  • Can someone confirm the civil wedding legal wording - UK?

I've been reading the wording for our registry office wedding in the UK. There was part of my Dad's ceremony that really upset me as I support same-sex marriages:

"Marriage, according to the law of this country, is the union of one man with one woman, voluntarily entered into, to the exclusion of all others."

Can anyone tell me whether this legally HAS to be included in my marriage? I found it offensive and it really jarred. If so, it looks like I'll have to wait until they change the law in the UK!!

  • Key worker housing advice - does anyone have experience of this?

We are currently renting in Hertfordshire and are very keen to start paying off our own mortgage instead of rent. However, due to the dreaded Credit Crunch, we believe we'd need a much larger deposit to have a chance of getting a mortgage. As I'm a teacher, we are considering the Key Worker "MyChoice HomeBuy" thingy with Lea Valley homes, to give us a leg up and get us on the property ladder. Please does anyone have experience (good or bad) or using this scheme?

  • Should I get a kitten with cerebellar ataxia?

I've been offered a rescue kitten as a companion for a kitten we're getting in 2 weeks. I've been told that she has cerebellar ataxia. I've done a bit of research online but can't find anyone who says how bad it can be, whether it gets worse, and how much extra care/issues are involved. Some websites seem to think it gets worse over the first year of life, to the point of needing to be put down. Does anyone have any experience of this? Can anyone offer advice please?

Have seen it in pubs, schools etc when I was a kid. Is a riddle with a list of numbers and initials, eg.:

    52 Cs in a D

    7 Ds in a W

    And the answers are:

    52 Cards in a Deck

    7 Days in a Week

Anyone got a copy or knows where I can find one?

  • Which charity makes the most money?

I'd like to know which charity in the UK makes the most money (as in gets the most in donations etc). Apparently in Scotland it is the University of Edinburgh, but I haven't been able to find figures for England or the UK as a whole.

Please don't bother guessing, I only want informed answers! Thanks

  • "Varicose vein" in finger?

Recently I had what looked like a varicose vein in the top joint of my left ring-finger. It was quite painful, a bit like when you get a static electric shock off a car, and there was a purple mark which looked rather like a varicose vein. Lasted a good few days, and the area still feels a bit funny and looks slightly purple.

Just looking for reassurance really, don't want to bother the doc if it is just a varocose vein and no trouble, but thought it might be a sign of something else. I'm a 25 year old female in good health.

  • UK: health rights as employee?

just got a new teaching job and have been sent quite a detailed form to fill in about medical history. I have the right to refuse my new employer access to my doctors' records, but this could make them even more suspicious and I'm worried I might be refused the job! I have had quite a lot of time off, for different things, most of which I'm over, and am currently being treated for a couple of different (but possibly related) health issues. Also, some of it is rather sensitive stuff (depression - now over, a digestive problem which has involved some lovely invasive tests, possible cancerous lumps on the jaw). My current employers' lack of sympathy has made me nervous about it!

I won't lie on the form, but I really would rather they didn't go rooting through my records. However, I don't want to refuse them access and look suspicious! Am I just worrying over nothing - are they even likely to check?

Can anyone who works for a county council, especially in HR, please give me a hand?

  • Cambridge, UK: can anyone recommend a dentist please?

I'm looking for an NHS dentist in Cambridge or the surrounding area - I'd be happy to travel a bit to see someone good. At home in the North of England I've been to the same dentist my whole life and have been happy with him, but I need someone down here I can trust! I have tried one dentist here but had a rather scary experience. Can anyone recommend someone good?

  • Where should I go to recover?

I was recently hospitalised with pneumonia, and am recovering slowly. My boyfriend wants to take me away on a weekend break to recover over Easter (6th-9th April). Could anyone suggest a suitable place for a cheap break? He wants "sea air" and sunshine to help me recover! We are in the UK - any ideas??
