  • Household ferret repellent?

Okay, so there are some ferrets/EU Polecats living in our village. Those little turds, who I am otherwise fascinated by, are killing my car. Every time I work nights they climb into the engine and chew up my sparkplug wires. We put a hard casing over the wires after the first time, so now they are chewing on them and ripping them off. Are there any household items that will not harm the critters, but will deter them either by scent or a bad taste that I can safely use in my engine? Also, they never bothered our Opel, but they love our newer Hyundai, do you know what the difference between the cars could be that makes the Hyundai so susceptible/palatable to their gnawing addiction? Thank you all very much :)

  • Christmas songs at the Macaroni Grill?

So, I just became the official singer for our new Macaroni Grill. It says in the training book that religious songs are not appropriate, but then it goes on to list appropriate Christmas songs like 'O Come all Ye Faithful' 'Silent Night' 'Joy to the World' and 'Angels We Have Heard on High'. My question is what do I do? I must also note that I find it inappropriate to put one religion/religious holiday above all the others in a public place. My bosses want me to sing the religious Christmas songs, I am thinking based on music style more than their individual religious preferences (hoping at least), are there also songs for other holidays so that I can at least try to be fair to all religions? (All I have ever heard was the dreidel (sp?) song, not exactly suited for a classical/opera sound.) I'd love some suggestions. Thank you.

  • Song title or Artist name?

So I was up in Amsterdam and kept hearing a song that was up-beat, reminiscent of Amy Winehouse in parts and I think the lyrics said "It's the thing about me... it's the ti-i-ime, time to set the world on fire..." Sorry I'm a bit foggy on details, but you know, it was Amsterdam. The song is just stuck in my head. Oh, and I think it is a newer song, like within the past year or so.

Thanks for any helpful suggestions :)

  • Reading early and going to American Public Schools?

My son is 4 and reads in English better than many 7-8 year old children. He goes to German Kindergarten at the moment and has issues with the other kids being "more stupid" than he is. As in they can't count past 10 in German, they don't know all the colors in English and German, and they don't know the specific names for most animals, trucks, dinosaurs, etc. The issues range from minor arguments and refusal to play together up to actual physical confrontation.

He is in German Kindergarten because he is too young for the American... now if we have to move back to the US does anyone know if there are ways to test into a grade or be placed into a higher grade for just one or two subjects? Is this kind of stuff state by state or is it national? Or what kind of a google search can I do to find all this info?

Thanks for your help, we don't yet know how much longer we have in Germany, so it's kind of nerve wracking with a child who is advanced, but not yet school aged.

  • What should/can I do about someone posting pics of my kids on their myspace pg without my permission?

The person is someone who I haven't talked to in over a year because I am tired of all the verbal abuse and insults flung at my husband and children. The person is my biological mother. I don't want her anywhere near my children in anyway. She copied the pics of my kids from my Father's Myspace page and is posting them on hers without my permission and though it may be childish of me to even care, they are my kids. She has a questionable friend's list and I don't want those people looking at my kids either, (my page and pics are private, I post them for my dad to see and other family because I live overseas.)

Anyhow, if there is a way to get her to take the pics off her page without a huge telephone or email confrontation that would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance.

  • Who were the people in the Senate that disrespected the Hindu prayer?

I just saw a clip from CNN where three people blurted out, in the middle of a Hindu prayer, some very rude, obviously Christian, remarks. I want to know who they were and if they are actual repressentatives of the Senate? They are an embarassment to America that they can't hold their peace for only a matter of moments. Just horrible! So, anyone know who they were? Thanks :)

  • Breast milk production?

I'm 13 weeks pregnant with my second child. Within a few hours of giving birth to my first child I had full blown milk and had gone from a D to a DDD cup (bra). Anyhow, the doctor didn't look at my chart or me and told me to pump every 2 hours, assuming that I was having trouble producing milk. Well, I produced even more than I ought to have. I am scared this will happen again. It was very painful, I couldn't actually breast feed, I couldn't put on the breastshields not because of pain but that I wasn't physically able to. It was horrible. Enough background info, onto my questions:

Is there a way to avoid early colostrum production in pregnancy, even old wives' tales (I started leaking at 5 months last time)? Is there a way to reduce the amount of milk you produce without stopping the milk production completely? Any suggestions on reducing the pain?

I just want to be prepared this go round, thank you.

