Traveling with a toddler?
So we are leaving later this week to drive to go see family. This normally takes 16 hours, but we have split it into 2 days so make it easier for our 18 month daughter. Any suggestions about things we can bring to make it less boring for her? We have already mapped out all the spots we can stop and places that might be fun for her along the way.
5 AnswersToddler & Preschooler1 decade agoIs it time to start potty training?
My daughter is 17 months and we are starting to think it might be time to potty train. She adores her little potty (she sits on it and looks at books) and will take her diaper off after she goes. She wants to watch everyone else when they use the bathroom. So, if she is ready, how do we approach the issue? I am having a hard time getting her to understand that peepee goes in the potty instead of her diaper. Thanks for the help!
2 AnswersToddler & Preschooler1 decade agoEngagement ring is broken?
So I just realized that one of the baguettes has fallen out of my engagment ring. My question is, how easy is it to replace the missing baguette if I can't cough the old one up? I do not know when it fell out, so scouring the carpet is a little out of the question. The ring is platinum and it was one of four baguettes. A new ring is out of the question, I want to keep the one I was married with. Thanks for the help, sniff!
4 AnswersWeddings1 decade agoBroken Engagement Ring?
Not a broken engagement (just to clarify)..... I realized that one of the 4 baguettes has fallen out of my engagement band. I do not know when this happened, so scouring the carpet for a teeny shiny thing is a bit out of the question. How difficult is it to replace the one baguette? They are not huge, there are two sets on either side of the center stones. If it helps, the ring is platinum, with a large middle diamond, then a chip on either side, followed by the baguettes. I do not want a new ring, I want the one I was married with... sniff! Thanks!
4 AnswersFashion & Accessories1 decade agoMy sister's wedding present?
My sister's wedding is coming up and I am her maid of honor. Other than the bachelorette party and lingere party, I would like to get her something very special. We are very close and I can't think of anything to get her. Paying for part of the wedding is probably out so I am stuck. Any ideas?

What do you call the one piece outfits with little shorts? They snap at the crotch and have a little bit of leg. My one year old loves them and I can't find any online.
3 AnswersToddler & Preschooler1 decade agoHolster for XD .40 with M3 light?
My husband needs a duty holster for his XD .40, having trouble finding one that will hold the gun with the light attactched. Needs to be the STX finish. Thanx!
3 AnswersHunting1 decade agoChunky dog?
According to the vet, my dog is a little on the chunky side. She isn't a cow yet, just a little plump. He wants us to put her on a lean diet so she can lose about 10lbs. Can you suggest a decent brand? I plan to slowly switch her, so she doesn't get poopy. If it helps, she is a mutt (heinz 57, we have no idea what she could even come close to) and weighs about 60 lbs. She also goes on nightly walks and doesn't get people food.
11 AnswersDogs1 decade agoCrock Pot Chicken Wings?
I need a good recipe for chicken wings a la crock pot. It isn't for a party or anything, I am just thinking chicken wings would be good for dinner one night this week.
5 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoKinda icky..... dog butt question?
This is gross, and I apologize in advance. We are taking my dog to the vet Monday for yearly shots and general checkup. Yesterday, we realized that she needs her anal glands expressed. She is scooting and licking and generally smells hideous. We know she needs her anal glands expressed, because this has happened before. The smell is awful, and is only compounded by the fact that I am pregnant and smell everything anyway. No one will see her, because she isn't up to date on shots (again, going on Monday). Is there ANYTHING i can do to make the smell a little less horrible, just until Monday? We gave her a bath and sprayed with no-stink dog stuff on her, but it has not worked. I am on the verge on vomiting here.
13 AnswersDogs1 decade agoGumbo Party!?
My husband and I are having some freinds over for dinner, and in traditional southern fashion, I am going to make a big pot of gumbo. I need some ideas for an appetizer to serve beforehand. I would like it to compliment the gumbo (chicken and andouille sausage), so bring on your cajun and creole recipes. I would like to avoid anything with alcohol or seafood, as I am pregnant and my buddies and my husband are not big seafood people (I know, it's crazy...). Thanks in advance!

