What are some good practices to prevent resistance during the implementation of lay-offs in an organization?

I understand good communication is key!

I would like to hear about some successful approaches companies use to prevent or lessen resistance during lay-offs, besides good communication.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I am just a student and this question is solely for me to gain insights into this subject.

I’m wondering the following, Do American software patents have power over European software?

In the country where I live there are NO software patents.

I’ll provide you with a few hypothetical situations:

a. I create a website I host it in my country and that website (UNKNOWINGLY) infringes an American Software patent, could the American Patent Holder do anything about it?

b. I create software and sell it online and it also unknowingly infringes an american software patent, I developed it in my country but I sell it internationally all over the World, my company is also only located in my country, Could the american patent holder do anything about it?

I’m absolutely afraid to even create the idea’s I have in mind, I can’t spend money nor time on allot of research regarding every software patent in America and I don’t want to infringe a patent but truth be told some of those software patents are absolutely to generic I feel it’s like a minefield.

I am not too lazy to research this for myself, I will look into this further any advice on information sources is welcome too.

I got a beautiful tomato plant in my garden and this morning I found out insects have been eating it!

Hello, I'm creating an ASP.NET C# Web Application it will be connected to a (oraclexe) database there are many ways to do this but I want to use a best practice used by many professionals. (I'm a student)

I was thinking of creating one solution in VS2010 then adding the web app and creating a separate project to handle all database transactions. ( Sounds good so far right? )

Now I'm wondering what's the best type of project to do this, I'm thinking about a web service but I don't know if that's a good thing.

So.. what do the pros's use in this situation ?

Links to books, e-books, tutorials, forum posts , blogs are all welcome but I prefer you sharing your personal experience as a "pro".

I have just heard about garlic fries I live in Europe and I had never heard of them before.

Are they popular in America?

And for what occasions are they popular?

I have heard they are sold in baseball stadiums, but I don't know for sure.

Yeah... I kind of had enough of pizza (My standard home alone food) and want to something new!

I know the risks, I have stayed awake for 3 days before.

But this time I need to stay awake for atleast 5 days in order to get all my work done and lets just say this is so VERY VERY VERY VERY important that I'm willing to take health risks.

I know lots of energy drinks and coffee will help me staying awake also cold water and walking helps.

So please help me out here.
