3 AnswersChemistry1 decade agoHow might one solve Microsoft Windows XP error events 3011 and 3012?
I've already tried lodctr /r, as was suggested on the only actual Microsoft help thread I could find. I've had this problem with my Gateway netbook (model KAV60, the model is also called L-something-*-* (I'll check my BIOS if strictly necessary, but from what I've seen, people have the same problem with other netbooks, or at least a similar problem, though I've yet to see it tied to the error report-- Acers, especially)).
The problem in the M$ thread was discussed in relation to desktops, but in any case I could find mentioned about desktops with the problem, the issue was the power supply unit, and caused the computer to crash completely. My computer freezes, and then if I right-click the cursor freezes as well. No error report is displayed; I identified the error ID through the performance monitor, and found that the error has occurred just before each incident of the freezing. I have a refurbished computer (I'm too po' to get a new one, even a netbook, and I need portability but unlike desktops you cant find netbooks by the side of the road), and I imagine the previous owner sent it in for this reason and the tech guys just ran standard checks for errors and viruses, found none, formatted the drive and reinstalled XP.
It does seem to have "good days" and "bad days," and in one European tech support community online in which several people had the same problem (though no real solution aside from replacement was found, in 107 pages), it was suggested that heat caused it; However, that does not seem to be the problem.
So, any ideas?

12 AnswersCelebrities1 decade agoI finally bought a Koran. How should I read it?
I'm not sure if you're supposed to read it in Arabic or something, but I don't speak Arabic, so I got an English translation. Would the Moslems here please advise me on the best way to read it, or if I should just go from start to finish in a weekend?
I'm Atheist, by the way. But intrigued. I've also read about half of the Tora and half of the Gospels, but lost steam on both because they became a bunch of "begat"s and hate propaganda, so I'm hoping the Koran will prove different.
12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoSo, what do you think about this?

Is it true, or does the gravity of the Earth carry the prayers in an arc to Mecca? I want serious answers to my frivolous question, too, or I will thumbs you down, of course.
1 AnswerReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoSpiritually speaking, who thinks we should move this party to Law & Ethics?
I just took a look, and WOW, that place is hundreds of times cooler than here.
So, since Ethics is a topic that is actually open for debate, and since Atheists and Christians supposedly have differing views on said Ethics, and since most of what we do here is "debate" (have petty verbal squabbles) instead of answer/ask questions, why don't we go to Law & Ethics and actually contribute to something? Just a thought.
Please state your opinion on this and your religious affiliation(s) or if you are Atheist. kthx
2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoLet's get some controversy in here. Let's talk about witchcraft, huh?
Objects of discussion:
1) Aleister Crowley: Was he legit? What was the guy's deal? Antichrist or "man of the world"? Was he a cool guy that ate child hearts and didn't afraid of anything?
2) The so-called "Rede" (and also it's relation to Crowley's Law). "An it harm none, blah blah blah" and all that jazz, versus the Thelemic "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the whatever."
3) Legitimacy of various so-called witchy "religions"--Ranging from Wicca to Thelema to Cabala to, Hell, the rituals of the Golden Dawn and Stella Matutina, for all I care. If you would hold that Hindu is not a legitmate religion, you may not comment. I'd rather you didn't answer at all, actually. I want to hear some actual points made, not "REPENT TO JESUS SINNER!!!" fire and brimstone and so forth. I am an Atheist, so I don't really care about your silly religion or silly witchcraft. It's all the same to me, I just feel like hearing some opinions on an hilarious subject to put me in the right mood when I wake up later and have my weekly hot dog and celebration of the holy Friday.
4) Lastly, if you are Wiccar/Pagan/Asatru/Whatever, share what you like about your culture, tradition, rituals, sexxyfuntimes, "spells," whatever. That stuff is pretty neat.

4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoOkay, so what does R&S think is the story behind Christianity?
Let me expound a bit. I know all about Christianity. I am one of those Atheist folks that was sent to a Christian school in the Bible Belt and was front of the class for divinity. I absorb knowledge, and religion happens to be the thing most people spoke of most of the time where I grew up.
So I know all about Christianity, and learned all about its hilarious origins. But most people don't seem to understand it, or even what it teaches (this including Christians), and everybody here seems to be under the impression that you all know everything and are each and among you immune to fallacy.
So I began to wonder, "What does Y!A R&S think is the story of Christianity?"
And please, no smart*ss Atheist answers about the worship of a Jewish zombie and space-rays and no attacks on Christianity, and no "THE WIZARD DID IT" from you religious folks either. I want to see some solid history, and cut out the bits with magic and sorcery.
Meanwhile, I am posing the same question to /b/. It should be slightly more balanced since it is summertime there, but let's see who will win, shall we? ;)

