  • Which of the following chemicals, commonly used in a child care service, might be considered hazardous...?

I am doing a child care course and have been faced with this question. I answer 'Bleach' which was wrong. I have no idea what the answer is and can't find anything on the internet. I only get two attempts. Does anyone know the answer and please reference to it. Any help would be great. thanks!!

A person conducting a business or undertaking must manage risks to health and safety associated with using, handling, generating or storing a hazardous chemical at a workplace. Maree is a new educator and is concerned about the chemicals she is coming into contact with each day. Which of the following chemicals, commonly used in a child care service, might be considered hazardous, and therefore cause concern for Maree?

    Lawn Fertiliser

    Bleach

    Disinfectant

    All of the above

  • Can I claim statutory maternity pay/maternity allowance?

This question is for my sister:

She has worked for the same company for about 3 years. So is currently 20 weeks pregnant. The company she works for has just been sold and now she is no longer employed. Will she qualify for any maternity pay? Or has she lost out as she is now no longer employed?

    Regards

  • Pain in right thigh/groin - cure please!?

A week ago today I started getting pain in upper right thigh/groin area. I had been for a walk that day pushing a pram up a big hill and thought that maybe I had just pulled a muscle. The pain wasn't too bad, its hurt to walk but it wasn't unbearable.

Yesterday (5 days after the pain first started) I was so much pain. If I sit down and stay still I can't feel the pain but as soon as I move my leg or stand up I am in absolute agony. Today it has gotten so much worse. I did the round trip to pick my daughter up from school (20 minute walk) and I was literally in tears when I got home. If I have to get of the chair to go and do anything I am in tears as I walk around the house.

I am also 40+5 weeks pregnant, I had a look online about what it might be and read that it could be the head descending and therefore creating pain but this is far beyond that. I have never been in so much pain before (and i've been though child birth twice!).

I phoned the midwife but she wasn't in the office and I left a message so she should phone me back later and hopefully do something. I am going to the walk in centre this afternoon to beg for some pain killers but I'm just wondering if anyone can shed any light on what it could be and what I can do.

  • What is candy coating?

I have an American recipe book which tells me to use 'candy coating' - looking at the pictures, it looks likes chocolate. But there is a part in the book that says to not use chocolate instead of candy coating because it doesn't set as well.

What would be the English equivalent of candy coating? Any idea?

  • How to deal with a toddler and endless tantrums?

My daughter is 2 1/2. She used to be a wonderfully behaved child and now it's like she has grown horns and turned into the devil.

People used to always comment and how well behaved she was and how well manner she was, always saying please and thank you. Now people comment on how naughty she is and suggest I send her to preschool! (Which, believe me isn't far down the list of choices right now!)

She will tantrum at everything and not just throwing herself on the floor, but if I walk away to ignore her, she follows, grabs my legs and screams. And she will scream for at least 2 hours before she even considers giving up.

Tonight she screamed for 1 1/2 hours because she didn't want to sit at the table to eat her tea.

It affecting her little sister (15mths) who is getting upset because there is constant screaming in the house. My 15 month old now just wants to sit on my knee or be carried around because I think it's frightening her.

I spend the most part ignoring my 2 year old. I have tried putting her on a naughty spot and telling her she can come off when she stops screaming or at the very least calms down, but she will sit there and scream for hours. We have a very open plan house so it doesn't matter where she is she can be heard!

I'm at my wits end on what to do....

  • Help with finding a pushchair/buggy/pram? Pics included?

I was on ebay the other day and came across this pram - I missed this bidding and emailed the lady to find out what pram it was but she didn't know the name of the brand etc.

Was wondering if anyone could help me find the pram, I absolutely love it and really, really want to find it so I can buy it!

Thank you to anyone that can help!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&it... the link to the ebay article.

The pram looks like an Aria Twin but the handle is adjustable so the babies are parent-facing.

  • Does anyone know of an online symptom checker?

Is there a website I can input symptoms and see what might be wrong?

My daughter is 2, she has been really, really drowsy over the past few days. Starting Monday she was drowsy and a bit sick, then Tuesday, she was fine. Wednesday she slept most of they day and today [Thursday] she has been really sleepy and irritable, she has been asleep for the past hour or so.

She normally never sleep in the day.

She also has spots on her cheeks, these have only come up in the last couple of hours - they are red. And don't appear to be any where else on her body. She also went to the toilet before and her poo was yellow.

Any ideas? Should I go the doctors?

  • Nappy rash won't go away. (Alergic reation?)?

My daughter has had 'nappy rash' from the day she was born. When she was a few days old the doctor prescribed dactocart (sp?). This seemed to clear it up a little, but it never fully went away. She is now 8months old and STILL has the same rash.

Sometimes it blisters and breaks the skin and other times it's just red. But no matter what I try it just won't go away. I have spoken to my health visitor and the doctor but they say the best thing to try is dactocart and if that doesn't clear it up then we will have to wait until she is out of nappies and then if it doesn't go away then they will do something about it.

I don't know what to do. Sometimes it is really sore for her (when the skin is broken) and she cries when I have to wipe her bum.

Any suggestions as to what it could be??

Someone suggested she could be lactose intolerant, but she was breastfed until she was 7 months and I didn't think breastmilk had lactose??

    HELP!!!
