Is 21 the age for *purchasing* alcohol in the United States or drinking it at all? I am attempting to ascertain whether drinking alcohol in the context of the family is culturally simply not the norm or is flat out illegal.

My 8-year-old is just starting to learn to play the recorder, & she would like to learn a simple song to play at our church Christmas social. It doesn't *have* to be Christmasy, though. Any suggestions?

I am substituting oatmeal for bulgur in a recipe because of someone unable to have wheat. The recipe calls for 1 cup bulgar, but also speaks of soaking it. So I am wondering if I should use the same amount of oatmeal, or 1 1/2 cups, or what? Any ideas?

I was told that when pregnant, one should avoid processed meets like hotdogs & bologna because they contain nitrates. If nitrates are harmful for pregnant, should they be avoided in general? Why? What exactly are nitrates? In what way are the harmful?