  • Unbiased, honest information on the Candidates?

I keep looking for info on the candidates that are presidential hopefuls and I can't find much. Their sites are all fluff and seem to only state what the voters want to hear. The opposite sides' veiws on other individuals are all hate speech of sorts and its gotten quite frustrating.

So, do you know of any good places I can find reliable information about what each candidate stands for? Or are honesty and unbiased opinions too much to ask for in regards to the politics of the USA?

Thanks for your help ahead of time.

  • How do you think these names will go over in the US?

I'm having a baby in January 2008. I don't know if I will live in the US anytime soon or stay in a European country. My 21 years experience living in America gives me pause and is the root of my question.

For a girl I should like Oletha Morvudd and for a boy Torsten Davydd. Now, the middle names are both Welsh because my husband's family is a mixture of Welsh and Irish. The first names are Danish and German because of my family. But of the first names, what kind of harrassment or troubles with pronounciation do you think may occur in the US? By the way, Oletha (DK) is said like Oleta (GB) I do have other choices, but I really like these. Thank you in advanced for your constructive opinions.

  • Any tips for making good pie crusts?

I am generally a talented cook and have no problems with recipies and cooking/baking without, but pie crusts and I don't seem to get along. They range from being tasteless to hard/stale, unless we are talking of dinner-pies such as Chicken, Ham, and Leek Pie. How can I get a nice flakey, non-bland pie crust that will taste good used for a fruit-pie?

  • How to make home-made corn tortillas?

Does anyone either know how to make them or know a decent website in English that can tell me how to make them? I also need a good recipie for the red Enchilada sauce, the ones I've found on the interent taste more like spaghetti sauce or salsa than what my friend's mom (who was from Mexico) used to make.

  • What's that song?

I just heard the end of a song that sounds new and R&B like. Its sang by some chick. The basic plot of the song is that she cheats on her boyfriend and he knows about it. She feels guilty and mentions in the song about how she doesn't want to be a murderer because its killing him everytime she goes out. Who sings this song and/or what is the song name? Thanks!

  • Blackberries and Cats?

So, one of my cats escaped into the celler this morning and came back up a couple hours later with a blackberry to play with. (I was picking blackberries in the garden this morning for breakfast and forgot them downstairs). About ten minutes later he decided to vomit on my carpet. I was wondering if blackberries are poisonous to cats or if you think he may have eaten something else while he was in the cellar?

  • Why is there pain is child birth?

Some cultures would have you believe that because of the fault of one woman, Eve, all women must suffer discomfort and pain in child birth. Other people believe that it is based on how humans have evolved. I would like to know what you think and why? Also, if you believe the first is true, then why do some animals also suffer discomfort when bearing their young? And what do you think of the God who has judged all women based on the faults of one? I think if people were as this God is said to be, then all Germans would be still blamed for what one evil man, Hitler, did. As would all Americans based on what the first Americans did to the natives... so I'd like your opinions. Thanks.

  • What kind of job opportunities are out there for someone with a BA in Biology?

  • What's wrong with being a Jew?

I keep seeing in the media and history books that a good amount of people don't like Jewish people. Can anyone tell me why or where it stems from? I've never met a Jewish person who wasn't nice and respectful, so I'm a little confused.

I prefer to dislike individuals based on their attitudes and lack of respect rather than their religion or race.

Oh, and do people still think that Jewish people killed Jesus? (That would be crazy since nowhere is it proven or even suggested that I've seen.)

  • List of Holy Books?

I'd like a list of every semi-major religion and what the name of their books are? Also, do the Catholics read a different bible than the average Protestant? Secondly, is there anyway to get a hold of copies or books which the Catholic church has been holding back or hiding for many generations? I figure it is high time I figure out what I really believe, and the only way to honestly do that, is to study every religion and choose from there. I mean, you can't say that Muslim or Judaism is bad or wrong just because you are Protestant and vice versa. If you know of any accurate books on ancient religions, other than the Greeks and Romans, that would also be helpful. I am of the current opinion that God is the same in every religion, only called by different names and set to different man-made laws, will I still find this true after I read all the other books?

  • Name of a song?

In A&E's version of Pride & Prejudice, the one with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, what is the song that Lizzie sings when she plays for Mr.Darcy's sister? I've looked everywhere and only found the names of the composers of the background music. Thank you for your help!
