  • Is karate a good option for me? What makes a school good?

I'm considering taking karate classes. I am 39 years old, work out sporadically, and am slightly overweight. While I know that the physicaI activity is great for my health, I don't see Karate as the primary means of cardio exercise. In addition to getting the health benefits from karate, I was hoping that the discipline and focus might help me with dealing with the loss of my parents this past year.

There is a school around the corner from me, making it very convenient for me make classes. How do I know if the school is a good school or not?

Also, how much can I expect to pay per month? Do the fees increase as you increase in level? Are uniforms required and how much do they cost?

  • Does your dog vocalize to you?

Just curious what other dogs/breeds do what our 3yr old aussie does. He will lay on his dog bed and make sounds, almost like mumbling. This is not barking, nor growling. It's like hes talking under his breath. His jaws hardly move while he is doing it. I'm not sure why he does it. It's not like he is telling us he wants something. I find it kind of comical.

  • How much is too much food for guinea pig?

I recently adopted 2 guinea pigs from the local shelter. A mom @10 months and her daughter @6months.

They have access to hay and water all day. I have a dish with high quality pellets also. They are fed 2x a day fresh veggies(their favorites are romaine lettuce, cilatro and carrots). I'm trying to determine how much of the greens to to give them- they are eating machines! At each feeding they are getting about 4 leaves of romaine, 6 baby carrots and handful of cilantro. It looks to be about 2 cups total at each feeding. Is this enough? too much? They always are ready for more, but I dont want them to eat too much and be unhealthy.

  • Question about filing income tax for deceased parents, can you help?

My Dad passed away late Nov, and Mom too has since passed in Feb. We, as grown children are in the process of establishing estates for each. It appears they have always had to pay taxes, but since the estate is not established yet, there are no funds or money with which to pay the taxes at this time.

Is filing an extension the best/only option we have? And if so, will we (estate) have to pay the interest that is accrued? Or does the US Government allow for such exceptions? (stop laughing now)

FYI they were relatively young at aged 64. Dad died of cancer and Mom had a massive stroke 6 weeks ago. Also, we are not talking about folks that had/made lots of money- instead there is alot of debt, not including the income tax that is owed.

  • How many hair donations are needed to make one human wig?

My sister recently donated her pony tail to Locks of Love and we got into a discussion about if it would be enough to make one wig. She thinks yes, I say no. Does anyone with any knowledge know the answer?

  • What steps should I take when thinking of gettin my dog involved in agility?

I have a 2yr old Aussie that I'm sure would be great at agility and frisbee. We are looking at getting a portion of the yard fenced in as a start. He knows some basic commands like sit, stay, come etc, but is easily distracted by other dogs, people and small animals. Once he gets more exercise, I'm hoping his will listen with more consistency. I don't want to invest alot of money on the equiptment if I don't know how well he will do, or if we may just do it as a casual exercise routine. Thank you!

  • How often should a turtle eat?

My boss left his turtle at the office for the staff to take care of. He provided a red food and endive to offer him and told us it had to be hand fed, but it has been 5 days and it has not eaten. Should we worry? Should we leave the food in the tank for it? I'm not sure of the species, but it is a small land turtle, like a box turtle. Thanks for you help!
