  • 1956 Chevy 265 Casting numbers?

Ok through some research i have found that I have a 1956 Chevrolet 265 V8 (block casting is 3720991) and that it was cast March 28 1956 (Date code is C286) However the pad located on the front of the passenger side engine has eluded me the casting # stamped into the pad is 03943 ii F56F I did lower case on the i's so people wouldn't assume they were 1's they are stamped as Capitol I This block DOES have an oil filter mount which is curious as all the info references these blocks as having NO oil filter mount UNLESS it is a Corvette Engine. My plans for the engine are to torch the inner guts out and buitld a bckayard display piece. IF This is a 1956 Corvette engine I do NOT want to do that, If it is a standard car or truck engine so be it the blue flame is on I also have the heads They are cast as 3837064 which dates them as 56-62 265 Heads. i am a Ford guy and really couldn't care less for bowtie junk but have respect for the Corvette due to national history concerns. If someone could PLEASE tell me what the 03943IIF56F means I would appreciate it if not this engine is getting the Blue torch on Saturday possible Vette engine or not.

  • What do you think about GM's New financial dealings?

Recently GM announced it will invest almost $300 Million dollars into China--Remember this is a company that is being run wholely on our US paid tax dollars. the 300 million will go towards creating jobs for the Chinese by opening up vehicle plants. these vehicles will mainly be sold in china, however they are expected to eventually be sold worldwide through GMs network. Just curious as to how everyone feels about their hard earned tax dollars being invested to create jobs in China.

  • Obama needs to be impeached--Who's with me?

I sure as hell didn't vote for my government to change by spending 100% more money than it already was. Did you???--SERIOUSLY The last president went on vacations to his private ranch and camp david not off galavanting around the world mother in law in tow all at the expense of American Taxpayers. He's staying at a private resort that costs $35000 a NIGHT And that doesn't include secret service contracts or mother-in-law-in-tow expenses--Thats right, WE are fronting the bill for his mother in law to galavant around at 35K a night--That's more than most people make in a year--She did it when they went to Europe to. With him in charge we TRULY are heading towards a socialist government. if you are with me get out there with the proper forms get the signatures and get him OUT!!!! We the People need to smarten up and get all the corrupt politicains out they aren't hard to spot they are the ones spending all of our hard earned money to keep business afloat the governnment has bailed Chrysler out 3 times--They should have let them sink 3 strikes and your supposed to be out Its as simple as Voting for the other person in 1.5 years We The People can put our government back on track by choosing the correct people to be in office! Hopefully it wont' be too screwed up by then. If you dont' feel Obama needs to be impeached just ask yourself: What happens when the government has spent everybody elses money????

  • 4 runner motor swap question?

Ok so everyone knows how big of a POS the 3.0 V6 is. I am looking at a 90 4 runner in good shape that came with said POS motor, I also have a freshly rebuilt 22RE in an 87 that needs alot of work. Speaking from an electrical (not mechanical--the mechanical part is a no-brainer) what all will be required to do the swap? Thanks

  • has anyone noticed a HUGE loss of quality in motor oil?

Recently I just rebuilt the motor in my toyota and used pennzoil in it. The motor now has 20 miles on it and I went to adjust the valves and noticed that the oil now has the consistency of water and when rubbed between my fingers does NOT lubricate as I can feel friction between my fingers. I had a similar experience a few months back with Mobil Clean 5000 after about 500 miles on our intrepid the oil pressure light kept coming on and you could hear a slight knock at idle speeds, I throught it was either main/rod bearings so I was going to pull the pan and check it out, when I drained the oil I noticed that it had lost all consistency and flowed out of the pan like water splashing everywhere and making a huge mess. I Still have had good luck with Castrol and Valvoline but was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and WHAT oil have you had this problem with. With the soaring costs of oil I feel the companies are putting out extremely bad quality to help with their profits.

  • WHY are Haynes and Chiltons books SOOO WORTHLESS--4Runner Fuel pressure?

Ok so I made the HUGE mistake of buying a Haynes to help me out, and the Chiltons I borrowed is JUST as useful when it comes to information. Does anyone know how to check the fuel pressure for a 1987 22RE system?? Both of the books say to check the fuel pressure by unhooking the feed line at the fuel tank and testing pressure at the pump. This is fine if I wanted to know the fuel pressure at the pump, however I need to know what the fuel pressure at the INJECTORS is, if the pressure regulator is bad it wouldn't matter if the pump worked properly or not for pressure as the system would never build pressure at the injectors since it would just flow right back to the tank. So like I asked if you know how to check the fuel pressure at the injectors on an 87 22RE please let me know Thanks.

  • Smaller engine== Less gas used?

WHY do dumb$@!t's always ASSuME that a smaller V6 or I4 will get better fuel economy than a V8?? or that smaller displacement motors get better fuel economy than large displacement motors??? Are people really that stupid that they can't do simple math and figure out a 2.7L I4 that has to rev at 3000 rpm to cruise freeway speeds uses MORE fuel than a 5.0L V8 that only has to turn 1500 RPM to maintain the same speed. I4 and V6 engines are less fuel efficient than a V8 (whos owner is not enjoying the raw power of a V8) If you want a fuel effiecient car I say fuel injected big block V8 with a 3K rev limiter some tall rear end gears in a fairly light car. ALL the power you'd want and the motor would never have to work hard a day in its life.

