  • door knob doesn't turn back to center?

    Exterior door knob, schlage, wood-core steel door, probalby 20-30 years old or more. Typical door knob with key on outside, little turn dial in the center of the knob on the inside that locks/unlocks.

    So just recently when you let go of the door knob after turning it, it does not return to center/rotate back to the normal position. The door works just fine, it's just that I now have to actually think about it when I am leaving and want to lock it and/or when I come home and unlock it. I'm assuming a spring of some sort is broken, anyone know which and if it can be easily replaced??

    I know I could just get a new one but there are a bunch of people who I've given keys to and it would be easier for me to just keep this door knob/lock assembly! Can anyone point me in the right direction? Haven't taken it apart yet so no I do not know if it's something blatantly obvious. Not sure if it's the knob mechanism or the latch mechanism that do the returning to center part of the job??
