  • Why do Christians think the big bang theory competes with their religion?

The big bang theory of the origin of the universe was actually proposed by a Catholic priest after all. Isn't it possible that creation and science are actually the same thing? Something had to mobilize the energy of the big bang to begin with. What if God is actually all the energy of the universe mobilizing everything into action? Why do Christians think it's either one or the other, God vs science?

  • Do you think that Sarah Palin will vote for her own ticket, or for Barack Obama?

It's widely speculated that she is actually pursuing her own ambitions for 2012, rather than for the McCain presidency. If McCain loses, that would open up a chance for her to attempt a bid in 2012. Today ABC asked her if she would just go back to Alaska if they lose, and she said "I'm not doin' this for naught." Just makes me wonder .... I would love to see who the Palin family casts their votes for next week!

  • Is a fee-for-service psychotherapy private practice possible?

How do you market a successful self-pay practice?

I'd rather give my clients the security of knowing their privacy and autonomy are protected, and don't want the hassles that come with being a network provider. But will clients come if they have to pay out of pocket? And does anyone know of any books/articles that can advise me on building an ethical and successful self-pay practice?

  • Navratri fasting -- what's allowed for the one meal per day?

I know no meat, no alcohol, no caffeine, no garlic/onions in food. I plan to drink fruit juices and water all day. What do most people eat at the 1 mealtime after sunset? I'm not a great cook, especially of Indian foods -- does anyone have easy menu ideas for the 9-day vrat?

Sorry for the "Dussehra" category -- Yahoo doesn't seem to have a Navratri category!

  • Does anyone have a good way of removing a splinter from your child's hand?

I remember as a child my parents using the old-fashioned way of poking at it with a needle and tweezers. I started to try that route but my 2yr old daughter got scared at the sight of the needle. Does anyone have a tried-and-true way that is easier?? I'm scared of doing it wrong and causing an infection.

  • Can anyone tell me the steps to take in buying a house for the first time?

I am looking to buy a 3BR house, and will be a first-time home buyer. I've not yet found a reliable realtor, and would love to get some good advice on getting started with this confusing process. Can anyone give me a basic outline of the steps I should take in going about the whole home-buying process? Thank you in advance!

  • Is anyone familiar with the Twilight Zone episode "The Encounter"?

This was an episode which was filmed in 1964 and featured a "psychological encounter" between an American WWII veteran and a young Japanese man. It was supposedly so controversial that it was banned from syndication. Does anyone know what the controversy was and why it was banned?

  • What things have you done as a parent, that you swore you would never do?

I used to swear I'd never fall for the commercialism and buy stuff like "Dora cereal" or "Scooby Doo yogurt." But then I find myself going ahead and buying this stuff because my daughter is crazy about it. I'd love to hear other parents' stories of pre-parenting resolutions gone 'bad.'

  • What is a fair amount to pay a babysitter?

Keeping in mind that I also feed the babysitter dinner. She is a college grad and works in my daughter's daycare center. My daughter (age 2) really likes her, but I think she charges way too much ($10./hr). Do you think that's a fair amount for babysitting one child? Or should I be paying less?

  • Has anyone adopted more than one child as a single parent?

I adopted my daughter 2yrs ago as a single mom, and have been thinking about adopting another child. It's challenging with one (but incredibly rewarding), so I can only imagine that the challenges/rewards would be doubled with two. I would love to hear if there are other single adoptive moms/dads out there who have more than one and how they handle the day-to-day challenges of 2(+) kids on their own. What would you do differently if you could?

Serious answers only, please - this is a serious question for single adoptive parents only!
