Taking out the hardware should not be a problem if you have been doing therapy all along. The bone or bones are strong enough to support your effort otherwise the hardware would not be coming out. It is the muscles and ligaments that are in question. If you have been walking and working them then it should not take that much time. Hopefully there will not be a loss of mobility in the ankle but remember that the fibula is a non-weight bearing bone so this should speed things up. The fast response would be in a day or two and perhaps up to two weeks otherwise. Keep working the muscles.
