  • What happens when a water pump on a car goes out?

I need specific information for a scene in a novel I m writing. Does the car run hot? Does it just stop, or can it be driven on the interstate for awhile? Is the radiator affected, too? What other parts may need replacing? A cost estimate would be great. I can look much of this up on the internet, but I like first-hand experiences for accuracy and authenticity. Thanks so much.

  • Do young woman wear pantyhose with dress shoes, like high heels now?

I am a senior citizen. I don t wear high heels anymore, but I did when I was young. We wore pantyhose with them back then. There were flesh colored pantyhose, black ones, white, navy...all colors. I am writing a short story, and I need to know if a young woman in her 20 s would wear pantyhose with her 4 inch heels, or if she would go bare legged. I see celebs on the Red Carpet without stockings, but I don t know what the trend is among women who still dress up. Another thing, are pantyhose worn for formal occasions? Thanks

  • Why can't I see certain pictures that were posted on an organization's Facebook page?

A comment and some pictures of me were posted on our county's Operation Christmas Child Facebook page. However, I cannot see the pictures. It says Attachment Unavailable. The person who posted the pictures swears they are there and cannot understand why I can't see them. She thought it may be my internet provider, which is Verizon. My sister cannot view them either. She has Cable One, and she says the sees the Attachment Unavailable note. There are other photos on this page that say Attachment Unavailable, although I can see some pictures. Can anyone explain this to me, or tell me what I can do in order to view the photos? Is there something I need to install on my computer?

  • What are some cool basketball shoes that teen boys like?

I used to teach middle school, but I am hopelessly out of touch with the teen culture. I am writing a short story and have several questions. They are:

    1. What are some cool basketball shoes for teen boys? Do they still like LeBron?

    2. If a teen made fun of a peer or teased him/her, would the offending teen be "talkin' smack," "smack talkin," or "throwing shade?" Or something else?

    3. What would a teen say to express his disappointment or dismay with a situation? Would he say "That sucks," "Bummer," or something else?

I would appreciate your help. Authentic dialogue and factual details are important to me.

  • My question has to do with persons of interest or suspects.?

When a person of interest or a suspect in a murder case is asked to come to the police station for further questioning, does he or she travel in their own vehicle, or are they provided with transportation from the police dept.? Information must be accurate. I am writing a murder mystery and police procedure must be factual. Thanks so much.

  • I need to know the approximate circumference of a 10-14 year old boy's wrist.?

I know it sounds odd, but I'll explain. I am doing shoe box gifts for Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of The Samaritan's Purse. The gender/age categories are boy or girl ages 2-4, 5-9, and 10-14.

I've got a couple of boys' gift boxes that need something very small I can tuck in. A friend makes those woven friendship bracelets, and I thought that would be a good little something extra that can fit down into a corner. I've no clue what size to tell her to make. They tie, so that would insure a tighter fit, but I don't want it to fall off the boy's wrist. The gifts are sent to underdeveloped, impoverished countries. I think the children might be thinner than American kids. Can someone help me with just an approximate measurement for an average sized boy? Thanks in advance.

  • What do I do to delete the birth year from my Facebook profile/timeline?

I have found two similar questions asked my previous posters, but think the FB format has been changed since the questions have been asked. I do not see an option for Birth month and date only when I try to edit my profile.

I do not want my birth year to show on the timeline or on the FB calendar. When I worked on the Edit, I changed the year option to "Only Me." The year is shown in parenthesis on the calendar. Does that mean that no one can see the year but me?

  • Is anyone doing a shoe box gift for Operation Christmas Child this year?

This Christian ministry is sponsored by http://www.samaritanspurse.org/what-we-do/operatio...

I've done it only twice - once years ago, and again this year. I started out doing shoe boxes for kids the ages and genders of my own grand children, who are 12, 6, and 3. It was so much fun I ended up doing more! I've completed 5 boxes. (I bought plastic shoe boxes for a dollar each.) I found some really cute things at the dollar stores, Big Lots, and Walmart. I've become quite an expert at fitting lots and lots of things in one small box!

To me, it's a worthwhile charity and will certainly bring smiles to faces of children in impoverished countries around the world. Some have never received a gift for Christmas.

I hope many of you will participate. There is a ton of information on the website for Samaritan's Purse, plus online videos and articles. If you are stuck for ideas, Ii don't mind if you email me so I can share what I've done.

So - will you do it this year? I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

  • How long should a dishwasher cycle run?

I have a Whirlpool Gold Series dishwasher. I never paid attention to how long it takes to run through a cycle because I usually run it at night. I recently enrolled in an energy-saving program through my local electric company. To optimize the energy savings, you are supposed to run major appliances (washer, dryer, dishwasher) from 6:00 a.m. to twelve noon. So I started observing the run time. To run through a complete washing/drying cycle, it takes about 2 and 1/2 hours. This seems excessively long to me. I started the dishwasher at 1:56 p.m. (Weekends, you can use your appliances anytime without incurring the higher rate). It was on the drying cycle at 4:20. I don't know how much time was left. I cut it off and let the dishes air-dry.

Does this normal, to have a dishwasher run that long?

  • What size hat/cap would a boy aged 10-14 wear?

