Okay, so I know this girl who is a friend of mine but I have burning crush on. She and I met a couple of years back but didn't start talking until 9 months ago. She would hit me up late at night through DMs, initiate conversations, compliment my eyes, admire my experimental music that I would often publish on social media. But she had a bf. This bothered me, I let her go, and moved on. We did have some small convos scattered throughout the year but I hardly felt anything. 3 months ago, I found out she's single. I made the first move. Hung out twice. First time was very awkward (she's very shy), second time was perfect, I asked her out on a date. She said "Maybe". Lost confidence, we still talked but I tapered her off but I saw no chance. 1 week ago she found out I'm moving away, she hits me up again, this time super curious about me, a lot more invested than before. Says she wants to buy me the perfect parting gifts, and is putting a lot of effort into an ideal hangout with me. I insist on buying her stuff too because I value her, she says that spending time with me and talking to me as all she truly wants and that she only expects in return is my friendship.

Now we know that the Old World was filled with the Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, and Asian Dynasties and we're always so astounded by their discoveries and changes in agriculture, weaponry, architecture, religion/philosophies, engineering, and culture. They're so rich in those that it's ridiculous but the Western world was seen as held-back and sort of barbaric, especially in pre-Columbian times.

People were so philosophically and culturally sophisticated in the Renaissance while at the time in the New World, the indigenous people were still wearing palm skirts, wearing animal skins, sacrificing people to their holy "gods".

What made these two different civilizations so different that they progressed even more different?

For the past year I've come across a diet called "The Alkaline Diet" which consists of a wide spectrum of healthy vegetarian/fruit foods that apparently contain a pH of 8 or above which according to many people is the healthiest form of dieting. Most of these foods are like apples, pears, oranges (I think), kiwis, etc.

It's really interesting, then I came across a video on YouTube where you can test the pH of your drinking water and the water of bottled water which the narrator tests the pH of many brands; some acidic, few borderline-neutral, and very few are alkaline (Fiji Water). I was immediately hooked because I love drinking pure water since it flushes out your body from impurities and obviously hydrates you and your entire bodily system, not to mention that accordingly alkaline water increases the absorption of vital nutrients like Calcium and some other ones. I'm a growing teenager and I need augmented nutrients.

Anyways, I've seen people saying that it's a "hoax" that it's not real, I actually asked a question a couple of days ago on this site of what would be a good pH indicator and a person said that the alkaline diet is "bullsh*t".

Not sure what to think anymore, is the alkaline diet real and worth it? Please provide educated and well-researched answers for I am one who needs health/diet-related guidance.

So a while back I once saw a video on YouTube about alkaline water and its health benefits and that an alkaline diet consists of foods and refreshments with a pH higher than 7 or 8. Unfortunately, I can't really find the video but the narrator tests like 6 brands of bottled water like Fiji and some other ones and he uses Iodine to mix a few fluid ounces of the bottled water in a tiny tube and it shows a color and he compares the color to a chart of colors in the "pH spectrum", like if the solution is red or yellow it is somewhat acidic and the bluer and more purple it becomes, it's alkaline.

You see, I'm not sure where to purchase Iodine to indicate the pH of the water of my house, in fact Iodine seems somewhat of a foreign chemical to me, especially since there may be many type of Iodine.

Where can I find an accurate pH indicator that is cheap, and conveniently accessible?

Hi, so this past May (I just finished my sophomore year) my high school consular encouraged me and many others to apply for a regional science internship and I was required to write an essay and provide a lot of information.Anyways I just realized that their response to my application was a no. I'm really disappointed, I don't really know what to do. I guess I could ask for a job at a Texan supermarket that's called H-E-B but I don't know if that looks good on a resume.

I looked up so much for that internship, in fact it was an internship on Aerospace engineering or Neuroscience Epilepsy Research and I was rejected.

I guess I could keep looking for other science-related internships, what would look a lot better on a resume if I were to apply to college, a paid job at a supermarket chain or an internship?

I'm 16 years old and I'm going off to 11th grade. I love computers and the entire concept of software engineering and programming gives me a kick! I love it! However I don't really know anything about it, I was hoping I'd learn everything about it in the college I want to go to (UT Austin).

You see, I have a friend and me and her went to a bookstore, she also wants to be a programmer, she was going crazy at so many books on programming like JAVA, C++, and Python! I don't know what that is, and she told me that "I'm not at a good start". I'm scared that that might be true.

So I baptized as a Roman Catholic as an infant, and I'm not really religious. I believe that God is real, and that Jesus Christ is/was God's son. However, I don't really follow the Bible. From what I've heard and seen, the Bible is pretty messed up, especially in Abrahamic religions like Islam where in Shariah Law it states that a woman must be stoned to death because she was raped. I think that as pretty messed up. Also in the Old Testament (I think) where it says that homosexuality is a sin (I do not think homosexuality is a bad thing nor do I think is a sin.)

Basically, I don't follow any holy books. They are usually very primitive and messed up! So that's why I more rely on the teachings of Jesus.

Is there any denomination or Faith which strong relies on the teachings of Jesus Christ and not entirely The Bible or any holy book in which I can belong to?

