  • Substituting for Kindergarten (first time teacher)?

Tomorrow is my very first day as a substitute teacher. I enjoy working with kids and have done various things like after school programs. I This is about the 2nd week of school. What are some things I should bring that would be helpful? I am assuming the teacher has left activities for us to do. Should I bring some of my own? Just in general what are some tips and tricks?

  • Is this a normal recovery time (sprained ankle)?

So I sprained my ankle a month ago. It hurts even if I am just sitting around with no weight on it. I had a chunk of swelling right when I did it. The swelling significantly went down 3 days later. Then the pain and swelling migrated to a different location (front vs side) No bruising and the swelling is only slight. It is not tender to the touch. I can walk on it but not for very long. I walked for 30 minutes yesterday and I was really limping home. It hurts and feels like the muscle is extremely tired. Today I had to think about taking an uber to go 1/2 a mile away. Some days it doesn't hurt much at all (3/10) but usually it is about a (6/10). It kept me up a couple nights ago. I ice it when it gets bad. Don't really take Advil because I get throat ulcers easily if I am on a regular regimen. Wrapping doesn't really help and often doesn't feel very good so I will take it off. I'm wondering if I might have done more damage than I thought. I sprained the same ankle a couple months ago. I had more swelling and tenderness then but I could still walk for several miles on it (averaged about 3-5 miles a day) while at work. Is this a typical recovery?

  • If I applied and interviewed for a job 2 weeks ago would my resume still be kept on file (usually)?

I applied for a job in a small catholic school. I had two interviews but was not successful. This was 2 weeks ago. The position has opened up again (on their website and job boards). Do I need to apply again to be considered?

  • Where to find clothes for a l job interview?

So I have an interview to work as an aid at my parish's school. So I need something fairly conservative, but definitely not a suit/blazer. I also have a $60-100 max budget ($60 max for just a shirt- $100 for more than one piece-- a shirt and sweater, shirt and skirt etc). I went to Macy's, Nordstrom's, Loft, Ann Taylor, White House Black Market. Everything was far too casual or not geared towards my demographic (suburban housewife or middle aged women) too expensive-- I saw some stuff I liked but I didn't want to pay $150 for a cardigan, or was too fall and with our heat wouldn't be able to wear it until late October/November. That was even going with brands that I knew were good for me (Halogen, INC, Charter Club). No luck.

Banana Republic and J crew do not fit me well.

I live in Chicago so have almost any well known store. Any other suggestions for where to try?

  • Is it possible for a burn not to hurt?

So I was at Summer camp 3 weeks ago and we were camping in the wilderness. One day I woke up with a orange sized area of my leg red and purple with blisters. I showed it to the counselor and she thought it was a burn and told me to cover it up. The thing is it did not hurt or itch. It was mildly irritating if it got salt water on it (like a 2-3 on a scale to 10). 3 weeks later and it is gone and there is no mark. Unfortunately we were not allowed phones so I don't have a picture. I'm just curious now if I might have got stung/bit or rolled on a plant or something but had zero pain or itching which seems odd. Any ideas?

  • Normal response to gabapentin (cat)?

So my cat gets pissy at the vet. The vet prescribed gabapentin to mellow her out and said it could also help with my cat's arthritis. My cat is 12 and weighs 11 pounds. Vet prescribed 100 mg. I gave it to her yesterday because her arthritis seemed to be causing pain. My cat went completely limp, At one point I was worried she was dead as her chest was rising so little I could barely see it and she was not moving at all. She wouldn't purr at all (my cat has a weird thing where she purrs whenever I whistle no matter how pissed off she is probably begging me to stop-lol!). Is that what this is supposed to do. I did not like it at all. Vet hasn't got back to me yet.

  • Dead Bird clinging to window?

So I came home and there is a dead bird attached to my window screen (5 stories up) by its talons. What is the best way to remove it? My cat is seriously loving this but I do not want a decomposing bird on my apartment.

  • When to contact company about scheduling second interview?

I had a phone interview with a company last Friday. The woman said she would like for me to come interview in-person but that she did not have her schedule in front of her so she would get back to me. So it will have been a week on Friday. Would it be OK for me to reach out to them asking to schedule the second interview?

  • what do you think is happening with my job?

I am employed by a company. The company places people in schools all over the city. I really like my school. My manager likes me and we work well together. It is just the two of us working together. I said I wanted to continue for the following school year. We are on hiatus and nobody from the company has contacted me. It was not a given that I would stay at the same school but implied that it would happen if I continued. I don't think my manager would have requested for me to be sent elsewhere. I can't see corporate moving me without a strong reason. I looked on Indeed and my position at my school was listed as available. I don't see the company wanting to pay for an additional person because it really is not needed (2 adults for 20-30 kids). What do you think is going on? Did they move me, hire an additional person, let me go? Should I wait for the company to contact me with what is going on?

  • Do you think I packed too much for camp?

I am going to be a summer camp counselor tomorrow. I am nervous as Out of 40 staff only There are only 3-4 new people. Plus everyone attends the same church as the church puts on the camp. I am going because my church doesn't offer any type of camp and this was the closest camp to me and they let me join them. I don't want to stand out by like bringing too much stuff. I am bring a medium duffle bag, a large laundry bag, and then a small tote bag. The camp is only for a week.

