  • how come less and less skaters perform the scratch spin at the higher levels?

It looks amazing if done well and adds heaps to a program.

  • Skating hypotheticals?

You're skating in a competition, you're leading after the short program and only need to skate a safe long program to win. You have been practicing your double axel for months now just so you can show it off for your entire family and friends to see but there's a risk you might not land it. Do you go for glory by taking the risk knowing that a failed double axel will no doubt ruin your chance of winning or play it safe with a simpler jump and just skate an average program that you wouldn't be proud of but should be enough to win??

Hypothetical B: You're the mother of a 17 yr old skater girl. You love your daughter and have supported her skating. She has done well both academically and in skating comps. She has been accepted to Yale medical school however she indicates to you she will reject that offer so she can persue an international career in skating. You know she is a good skater and a determine one but in your heart you don't believe she is good enough to make it internationally and you know how hard the life of an elite skater is.

What do you do?? Do you try to influence her one way or another??

What factors may affect your decision in the hypothetical? What other informations do you need to make your decision?

Feel free to include your hypotheticals.

  • Had a shoulder dislocation with greater tuberosity fracture.?

I don't feel any shoulder instability and can move freely. Is that an indication there's no labral tear?

  • top of my foot numb after ankle surgery?

I've had an open reduction internal fixation surgery for a broken fibular about 4 weeks ago. The top of my foot feels numb and there's an area from my ankle to big toe that doesn't have any sensation at the skin. Is it going to get better? if so how long?

  • Weight bearing after surgery for broken fibula?

I had open reduction and internal fixation of a broken fibula 2 weeks ago and saw ortho surgeon today. X-ray films today didn't show up anything remarkable and she still doesn't want me to put any weight on it for another 4 weeks. I haven't had any pain and can actually stand without support. Shouldn't I start at least partial weight bearing if there's no discomfort??

  • are figure skates cheaper in the States or Canada?

I'm heading there in a months and looking to buy new skates. What's a decent boot (reasonably priced) to get. I'm up to lutz jumps and scratch/sit spins. I'm looking for the cheapest suitable boot without paying for the name of the brand. Are they boots made in Canada or US? Will it be wise to buy those made locally.

    THanks.

  • Do you think Figure skating is getting too glitzy/flashy to be called a sport?

Figure skating in the early days, they dress pretty much like gymnast. Simple.

Now even the men are getting more glitzy wearing frilly, sequenced lycra body suit. Do you think that's wrong?

Do you think figure skating is getting too flashy with the dress code? Should people appreciate the atheleticism or the flashy attire?

Explain this to me, why is say ballet, hip-hop, salsa dancing not considered a sport and figure skating is?

  • Why don't we see summersaults in competitive figure skating?

It's technically very difficult so it should be high scoring right? I have only seen it in exhibitions.

  • Are there any advantages or benefits in scoring being able to spin and jump both ways?

I am a low level skater with no particular preference to one way or another. I can practice either way just as easily. Is it a benefit to keep practicing both ways, if it would help with scoring higher marks?

I can get up to a flip and sit/scratch spin on either side. I have days when one side is better than the others.

  • Dilemma, What Should I do?

So I was out and about today and lo and behold found a new pack of cigarettes on the ground minus one. The owner is no where to be found so tis mine.

What should I do with the cigarettes??

I can't throw it away coz' it'll be a waste and it's worth a bit of money. I don't want to give it away to somone else coz' what if these are the smokes that causes them to have cancer?

So I should give them a puff right?
