There is a verse in the New Testament where Jesus talks to one of his disciples about having enough faith to move mountains. This is the foundation of christian self-help. The idea that through the combination of one's faith and God's help, Christians can achieve anything. This is the gospel of faith based material and social achievement. Of Christian self-empowerment and world transformation. While there is some basis for this Christian self-help doctrine in the New Testament, Jesus also warned that Christians would be persecuted for his namesake, that the world would hate you, that peace with the world is enmity with God. Has the Christian self-help movement gone too far in preaching their message, which is an unbalanced, one-sided interpretation of scripture?

Yeah, she's a pop star not a lawyer, or politician. but she seeks the repeal of don't ask don't tell, a law that encourages gays to not disclose their sexuality, on condition they won't be asked to disclose it by the military. Her argument, it is discrimination against gays serving in our military who are just as patriotic and american as non-gays. The law was set up to protect gays from harassement, whether or not it is working idk. But at a time when America is at war in Afghanistan, should she be encouraging retention of gays in the military?

Most places that teach offer group lessons, bootcamps, or private lessons. This question is for people that have done one or more of these and can offer some insight into how they improved. I have done group lessons, but never attented a bootcamp, and only had one private lesson. Is a bootcamp really the right way to learn? Or is it too fast paced? Is it anything more than a several hour-long group class? Are private lessons the best way to improve?

Why or why not? Who should she choose instead? Give reasons.

give details. What scarred you off about Star Trek prior to this movie?

Here are my thoughts. It's obvious from the numbers coming in that Star Trek has a future, or at least, a sequel in its future. After watching the new Star Trek film, my thoughts drifted back to Superman Returns which while paying omage to the classic Superman films of the 80s, didn't feel like a continuation of them. In the same way this new movie pays omage to the classic series while still not feeling like a continuation of what's come before, even if it's not intended to be, strictly speaking, as a prequel. Nevertheless, it still wants to be accepted by fans as genuine Star Trek. But it didn't feel like it to me. When i think back to my favorite episodes of Star Trek, i think of universal themes regarding the human condition, philosophical/moral dilemmas, morally ambiguous situations and confilcts, problems requiring character-driven solutions, or talents. None of that here. Star Trek to me is more than just warp engines, transporter technology, and the infamous trek logo on everypiece of costuming and hardware. It involves a type of storytelling that blends humanity with morality. Star Trek is the space franchise that affects mind and heart. This film succeeds at producing an adventurous thrill ride with stunning visuals, but that was always Star Wars' forte. This film doesn't deliver on what was promised, a history of the origin for the characters from the original series, instead, it creates a new timeline featuring these characters, which it rewries in order to create a new history. It fails, for me, as genuine Trek.

It seems to be more than a coincidence that the Republicans are once again putting Bobby Jindal against Obama on primetime. They did it after Obama's First Congressional address, now they've done it again, after his second press conference. Are the Repubs trying to out Obama, Obama? First by voting for an African American to chair the Party, now by placing Jindal in the spotlight. Similarities to Obama? Jindal is both young and colored. I guess in this way they imagine they can steal the thunder of Obama's novelty to the youth generation. This is really superficial though, they seem less interested in changing their hardcore ideology. Do they imagine that by 'changing' their image, people will somehow imagine they are not an immigrant bashing Party interested in perserving the status quo for Rich White Males?
