What is a fair amount to pay a babysitter?
Keeping in mind that I also feed the babysitter dinner. She is a college grad and works in my daughter's daycare center. My daughter (age 2) really likes her, but I think she charges way too much ($10./hr). Do you think that's a fair amount for babysitting one child? Or should I be paying less?

10$ an hour is way to much you either need to find a new sitter or get her to drop her price the fair rate right now is about 5$ an hour at least that is what i pay my babysitter and my son is 6 months old but he has no special needs he is just a really good baby that plays on the floor all the time now if your daughter needs special things then you can expect to pay more money for your sitter

I, too, have heard the going rate is about $10/hour and if it were possible to do it full-time, I would quit my day job!
You may think that $10/hour is expensive, but what is your peace of mind worth? You obviously trust her and so does your daughter -- that is worth something!
I am confused about the dinner part, though. Is she watching your daughter while you are there? If so, it should be less than $10/hour.
Life is negotiable. If you think that $10 is too much, talk to the sitter! Maybe she can offer some help around the house to make up for the amount you are spending? Keep in mind though that she may be 'less available' if you end of paying less than she can get elsewhere!
Good Luck!

Well the thing is people pay teenagers anywhere between $4-8 dollars an hour depending on the area and the teenager. Teenagers do not have college degrees nor the experience of working with children that this babysitter does.
Who would you rather have someone you know you can trust for a little more or someone that you may have to worry about more and who does not have that kind of experience for less.
It seems like a lot but when it comes to my children and their safety I would rather pay the extra!

Depends on what part of the country that you live in and what the going rate is. For a child of that age it could be anywhere from $8 and up.
Since she works at a Day Care and has a degree she could be charging $20 if your daughter is not potty trained yet. Experience costs with babysitters.

THATS WAY TO MUCH! wow!!!!! If I knew the going rate for babysitting was 10.00 per hour, I'd quit my job now and start watching me some kids. AND DINNER. Well heck, yeah. Do you think you can do my laundry too? lol.....j/k Yes that is extremely to expensive. The going rate here in Kentucky even for a daycare where they supply food and everything except Pampers is 115.00 a week. Thats for a max of 10 hours a day, 5 days a week.

OMG What city do you live.I pay 300.00 every 2 weeks but really that only 30.00 a day or 3.75 per hour for 8 hours.
Does she watch your daughter at home?
How long does she watch your baby for ?
you need to sit down with her and talk pricing I think that that too much you figure 10.00 a hour for 8 hours that 80.00x 5 thats 400.00 ohhh no you might need to find another 1 she costs too much

If you feel that she is worth a big help to your life, then it shouldn't be a problem to pay $10/hr and also feed her dinner. It is very hard to find a sitter that you can trust and can get along with kids. So if you find that you can trust her, then stay with the amount otherwise you will loss a wonderful sitter.

It depends on the cost of living in your area. I dont think $10 an hour is too much to make sure your child is well taken care of by someone with a degree.

if she's a college grad (and not some random 14 year old girl) $10 is cheap... hell, even if she worked for you FULL TIME thats barely over 20 grand a year! If you want to get more for your dollar, have her do the dishes, some laundry, or vacuum....

shocking but true, the going rate is 10/ph plus travel time.
the women I know that charge this is are only high school grads.
They say that if you want just anyone. Hire a kid. But if you are entrusting someone with your most precious possession, you might have to pay.