8 AnswersEntertaining1 decade agoDoggie is sad?
We had to put my older dog down the other day, and since then my younger dog has not been herself. She won't come out of her crate, even for toys or treats. She comes out to eat and go potty then goes back in. I realize they need to grieve, but I feel awful. Is there anything I can do to cheer her up?
11 AnswersDogs1 decade agoCarpet Stain?
It is horrible, so I will spare the details... but long story short, my dog was very sick and had a horrible hemmorhage this morning and we had to put her down. I have been crying all day and am just now getting to cleaning up my carpet. I am having a really hard time getting the blood up. I have gotten most of it, but there is still pretty obvious residue. Does anyone know how to get it out of the carpet? Please be nice, I am still a royal mess from this morning, she was my baby.
5 AnswersDogs1 decade agoNewborn anxiety?
So here is my story.... after 3 years of marriage and much discussion and planning, my husband and I decided to have a baby. Took all of one try (no kidding). Everything was fine up until week 24, I started having contractions and am now bed bound until our daughter arrives. So here I am, almost 29 weeks pregnant and attempting to register for my shower, and I just realized something. Our baby is going to be born, we are going to get her home.... and then what? I am chalking it up to hormones and the fact that this is our first baby, but just realized I am scared to death! Hubby has never really been around babies, the only experience I have is babysitting 10 years ago. I already love my daughter, I have loved her from the first day I found out I was pregnant... I don't want to screw her up! Please tell me some of you brand new parents have been through this!
23 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoShower Registry?
I am having a baby shower on the 17th of Decemeber (our first baby!) and I am having some trouble deciding what to register for. I am getting stuck on things like types of bottles, how many bibs etc. Can anyone help me out? Like I said, this is our first baby, so we need all the advice we can get.
5 AnswersOther - Pregnancy & Parenting1 decade agoBloody Marys!?
Who out there has the best Bloody Mary recipe? Pregnant hormones have driven me to drink them hand over foot (without the liquor, of course). So give me your best recipe... the hotter the better.
9 AnswersBeer, Wine & Spirits1 decade agoColostrum ickyness!?
So a few weeks ago, my boobs started leaking (I am 27 weeks pregnant). After much gagging on my part and some concern on my husbands part, we figured out it was colostrum. The OB confirmed this at my last visit. Very yucky, mildly inconvienent. On top of that, I went into preterm labor a few weeks before that and am confined to my couch until the baby is born. Can't do anything that could possibly start the labor going. My question is, I had heard that expressing the ickiness can start the process. I see something gross coming out of my boob and it is a natural instinct to want to get rid of it. Should I avoid this, or is the nipple stimulation stuff an old wives tale?
6 AnswersOther - Pregnancy & Parenting1 decade agoWhat to plant?
OK- So I just became interested in growing things and am particularly interested in veggies. I live just north of Houston and it never really gets below 40F at night. If it does, it warms right up as soon as the sun comes out. I am needing something that is relativley easy to grow, it seems I am pretty good at killing whatever I plant. I have a garlic plant that is doing pretty well, my poor chile peppers never had a chance. Can you make any suggestions? Needs to be pretty hardy and difficult to kill, as I am just a beginner.
8 AnswersGarden & Landscape1 decade agoJumping- at my wit's end...?
I have a 70 lb mutt who is EXTRA freindly. When we come into the house she jumps and will almost knock you over in attempt to lick your face. This is especially bad when we have visitors. When we sit on the couch, she climbs and stomps on you. She is a pretty big girl, and having her climb on you like a goat can hurt. We have tried gently pushing her away, crate training, squirt bottles, rocks in a little plastic bottle, clickers... you name it. Other than this licking business, she is perfectly trained. I realize this is probably a dominance issue, but I need some help on how to correct it. I am not a big fan of choke collars and electric collars, but I am 6 months pregnant and this really needs to stop. Help us PLEASE!
