  • Nightmare before Christmas 3D, in San Francisco?

Sometimes in October the Metreon in San Francisco shows the Nightmare before Christmas in 3D, but I can't see that they're doing it this year. Why? Is anywhere else showing this movie?

  • Sick of "very long wait" on Netflix. Alternatives?

The first 20 movies in my queue have a "very long wait." I had to wait three months to see Hellboy 2, for goodness sake! This is ridiculous. It's so much better just to go to the Redbox at Safeway and get a brand new movie for $1.07--but doing that ruins the whole point of not having to shower/get dressed/put on makeup/curl hair/drive to Safeway/wait in line/avoid people you know/ETC just to see a flippin movie (don't judge me). Doesn't Netflix know that they are seriously irritating the hoarders/shut ins/black sheep of the community, and that doing so is really never good for anyone?

And when there is a "very long wait," how is it decided exactly WHO gets the next available copy? Is it the person who put it on their queue first, or the person who's been a Netflix member longest and has seniority, or the person with a history of a quick turnover, or you have to know someone at Netflix, or WHAT? What do I have to do to get a copy of The Tudors Season 3 Disc 1?!

What I'm saying is that I need a Netflix alternative that won't make me wait several lunar cycles to watch something. Is Blockbuster online better (in that the wait time isn't so long, or at least cheaper? I hate paying a monthy fee when I didn't even get to see the movies I REALLY want to see, and have to settle for watching a B movie or renting something I've seen long ago)? Is there finally a third option? Do you feel my pain?

  • Childrens book--halloween?

I read this book when I was a kid (20 years ago) and I LOVED it, but my parents' house burned down. Now I don't have the book and would like to find a new copy.

It is a picture book about Halloween in a village. The cover has a hooded face--you can only see a long nose. The cover is a bit creepy.

The story is about Halloween/fall/harvest time in a village. They celebrate, including a pumpkin seed spitting contest. Then this hooded stranger comes to town. Something about how this hooded stranger makes a pumpkin grow enormous and then the vines of the pumpkin get the bad guys. The picture of the pumpkin with a jack o lantern face gripping the bad guys with the green, curling vines is imprinted in my brain, but for the life of my I cannot remember the name of the book! Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thank you.

  • Best place to stay in Anaheim, CA, for a Disneyland Trip, NOT super close to Disneyland?

I'm going to Disneyland in a few weeks with a friend. We have just been horrified by reports on bedbugregistry.com--most if not ALL of the hotels in the immediate vicinity of Disneyland have had RECENT bedbug reports! We are beside ourselves regarding where to stay. Dealing with bedbugs would completely ruin our vacation.

We thought perhaps staying in Anaheim (or neighboring city) a few miles away from Disneyland might help since they would potentially not have the high volume of guests. We are at a loss because we are not familiar with the area, and don't want to jump from the frying pan into the fire. Any recommendations? Thoughts? Experiences?

    Thank you

  • Which Anne Rice book should I start with?

I love to read. I haven't read any Anne Rice before. I was wondering if there is a specific Rice book that is good to start with? I don't want to read anything out of order.

    Thanks!

  • Best Russian literature read?

Every year I read at least one long book. Last year was Atlas Shrugged. This year I am thinking War and Peace, or perhaps something else Russian (and, erm, long). I like Nabokov a lot, of course, but have already read many of his works. Do you have any suggestions?

  • White Noise/Don Delillo Fans--Does this make you angry?!?

    Don Delillo's White Noise: http://books.google.com/books?id=8Rk35qwT1-kC&dq=D...

    http://www.theairbornetoxicevent.com/

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Airborne_Toxic_Ev...

    http://video.google.com/videosearch?hl=en&ei=svoSS...

This band ripped off Don Delillo's White Noise. I know they say that imitation is the best form of flattery, but this is not imitation, this is out right copying! Can't people come up with their OWN ideas/names/titles/art?

White Noise is my favorite book of all time, and I am beyond exasperated that this nondescript band has highjacked his greatness! The band has wormed into Delillo's limelight and is sucking away his self-made genius like a parasite. At best they are hoping for fame/status by association. Here's an idea: write something GENIUS *YOURSELF* so you can be mentioned with Don Delillo's name!

  • Passport expiration date requirement for entering and exiting China?

I know they have a six month requirement (your passport must be valid for at least six months). My question is whether that is 6 months from the date you ENTER the country (China), or 6 months from the date you are scheduled to EXIT the country (China)? Where can I find this information?

  • Why are there so few pink cell phones? WHY?

Lookit, it's impossible to get a pink cell phone these days, particularly a GOOD cell phone. What I really want is the cherry blossom razr back.... why did it have to go away?

And now they don't even have a pink iPhone. Why? Many, many girls would love to have a pink iPhone.

I have AT&T Mobility because I had hoped that EVENTUALLY there would be a pink iPhone for me. I have settled with the mediocre SonyEricsson walkman. I called ATT and they SWORE they would NEVER have it in pink... well two months later, there it was, in pink. They stole my idea. I'm so mad.

Anyway, please, please people, start making all your phones in several shades of pink: cotton candy, hot pink, magenta.... I don't know why all the phones seem to be designed for men when we all know that it is WOMEN who talk on the phone!

    Make pink phones! Please!

Does anyone else have this problem? Do you know where I can get pink phones?

  • Painting Wood Trim (Exterior) for Dummies... please adise!?