    Duffle bag:

clean clothes for each day (maybe not necessary but makes me feel comfortable)

    3 pairs of pjs

2 swimsuits (so one can dry-- I hate putting on a wet swimsuit)

    1 light jacket

    two towels

    flip flops for the shower/pool

toiletries (1 small bag of shower/hygiene stuff, one bag of nail polish stuff for campers, then 1 weeks worth of meds: inhaler, sleep aids, Advil, and allergy meds

Misc: bible, journal, 2 books, pens

    Laundry bag:

bedding: sheet, sleeping bag, pillow, light blanket

1 normal sized target bag of decorations for the bunks (told to bring)

1 normal sized target bag of snacks/drinks (told to bring)

    Tote Bag:

    Sunscreen

    Sung Glasses

    Bandaids

    Waterbottle

+ plan to use it for carrying stuff to pool/shower

  • So I think I might be bi?

I am just really confused about what exactly my sexuality is. I picture myself marrying a man and having kids. However, I also find myself wanting to kiss my female roommate. Or I have realized I don't think I need to be with someone who has a dick to be happy in a relationship. I grew up in a very conservative area where it was not OK to be gay. My longest relationship with a guy lasted 1 month and that was 8 years ago. Or the guys I am interested are unavailable (married and or gay). I have had guys that I have crushed on and went on several first or second dates with guys. Lately I have been looking at women trying to gage if I am attracted to them and I get kind of a meh-- not a hard no, but not a yes. When I look at guys it is a very clear yes or no when it comes to attraction. I don't know if I am a sexually repressed lesbian, if I am bi/queer or if I would identify as straight. My main concern is hurting someone as in dating a girl and then realizing no I actually don't like women sexually. I don't really know how to explore this any suggestions?

  • Why would someone steal glasses?

So, I left my glasses in my last class on Thursday (I took them off while I played a game). I was on the bus home when I realized I didn't have them. By the time I got home and then got back to school the school was locked. I thought no big deal, I will get them today. The teacher's had a meeting so I didn't get to talk to my teacher until 2nd period and she did not see any glasses and nobody mentioned finding them either. I also asked in the office. Nada. I don't think anyone would know those are my glasses and take them to be mean. But their glasses and have a heavy prescription (bifocals) so its not like just anybody could wear them even if they needed glasses. I feel bad because at summer camp when I am a counselor I never believed a kid when they said someone stole their glasses-- I thought they just lost them. But the only place my glasses would have gone was on my desk. I legitly think somebody stole my glasses. I need new ones anyway but I'm still pissed. So like why would someone steal them?

  • Police Department employment polygraph test confidentiality?

So I am going to take a polygraph test to become a police officer. My concern is it is almost certain that my uncle's partner will be doing it. He retired but they still hang out and chat (we have the same last name plus he knows I applied). I have never met her. I am not sure what kind of questions they ask but I have been a crime victim and my family does not know. But just in general I don't want him to know my business. Is there usually confidentiality on polygraphs like the person could lose their job if they told someone outside of those who need to know results? I mean I know nothing can really guarantee my privacy but is there anything to help protect it.

  • Do you think this would work (behavior management) or would the kids see right through it?

I work in an after school program (K-3rd grade). The kids I work with are completely out of control. There are three behaviors that are driving me crazy-- kids standing on top of the classroom tables/bookshelves and jumping off, kids roughhousing (because someone gets hurt ALWAYS) and kids running around the classroom. I have identified the three kids who are most likely to do those behaviors/ usually start doing it and then ask them to monitor the class and have the one kid tell me if anyone is standing on tables and the other if anyone is putting their hands on others and the last who is running around the classroom. I'm pretty much imagining that there would be nobody doing these things if they are not doing them. Do you think the kids could see this is pretty much total bull crap or could this work.

Also everyone in the class constantly tattles so this wouldn't cause any more problems then usual with peers .

(I have tried all the usual stuff- time out, calling parents)

  • Am I being played by this kid?

Would it be unusual for a 6 year old boy not to know what breasts are? I work in an after school program and had a kindergarten student point to my chest and ask what are those and saying you have two of them. I told him they were part of my body. He kept asking and then I told him again it was my body and that I did not like it when he asked that question and then I found somewhere else to be. He asked it so innocently and he looks and acts younger than his age. We are in a school surrounded by female teachers so I am not the first person with breasts he has seen. Is it possible he truly did not know what they were or do you think he was being a little sh*t? FYI I have a polo shirt uniform and do have a rather busty chest so its not the best shirt for me.

  • Should I be worried this is being too over-protective (older and younger sons)?

I have two sons a 11 year old and a 6 year old. My 6 year old has sensory processing issues. He high functioning but to other kids he is "weird" especially when he gets upset. My older son is incredibly protective if someone is bullying his younger brother. I like this. I am proud that he looks out for his little brother. Though here is where things get a little odd. At their school there are two playgrounds one for K-2 grades and one for 3-5th. My older son is apparently bribing/paying younger kids (in snacks/trading cards etc) to break the rules and come get him on other playground if someone is bullying his brother and then he sneaks to the younger kids playground to help his brother. My son says the teachers don't help enough so that is why he goes. He normally scare the **** out of his brothers tormenters. Occasionally he has pushed younger kids down. He has never hit a younger child though. Mostly its just the mess with him again and you will not like what happens threat. The same kid has never bothered my younger son twice. A teacher saw the situation yesterday and this whole story came out for why my older son was on the wrong playground. At some point I do what my 6 year old to stand up for himself. He is not there yet. When he gets upset he shuts down emotionally and rocks and cries. So I am thankful he has a protective big brother. The paying/bribing other kids to come get him seems a bit much-- Is this something I should let continue?