4 AnswersOther - Internet1 decade agoWhat types of files are these, and how can I open them?
For game modding purposes.
The file types are:
.cam (which I think is a video file, but I don't know how to open)
.zzz (which appears to be an alternative sort of .zip, but which does not make sense)
.glw (Not a clue about this one)
2 AnswersProgramming & Design1 decade agoI have to ask--Especially you FSMers--Have you considered my viewpoint?
I am a Discordian. We worship the goddess Eris, except for when we forget to, except for when we don't for other reasons, like not being Discordians. We think with our Pineal glands and our religious symbol is a golden apple. I am a Pope. You are a Pope. He is, she is, and it is, a Pope. We are all Popes, and, as Pope, it is my right to grant you Popedom. So, just for reading this far, I declare you a knight and Pope of Discordia.
Our main tradition is eating a hotdog with all the fixings on a Friday morning, because it breaks the rules of various traditions. It breaks the rules of:
-Catholicism (no meat on Fridays)
-Judaism (no pork)
-Hinduism (no beef)
-Buddhism (no meat)
-Pastafarianism (Pasta for breakfast)
-Discordia (no hot dog buns).
We are a truly correct verifiable religion. We basically believe everything that Discordians believe, except for when we believe other things, or don't believe anything. Our only set religious law is that everything is somehow related to the number five, and that a lot of things also have to do with twenty-three. Of course, a lot of things have nothing to do with either.
So, what do you think?
12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoI lost my Hotmail account password, and my alternate email's password, as well (It's not this one). What now?
It wouldn't be a problem, but I don't remember most of my contacts.
The email for the alternate email is my father's email, and I don't live with my father anymore. Probably should have changed that beforehand; I suspect he actually changed my Hotmail password by following that chain.
Also, I either am remembering my ZIP code at the time of my Hotmail account's creation or my mother's birthplace wrong. Or perhaps I typed the wrong birthplace of my mother to begin with. Or perhaps my father changed that, too.
Anyway, any ideas to get it back? I mean, legal ideas; I'm not fond of the idea of hacking M$, easy though it might well be.
2 AnswersSecurity1 decade agoWhere might I find contour maps for the entire island of England, or shade-coded height maps of the same?
As in, black being the highest terrain, and white the lowest, or vice versa. I have found maps for, say, Greenwich, or London, but I'm looking for a map of the whole island.
The latter type is preferred, but either will work.

According to Greek myth, eighty nymphs hunted with the goddess Artemis, twenty from the rivers, and sixty from the oceans. I want to know what species these were, and if there are any specific names.

2 AnswersDrama1 decade agoDo religious folks ever feel depressed or just generally awful?
I ask because there seem to be an awful lot of Theists (especially Christian) curious as to whether Atheists are depressed, lonely or unhappy. There are two likely causes for this that I can think of:
1) You are ALWAYS happy, and have never experienced pain ever (some of those of you with weaker systems right now should be dying of sarcasm poisoning, and I apologize), or
2) You are never happy, and are trying to find if it's a human thing or just a Christian/religous thing.
I also considered that you were maybe trying to be supportive of the people you had been hurting by completely ignoring us and refusing to hear us out, while assuming that we HAD to listen to you because you belong to YOUR religion and the world is centred around YOU, but then I thought, no, they wouldn't be that considerate, they assume God will take care of their virtues.
I considered too that you were under some delusion that we didn't have hope, and wanted to make us feel bad about not believing in something, when belief isn't an option, to make us convert, but, no, nobody would do anything that ridiculous and futile.
Now, assuming that, as the most likely option, you have asked because you are depressed, I also have to ask, what is it? The lack of self-control? The inevitability that you are going to heaven and we are going to hell and nothing will ever change that?
Or do you admit that you have done something futile and pointless in mean spirit, oh virtuous knights of Christ?
Keep in mind that choosing the third option, that you were actually being nice, means that you have just risen the standard, and I expect a lot more consideration and asking for forgiveness, to atone for your years of persecution, from here on out.
17 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDoes anybody know how to construct a decent silver weapon?
Many lives hang in the balance.
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat is the suggested method for creating a silver weapon?
It has to be practical (i.e. work without personal grievous harm or dismemberment to the user).
This is a matter of life and death.
