  • Anybody here willing to compromise?

Or have a solution to the problems in Washington that we can all agree on?

Seems like all I've read here so far is just a bunch of blame and hate for the 'other' side. A lot like what I see on the news from our PAID, ELECTED, lawmakers.

  • Do tuxedo shoes have to be stiff and shiny?

The shoes that come with the suit are about half a size too big, but they don't make half sizes so I'm wondering what could be worn instead...?

  • SSI or disability for child?

My son survived a head injury at the age of 13. He turned 17 this summer and to qualify for medicaid waiver programs (job coach, independent living training, etc) I'm told he'll need to eligible for medicaid, and also that he's most likely eligible for SSI benefits. While checking out the social security site I saw that he'll most likely be eligible for disability benefits when he turns 18.

My question is: should I go ahead and sign him up now for SSI and get him on Medicaid, or wait till he's 18 and sign him up for disability? Does one pay more than the other? What exactly is the difference in SSI and disability?

  • Not a question...but good for a laugh?

    The South !

    Tennessee

The owner of a golf course was confused about paying an invoice, so he decided to ask his secretary for some mathematical help. He called her into his office and said, 'You graduated from the University of Tennessee and I need some help. If I were to give you $20,000, minus 14%, how much would you take off?'

The secretary thought a moment, and then replied, 'Everything but my earrings.'

    Alabama

A group of Alabama friends went deer hunting and paired off in twos for the day. That night, one of the hunters returned alone, staggering under the weight of an eight-point buck. 'Where's Henry?' the others asked.

'Henry had a stroke of some kind. He's a couple of miles back up the trail,' the successful hunter replied.

'You left Henry laying out there and carried the deer back?' they inquired.

'A tough call,' nodded the hunter. 'But I figured no one is going to steal Henry!'

    Texas

The Sheriff pulled up next to the guy unloading garbage out of his pick-up into the ditch. The Sheriff asked, 'Why are you dumping garbage in the ditch? Don't you see that sign right over your head'. 'Yep', he replied. 'That's why I dumpin it here, cause it says:

    'Fine For Dumping Garbage'.

    Louisiana

A senior at LSU was overheard saying... 'When the end of the world comes, I hope to be in Louisiana .' When asked why, he replied he'd rather be in Louisiana because everything happens in Louisiana 20 years later than in the rest of the civilized world.

    Mississippi

The young man from Mississippi came running into the store and said to his buddy, 'Bubba, somebody just stole your pickup truck from the parking lot!'

Bubba replied, 'Did you see who it was?'

The young man answered, 'I couldn't tell, but I got his license number.'

    Georgia

A Georgia State trooper pulled over a pickup on I- 75. The trooper asked, 'Got any I. D. ?'

    The driver replied, 'Bout whut?'

    North Carolina

A man in North Carolina had a flat tire, pulled off on the side of the road, and proceeded to put a bouquet of flowers in front of the car and one behind it.

Then he got back in the car to wait. A passerby studie d the scene as he drove by and was so curious he turned around and went bac k. He asked the fellow what the problem was.

The man replied, 'I have a flat tire.'

The passerby asked, 'But what's with the flowers?'

The man responded, 'When you break down they tell you to put flares in the front and flares in the back. Hey, it don't make no sense to me neither.'

    And this from South Carolina

'You can say what you want about the South, but I ain't never heard of anyone wanting to retire to the North.

  • My son is 24, wants to move back in?

He got married over the summer and is currently living with his wife's(19) parents.

He also got a workmen's comp settlement recently and instead of getting a place of his own bought a car and several guns.

Is it wrong of me to say sell the guns and get your own place?

  • Why are we still using the electoral voting method?

The Electoral College was established by the founding fathers as a compromise between election of the president by Congress and election by popular vote.

    http://www.archives.gov/federal-register/electoral...

I know those in favor of it think that more populated areas would decide who wins, but don't they anyway , with just one state having as much as 3 times as many votes as a less populated state?

Personally, I'd rather my vote would be counted, and not be lost by a majority vote by my state.

  • How would you vote for this amendment, and why?

    Existing Law:

Two rainy day accounts for the Education Trust Fund, used to prevent proration, or across-the-board budget cuts: the Proration Prevention Account, which works like a savings account, and the Rainy Day Account, which acts like a credit line. The Proration Prevention Account is funded with tax revenues; the Rainy Day Account gives the state the power to borrow money from the $3.2 billion Trust Fund, funded by the sales of drilling rights and oil and gas leases. The state emptied the $440 million Proration Prevention Account to cover revenue shortfalls in the fiscal 2008 budget. The state can currently borrow up to $248 million from the Trust Fund to cover Education Trust Fund shortfalls. The money must be repaid within five years.

    Amendment:

Increase the borrowing limit from $248 million to $437 million

Lengthen repayment to six years for the Education Trust Fund, ten years for the General Fund, both under constitutional mandate

Allow the General Fund to draw up to the equivalent of 10 percent of the previous year's General Fund budget to meet proration

Establish a General Fund Rainy Day Account to protect General Fund services, such as law enforcement, health care, child protective services, and services for seniors from cuts in a struggling economy, without raising taxes.

Give the governor ultimate authority to withdraw money from the Trust Fund to avoid proration.

    Arguments in Favor:

The measure will prevent cuts to educational programs and public education in general

The measure will prevent cuts to state services which would likely lead to less State Troopers

    Arguments in Opposition

The measure would encourage irresponsible budgets

The measure would draw down the money in the Trust Fund

The measure would reduce interest payments from that fund to governments across the state

The measure would break the commitment to protect public money

  • Does anybody know their state Congressmen and representatives?

Article I of the U.S. Constitution states that Congress will consist of two separate houses. A lawmaking body with two houses is called a bicameral legislature. The two houses that make up the U.S. Congress are the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Congress is the primary lawmaking body in the U.S. government. To solve problems, Members of Congress introduce legislative proposals called bills or resolutions. After considering these proposals, Members vote to adopt or to reject them. Members of Congress also review the work of executive agencies to determine if they are following government policy, and may introduce new legislation based on what they discover.

    How are laws passed?

Bills accepted by both houses of Congress and by the President become law. When the President vetoes a bill and returns it to Congress, Congress reviews the reasons for the rejection but may still act to pass the bill. The U.S. Constitution allows Congress to override the President's veto with a two-thirds majority vote of both the House and the Senate.