Hi, I'm a 16 year old male, about 5 foot 8 or so, and also around 140 lbs, and I love exercising. It's so fun and healthy but at the same time strenuous and disciplining for an individual like myself. In the summer of 2013, I worked out a lot, in fact I did a lot of weight training. The most I could curl was 30 lbs (I'm a wuss, I know but I love development),and I did some other weight-related exercises. Unfortunately, around September, I stopped going to the gym because I knew I would get busy with school work and that would make me lazier and stressed. A few months later, around December or January I returned to the gym I was going to regularly and it was fun but a few days afterwards I got some bad lactic acid in my biceps and triceps AND IT HURT LIKE A B*TCH! Yeah, so I stopped going for about 2 weeks and I got back at the gym and I didn't get any lactic acid any more.

Now that Summer Vacation is so close that I can taste it, I am getting very excited to work out my muscles again! However, I want to be careful to not get hurt with lactic acid in my muscles.

What can I do to prevent lactic acid burns? If I do get burned, how do I treat it?

Alright, so I have a 2 month old kitten, he's been living with my family for about a month already, and he's very hyperactive, or at least very naughty.

Lately, I've been wiggling my fingers at him to make jumps and do the cool aerobic tricks cats do. In fact, sometimes when I wiggle my fingers at my kitten close to his face, his eyes go cross-eyed (that's normal, right? Everybody's eyes go cross-eyed when some thing is close to their eyes.) But, my sister overreactingly claims that he's been becoming cross-eyed because of me wiggling my fingers near the kitten's face several times a week, but I don't do it to purposely MAKE HIM CROSS-EYED, I only wiggle them so he can follow my fingers and try to catch them.

My main concern is, can my kitten eventually become cross-eyed if I sometimes place my fingers near his face?

Hi, so I recently informed my father that our Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 was going to expire in a few days (He's usually in charge with handling things financially, especially with Antiviruses).

So he recently purchased Kaspersky Internet Security 2014, he renewed his licence for the program and I downloaded on my laptop. I did the steps that I told me to do, just like every single process when installing a program, however what I found very unusual was that the installation process took a very long time, around 40 minutes all-together.

Anyways, I was informed that I needed to restart my computer to completely install the new Internet Security program, and I did, but what really confused me was that it still kept saying that in a few days the licence was going to expire, or more specifically "3 days remaining", meaning it doesn't appear that it was renewed.

My father clearly paid more than $50 for the renewal and I'm really pissed off of why this is happening.

What can I do to fix this?

Okay, so for the past 2 years I've found out what the Deep Web is, it makes up 96% of the entire internet where a bunch of illegal stuff are done like drugs and other immoral stuff.

Lately, during more recent research I've been seeing stuff where people sell themselves to be eaten (fetish), or forums where they tell their really gross experiences with bugchasings (deliberately catching HIV/AIDS), in fact I read a screenshot of a guy who found it sexually arousing to have both HIV blood and semen injected into his anus (GROTESQUE). Why are there people who approve and distribute child pornography?

Also, I was reading an article including a variety of dark communities where some people from 4chan troll Tribute Pages of teenagers who have killed themselves or have died in some way where people post pictures of gore, also in some SubReddits; people like posting pictures of dead and/or mutilated children, or aborted fetuses.

I've seen plenty of pictures of mutliated genitalia or people cutting/slicing their penises or putting needles through their vaginas.

What the hell is wrong with these people? How can one have the privilege of having contact to the internet and the same time being so mentally ill? How must have their childhoods been for them to be so messed up today?

Hi, my friend has Fruity Loops on his Windows tablet, and I just read a comment on YouTube that Fruity Loops is just as good as Logic Pro and I really want to make music. I'm really into the indie scene with Lo-Fi and Chillwave, however, I'm also into synthy ambient music like M83 and Owl City.

I have a Windows 7 Toshiba, there has been a problem lately with the powering-off setting on my computer. Since I was given this computer, every time I just intentionally gently pushed the power button on my laptop, it would hibernate, meaning that the screen turns off but if i turn i back on nothing is erased nor closed. But now for the past week, I do the same thing except my computer completely shuts down, all my windows are closed, it doesn't say Resuming Windows anymore; instead it says Staring Windows , I have to wait for my anti-virus to activate again, for my Spotify to auto-log in. However, after like 2 minutes after I turn it on I get a message that Windows has recovered an unexpected shut down or something like that. For a lazy person like me, that's a hassle. I don't know if some of you guys can help me with this problem.

I'm a huge fan of M83, and the works of Adam Young (creator of Owl City), and lately I've been really drawn to Tame Impala. M83 and Tame Impala have one unique thing in common, they're vintage/analog synths, and Adam Young uses a lot of fuzzy and electronic synths. Would the MicroKorg be an exceptional synth to make the type M83, Tame Impala, and Adam Young uses or at least something similar?

Several years ago, like in 2005 I went to a blockbuster or a Holleywood video store and I picked up a movie with my family. It was a horror movie. The cover had a character in a pile of bones or something and was holding a doll, it was somewhat obscure. and the beginning of the movie is like a bunch of kids driving to some house and it's like they're designing a video game or something idk this was when i was like 6 or 7

Usually, those types of comments turn out to be one of the Top Comments. Why? Why do people "thumbs up" those comments?