My one-story house has not been painted for at least 20 years. The stucco still looks fine, but the wooden trim is terrible---the paint is cracked, peeling, or gone in some areas. A little sanding is NOT going to cut it!

I want to a step-by-step how-to for what I should do, links to recommended products, costs associated with these products, etc--anything you can provide is fantastic!

I want to paint the trim a whitish color, as it was before.

Basically I don't know what I'm doing at all. I went to the paint shop and all I got was some Mike N Ikes from the gumball machine and then I had to go away.

I need an order of operations here. I know I have to sand, but what do I do first? How much is a power-hand-sander-thing? I do NOT have the energy to use just sandpaper. A better title for this would be Painting Exterior Wood Trim for Lethargic, Practically-Broke Dummies.

I know I have to sand, wash, caulk, prime/protect, paint... and what else? in what order?

Also, any advice? Even if it's only a DO NOT DO list would be helpful.

    Thank you for your suggestions.

  • Canterbury Tales--Original and Modern text side by side?

Do you know of a publication of The Canterbury Tales with the original text (preferably annotated) on one column and a modern translation in the next column? I'm looking for the piece in its entirety. All I can find is a few of the tales like this. I would like the book, not an online publication. Thanks.

  • Looking for an excellent FAX machine--the one I have is driving me bonkers?

I'm ready to have a full-on Office Space-type violent outburst on my office's FAX machine. It is a Canon Super G3 faxphone L80, and its tempestuous nature is sucking my will to live.

    This machine is extremely sensitive.

    1. It can only hold about 15 pages in the paper tray, which is not nearly enough.

    2. It constantly takes several pages instead of one, both when you are sending and receiving a message, which causes the machine to jam and stop working all together.

    3. While the machine is jammed, which is 5-10 times per day, not all the messages that are being sent to us "que" up, waiting for the jam to be fixed--only SOME que up. We are not receiving all of our faxes and have no idea which faxes we never received.

    4. The receipts are not accurate. If a the receipt says 3 pages went through, that could mean anything--NO pages went through, only one page went through, etc.

    5. Faxes to and from Asia (our office is in the San Francisco bay area) are even more unreliable. Only a small percentage of the faxes we send overseas make it over.

I am looking for a fax machine that can hold a ream of paper (at least), handle constant messages (both incoming and outgoing) including overseas destinations, will not jam or take multiple pages, will que the messages in the order they were received and print them accordingly, will give accurate receipts when sending a fax, and will NOT make any super annoying beeping noises under any circumstances!

Does such a machine exist? Please suggest any machines that you think would be suitable. I appreciate your help.

  • What does "Elementarian" mean?

I have seen it as a job title for someone at an international school. I can't find it in the dictionary, and a general google search doesn't come up with anything seemingly relevant. Has anyone heard of "elementarian"? Is this a made-up job title?

  • Hardy flower/plant suggestions for zone 9 garden (for the non-greenthumbed)?

I live in gardening zone 9 (whatever that means!) in the San Francisco bay area. I have made several attempts to plant flowers in my front yard, but most of them die and it's a huge disappointment to me, not to mention my neighbors.

The only plants I have not managed to murger are: mexican sage, shasta daisies, a rosemary bush, and a geranium.

I am looking for greenery that is simple to maintain and will not die. I'm okay with having the same plant/flower everywhere as long as it looks nice and alive.

I have all the tools and some soil. My budget for flowers is about $50 or so. Any recommendations?

    Thank you.

  • Approximate cost for painting the outside trim on my house...?

I have a one story, 3 bed 2 bath house that I think is approximately 1,400 sq feet. It is stucco with wood trim. The paint on the wood trim is peeling and chipping off, and the wood has small cracks everywhere. The stucco looks fine, so I really only need to repaint/repair the trim (the small porch, around the windows, etc.).

I have no experience with painting or wood working.

Should I do this myself? What are the steps I should take for a thorough, long-lasting, clean and tidy effect on the trim?

Should I hire professionals? What are the benefits of having it done professionally, and what can I expect to pay? I live in the bay area of California.

I am looking for the most reasonable and feasible way to go about handling this. I don't have a lot of extra cash, but would like to take care of this.

Thank you for all your help.

  • Question(s) about how to handle my barking Doberman while I'm away...?

My doberman is about 2 years old and very spirited. Like all the dogs in our neighborhood, he barks everyday. For the sake of my neighbors, I'd like to significantly decrease my dog's barking, especially when I'm not at home to shush him. I have researched the citronella collar, but I don't think that would work for my dog; my dog ate the "yucky no lick" bottle of spray I bought for the furniture, so I don't think the citronella would deter him much, if at all.

I have heard about an electric collar that gives the dog a zap when he barks. I am worried that this might scare or hurt him unnecessarily. Does anyone have any advice or experience with this, especially for a larger dog?

Also, when he is in the back yard and I'm away, he is on a long chain. Would the chain and metal collar it's attached to work as conduits, causing all sorts of sparky havoc?

I am also (perhaps paranoid, yet still) afraid of someone poisoning him while I'm away. He will eat anything.

    Any advise?

  • I want to paint the inside of my house, but there is a crack in the wall from an earthquake...?

The interior of my house badly needs painting--I have never painted before but would like to do it myself. There are some long, skinny cracks on the walls from earthquakes. What should I put inside these cracks so that they are less noticeable when I paint over them? What about small holes in the wall where nails were pounded in to hold up pictures that I might not want to put back up? Is painting going to be a painful process that I regret taking on? I am very low-energy.
