The topic is, "'The freedoms we enjoy today are a direct result from our Veterans’ unselfish service to our great country.” Discuss with a Veteran (relative or acquaintance), who is involved in your life, how serving in the military has influenced their life and what it means to you as an American."
Unfortunately, there is no outline on how service will affect veterans. Each experience slightly differs in the influence upon servicemen and women. As former wartime veterans, each of my grandfathers obtained contrasting perspective on life through their active duties. Without theirs and millions of other former veteran’s service, our country would not be in the same position that we are today.
Stationed in the Philippines in the Marine Corps from 1969-1971, my maternal grandfather earned a sense of dignity and discipline, accompanied by a few major repercussions. His prime duties during service included maintaining title of Ford observer for naval gunfire and parachutist. Through this line of work, my grandpa began to view American foreign affairs as, “trying to police the entire world.” Although there were negative effects to his encounters during war which may have largely contributed to his alcoholism, there were also several benefits such as indefinite pride in his country and a firm recognition of well needed self-control. He mentioned that, while serving, one of the most common phrases one would hear was, “There is no such thing as can’t.” This lesson has followed him through life and ultimately assisted in developing his character. Everyone views politics a little differently, but one of the most prevalent impressions is the escorted nobility and honor. My grandfather’s confident yet final words on the subject were, “If World War II Veterans did not stand up, you would either be speaking Japanese or German.”
On the opposite end of the spectrum, my paternal grandfather also served during the Vietnam War in the late 1960’s, but never went overseas and was instead positioned in the Military Police in Morgan, Georgia. He felt as if, at this time, every male had an obligation to aid their country. Almost everyone he knows that grew up in this time period has some previous military history. Both of my grandfather’s brothers served, one in the marines and the other in the air force. His uncles, cousins, and even his friends all connect on this unique background. Every Saturday, he meets with his 90 year old friend who is still always talking about his experiences in the military. The involvement during these men’s previous practices made service such a large part of their lives and established an abiding comradery. Due to this patriotism, I know the elderly community in my grandfather’s neighborhood was so severely offended when the flag in front of church was removed, that they decided to take action. I am not sure they would have felt so compelled had they not done what they did for their country.
Having such a strong connection to the military through two very important men in my life, I also feel a strong sense of this spoken patriotism and I thank them each and every day for the freedoms they have granted in my life. Veteran service is an extreme sacrifice by men and their families. By this, their service means I get to attend school, unconcerned for my safety. It means I can walk the streets without observing traumatizing and fatal situations. It means I get to decide what my future holds in store, beginning with a college education. For this, I thank every veteran for their unselfish service and commend their strength. Even when things became cruel and impossible, they never stopped believing in and fighting for our country.
As I have been consistently told, I shall, “honor the warrior, not the war.” I owe my life to the men and women who fought for it. This poses the question, how can Americans best honor their veterans? The answer is simple. We must give thanks and give back. Not a day goes by that I do not take a moment to thank former and current veterans for their benevolent acts.
Many Americans raise their flag in enamor for the United States of America, but it is often that we tend to forget why we love this country and how it is that we came to be so strong and united. Veterans have compromised their lives, endangered their lives, and lost their lives so American citizens may relish in each of the freedoms listed in the Declaration of Independence. For this, I must begin by saying, thank you.
2 AnswersOther - Social Science7 years agoSub woofer/Speaker set up?
Okay, so I guess asking someone to email me for help is considered spam. So anyway, I have a home theater sub that plugs into the wall and I'm trying to connect the sub to my computer speakers. The speakers are connected to my computer with an auxiliary cord. They work just fine, but when I connect the sub to the speakers using an RCA to jack cord in the auxiliary input in the speakers, no sound comes out, but when i plug the sub/ jack into the microphone port in the speakers, the sub will work, but the speakers stop so I only get bass. If you have any ideas or suggestions, I would appreciate them. Keep in mind that I have no previous knowledge on the subject. Thank you so much!

My school name
My address
Will it be shipped to my address? Or my school?

My little sister got to take her giant classroom teddy bear home for the week and we are supposed to take pictures with him and send him back with a few scrapbook pages. All of the other kids have taken pictures of them reading and sleeping and in the car, but I want to do something really creative. What could I take pictures of my sister and the bear doing?

4 AnswersPolls & Surveys9 years agoShould I go and see if he is still there in three weeks or forget it?
So I was looking at car stereos today and the guy that worked there that was helping me out seemed like such a sweet guy. I really wanted to ask him how old he was or see if I could get his number, but I was interrupted by my parents who said they were ready to go. I get my license in about 3 weeks, so I wont be able to drive down there any time soon, but I really regret not asking this guy for his number. How should I go about this? Should I wait and go down there and see if he is working in three weeks or forget about it? If I do go down there, what should I say?
