time I am not relaxed, I somehow know the cat is going to break through the door and surely enough I hear the crashing of glass to the floor and claws. The cat walks into my room but instead of attacking it rubs up against me and asks for affection, so I pet it. Then suddenly, dozens of cats break through and barge into my room and start fighting eachother. I manage to shoo out the other cats but for some reason I let the first cat stay. Then out of nowhere every faucet in the house starts running, slowly. The water is freezing but there it is only up to my ankles, I try to turn off some of the faucets but the water starts running faster and faster and getting colder as well. I run down to check on the cat and it's on my dresser, howling at the water, moments before the cat ends up drowning.

  • I want to do something to help prevent suicide at my school and...?

This girl at my school committed suicide over the weekend and everyone is all depressed about it. Tomorrow I want to wear a sign with a good line about suicide prevention and then I'm gonna write the National Adolescent Suicide Hotline number underneath it but I don't know what line I want to use and I'm afraid that wearing the sign will somehow offend someone and I don't want to do that. Any suggestions?