Where would I be able to buy a reasonably priced hat? I am participating in the Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child Program. The participant fills a shoebox with gifts to be sent to underprivileged children in other countries. The participant chooses the gender, and an age category. I figured an older boy might be harder to buy for than toddlers or young children, so I am opting to choose a boy in that age bracket. I've kind of run into problems trying to select gifts. I thought a cap/hat might be good, but I don't know what size to buy. Can anyone help me?

  • How do sports bras generally fit?

I have never worn a sports bra, but I bought a bunch and brought them home to try on. I am not a large cup size, but I am broad around the chest. Most of the ones I tried were too small. One was a soft bra, with shirring on either side of a wide, hook-and-eye front closure. It has wide straps and a scoop neck. It seemed to fit better than the the others, but it kind of flattens me and gives me the "uni-boob" look.

I bought some of the Genie bras but I haven't tried them yet.

Can any of you ladies give me any info about the soft sports bras and how they are supposed to fit? Do you wear them under most everyday clothing, or strictly for sports activities?

  • I have thin, fragile nails that peel and chip. I've tried many, many products, to no avail.?

I've been doing some internet research and have found some "weird" remedies that I am trying. I've dipped my nails in warm, unflavored gelatin, I've massaged them with olive oil and lemon juice, and I've applied vitamin E oil. I am taking a Skin, Hair, and Nails supplement, which contains a major dose of Biotin. I'm using a Sally Hansen growth gel product and Borghese nail strengthener. My nails are starting to look better, but they are still short and chip easily. I've read that cutting up garlic and putting it in with a clear polish or strengthener will help. Same for a crushed up calcium tablet. I don't want to waste my time on "recipes" that do not work, but if there is anything out there that does work, I'm willing to try it. Does anyone know of anything that might help? BTW, commercial products do not seem to work that well for me. I'd be interested to find a "natural" method that is good.

  • What is a "tumblr room?"?

I see this term frequently on Yahoo Answers. Someone will mention a "tumblr room," or something similar. I've seen a few pics of "tumblr rooms," and I believe they were all different. It doesn't seem to be a specific type of room. I don't understand when someone says, "I want a tumblr room," etc. Maybe someone could enlighten me, as I am curious about this term and concept, and I'd like to know more. Thanks in advance.

  • Would rubbing alcohol remove face cream smears from painted furniture?

My bedroom set is painted white, and it's the Pleasant Isle from Broyhill. I've enjoyed the furniture, but the painted finish seems to mar easily.

A few weeks ago I was having a bath renov done, and I moved things from the vanity top to the chest of drawers. I had several opened sample packages of various face creams and lotions. They are the little tear-open envelopes that have only an application or two in each one. Somehow, some cream or lotion smears got on the top of the chest of drawers and left smudges. It did not take the finish off, but I can't remove the cloudy smudges. I tried various cleaning products. I was going to use a Magic Eraser, but my cleaning lady said it would ruin the finish. I thought about Goo Gone, but she said not to use that, either.

Does anyone know of anything I can use to remove the spots without harming the finish on the furniture? I thought about rubbing alcohol, but I'm not sure. The spots are on a very conspicuous place, right on top, and I don't want to make it look worse.

  • Do I need both a Base coat and a Top Coat when doing a home manicure?

They look the same - both clear polish. It seems either could be used as a base coat for color and a top coat to protect the polish. I'm thinking even a clear polish could be used for both base and top coats. In the salon, I don't recall that the manicurist used two different products before and after the color was applied. I think she just had one bottle of something for both.

I want to learn to do a good home manicure. There is plenty of information online, but I was just curious about this particular step.

  • What is a good nail polish for home manicures?

I have thin, fragile nails. I like the look of a natural or light polish, but I've always had trouble with the polish chipping after a few days. This happens with both home and salon manicures. I had a gel manicure at a salon and it lasted over 2 weeks, but the polish was hard to remove and I had to go back to the salon for that. I worry that the acetone is too strong for my fragile nails.

I bought some Revlon Colorstay (supposed to last 11 days). I took it to the salon with me when the gel color was removed and had my own polish applied. So far it's been on 3 days with no chips! Does anyone know of any other good polishes that last without chipping or peeling off?

I have also used lots of those nail strengthening products, from the expensive (Nailene, Nail-Tek, Borghese) to the less expensive. There are probably some new ones I haven't tried. I am also taking a supplement for nails (Bioten, Biotin??) but have just started.

  • How do I determine the square footage of my kitchen?

It is a very small, square kitchen. It is U shaped, with appliances and counters on three sides and the entry door on the other wall. Do I measure just the length and width and multiply those two measurements? Or do I take into account the measurement of all four walls, including the one with the door? I hate to sound so dumb, but I've never done this before. Thanks in advance.

  • I need information about gel nail polish.?

I recently had a gel manicure, and I love it. My thin, fragile nails frequently chip or split. I don't want to wear fake nails, but regular manicures do not last. The polish chips off, even though I'm careful. I had a gel manicure recently, and after a week, my nail polish is still pretty and shiny. The tech said it would last 2-3 weeks. My nails seem to be stronger and growing.

The gel manicure was $30 at Walmart; a regular manicure is $13.

I would like to find a good gel polish for use at home. I found some online that do not require a UV light. I wonder if these polishes are good? Are the kits with the UV light worthwhile?

I also would like to know if the gel polish is more difficult to remove than regular enamel, and if it is harmful to the nails.

    Any information would be helpful.