  • Why don't Christians Celebrate Hanukah??

This may seem like a stupid question if read at only face value. but seriously, Hanukah began 200 years before Christ was born. Jesus celebrated Hanukah as a young Jew. Jews and Christians BOTH use the old testament and follow it as gospel. The main difference between the two religions is bacically Christians believe in the New Testament and that Christ has already been on the Earth. Jews do not believe in the New Testament portion of the bible as they do not believe that the son of God has visited the Earth yet and are still in waiting. Since Hanukah falls under the old testament portion of the Bible and is even talked about in the book of Deuteronomy SOOOO..... Why then do Christians not celebrate it?

  • 91 Cherokee engine ??

I am picking up an immaculate 91 cherokee with a blown 4.0 and am contemplating what to do for the engine. couple quick ?'s. For 91, was Jeep still AMC or had it been purchased out by Chrysler already. Also would it be better off re-building the 4.0 I6 (I have heard they are underpowered and prone to failure) Replacing it with a Ford 302 EFI or swapping in a Chevy 4.3V6. I know V8 swaps (especially 350 chevy's) into these can be a major pain but have also heard that a late 80's early 90's mustang 302 is the easiest to fit in due to the shape of the rear sump oil pan and low profile EFI intake. The jeep is an automatic and havent' been able to find anything for the trans as far as dependability, I've read all the reports about the manual transmissions not being up to par for even a mild 302 but nothing about the auto also an Inexpensive 2-3" lift to clear 31's Thanks

  • Ford C6 2WD to 4WD rebuild?

Does the C6 use the same main casing for the 2WD and 4WD models? Here's my dilemma: I have literally torn the casing in half separating the bellhousing from the section that contains the guts this on my 4X4 tranny. I have a 2WD tranny that is good and looking at it it appears all I would need to do is remove the tailshaft, swap the rear output shafts and install the 4X4's rear backing plate. Is this a feasible swap?

  • 97 F150 Rear end Hopps when I Brake?

The Rear of my truck starts to hop violently when I am braking. It starts Hopping at about 45 MPH and does not stop until I am stopped. If I stop at speeds slower than 40 it does not Hop though. I HAVE already replaced the rear brake shoes and drums , these are brand spankin new and are nto warped or bad in any way. Also I have replaced the front brake pads. I did not have the rotors turned/replaced They don't have any wear and no Lip on the oustide and there is no shimmy in the steering wheel to indicate warped rotors. another thing is when The truck is at slower speeds 15-0 I can feel a slight pulsing on the brake pedal. This hopping is driving me nuts and I'm at a loss, Any ideas????

  • 97 F-150 4.6L #4 Cyl misfire--antifreeze leak?

I have a 97 F-150 with the 4.6. I was getting a trouble code that the #4 cylinder isn't firing. Changed out the spark plug and the wire. problem kept up I knew that everything was working properly but could smell anti-freeze burnoff. I looked at it at night with a flashlight and could see some anti-freeze pooled around the #4 plug wire. I figured it was leaking onto it so this morning I went out to find the antifreeze leak and couldn't find one anywhere. Pulled out the #4 plug wire and the lower boot was drenched with antifreeze? Does this sound like a cracked head or do I need to look for my anti-freeze leak elsewhere. Thanks

  • how many miles?????--Mid 80's TRUCK OWNERS ONLY?

My first truck was an 84 Xtra cab SR5 2WD with the 22RE & Auto. I got roughly 2800 to 4500 Miles PER ENGINE. Yes that is all I got out of any of the 6 engines I put in the truck. Yes I know there is a design flaw in the first couple year 22RE heads that makes them prone to cracking when overheated slightly and replacing the whole engine is cheaper than just the head. SO First Question is How many people have 84/85's with the 22RE (NOT 22R) that are still original and how many miles do you have on them?

Second truck was an 85 Xtra Cab SR5 4WD 22R and 5 speed. This trucks motor ran pretty damn good and not once did I ever have a problem with it, HOWEVER This truck seemed to pop first gear in the tranny every 4-6K miles. I have been told that Yota was experimenting in the mid 80's with several different combinations and had 3- 5 speeds & 2 were junk. Again how many people have this setup and how many original miles? Third Vehicle is a 79 ford with 389K all original no problems??

  • 351C Heads.--Intake?

Does anyone know of an intake that will allow me to use 351C heads on my 351W?? (If you answer you can't cuz ones a big block and ones a small block you're a flaming retard They are BOTH small blocks and the BOSS 302 is essentially a 351W with 351CV heads but a BOSS 302 intake won't work because of deck height differences which would require some really oddball adapters. I'm looking for a FULL intake no adapters required.

  • Aids Vs. Global Warming!!!?

I feel that Global Warming is a non-issue. Mainly because there is a MAJOR killer on the loose in AIDS. Personally I feel AIDS is mother natures answer to alot of our so-called problems, Global overpopulation, Global Warming, Drugs etc... Many are going to ask how does aids have anything to do with global warming but think about it--if you die you won't be driving or buying anything that requires manufacturing. Also with the widespreadness of this epidemic I feel aids is going to kill off more people in the next couple of decades than what are going to be born into this world as families in general are smaller now than a couple decades ago.
