I'm making a white cake but would like to replace the butter with shortening because I want a more pure flavor. I'm not concerned about blandness as I'm adding some other flavorings. I'm not trying to screw attempt #1 over here and spend the rest of my day making another cake while gorging on a failed cake so I need some guidance. The original recipe is as follows:

18 tablespoons (2 sticks plus 2 tablespoons) unsalted butter, room temperature, plus more for pans

4 1/2 cups cake flour (not self-rising) plus more for pans

1 1/2 cups whole milk

9 large egg whites, lightly beaten

1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon almond extract

2 tablespoons baking powder

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

2 1/4 cups sugar

Can I just substitute butter with shortening 1:1? They have different fat/solid contents. Do I need to adjust the amount of milk? Please help me, cooking-science community.

I'm pretty sure proved is the correct word to use here, but this is a blurb from a personal statement for a college application so I'd like to be sure. While I'm asking, I would think "have" is technically correct as I've listed more than one attribute (time and flexibility) but it seems off. If I could just get a second or third opinion on this entire sentence it would be much appreciated, thank you.

I have so much trouble wrapping my mind around this aspect of accounting. The question I'm currently trying to get through and would seriously appreciate some guidance on is as follows:

The balance in the prepaid insurance account before adjustment at the end of the year is $5,300, which represents the insurance premiums for four months. The premiums were paid on November 1. The adjusting entry required on December 31 is:

a. Debit Prepaid Insurance, $2,650; credit Insurance Expense, $2,650.

b. Debit Prepaid Insurance, $1,325; credit Insurance Expense, $1,325

c. Debit Insurance Expense, $2,650; credit Prepaid Insurance, $2,650.

d. Debit Cash, $5,300; Credit Prepaid Insurance, $5,300.

I have it narrowed down to C or E, hopefully I'm headed in the right direction.

Maybe "homework help" would initially seem a more appropriate category but I think my chances of someone who is familiar with accounting specifically running across my question are better here.

I've only seen a couple episodes, years ago, of this show and I thought it was called "Northern Territories" or something like that, obviously it's not "Northern Territories" because I didn't get any results with that, but you know, along those lines. I don't know which station it originally aired on but it was a comedy and I think may have been set in the wilderness or a national park. I don't think it's in syndication or anything, so sorry if this is a tricky one. I appreciate it!

I'm in the early, early stages of attempting to spend a few months away from my hometown and one of the places I'm really interested in is Leadville. I was wondering if anyone in that vicinity could tell me what their average gas and electric expenses are, primarily May-December because that's the time frame I'm looking at. I live in Northern VA and haven't had my own place yet so I can't really even ballpark it. The places I'm looking at are studios and one bedroom apartments. Thanks very much for your help.

With how many there are out there and my lack of experience with them, I could use some guidance.

Cost is an important factor. I'd say my budget is $450 tops, which I'm guessing won't get me very far even with used cameras, which is really all I'm looking at because of that limitation. My experience until now has been with point and shoot digital cameras, and the Lomography Holga (medium format). I'm not necessarily looking for something super user-friendly because I'm ready and willing to learn. I know with point and shoots viewfinders can be hard to come by; I'm not sure if this is the case with DSLR's, but a viewfinder is preferable but not a requirement. Display size isn't an issue, nor is the size of the camera itself. I don't mind if it's bulky.

I don't see myself ever needing to blow up pictures to anything near poster size, so excessively high megapixels aren't necessary. Photography is a hobby for me right now, but something I'm considering going to school for. I'd like a camera that's going to last for a while since I clearly don't have a lot of money to work with. Let me know if I'm leaving any obvious features out, and thanks so much for your input.

I'm on my last few tablets (or capsules, whatever) of 36mg Concerta (extended release Ritalin) and would prefer a greater effect over a shorter period of time and I want to know if it's safe to cut one in half, possibly thirds. Is it going to be the same as taking a 18mg/12mg dose of Ritalin, or is it dangerous?

The scene where Low Rider is playing and cars are pulling into the Top Notch, the camera pans and there's a red car (a Ford Maverick as I understand - I'm no expert), and behind it, what is that? The top's down and it's kind of gold/taupe from what I can tell, and it's boxy like a Wrangler but is obviously not a Wrangler because the movie's set in '76. And it sits lower and has a wider wheel base. The, uh, area where the wheels are (don't know proper term) looks like half an octagon.

Sorry if this is a lot to read, I'm trying to be detailed so I can get a decent diagnosis.

I drive a '96 Ford Taurus and it's got about 57,000 miles on it. Not all of the time, but always when I'm going up an incline, when I accelerate it kind of feels like it's fighting it if that makes any sense. It's not a steady thing, like it's not just slow to pick up speed, it's sort of a quick thrust feeling until I've reached a constant speed. It doesn't do it every time when I'm driving on a flat plane, and I haven't really nailed down the other conditions under which it does it. I wish I knew cars better so I could describe it more clearly, but hopefully you catch my drift. This is when it's in drive (as opposed to overdrive, second, etc).

The only other problems the car has had since it was bought from the original owner, in 2006 I believe, are the fan belt going bad and the coolant line leaking. I'm not aware of any significant problems the original owner had with it. It gets about 15 mpg city and I think between 22-28 highway, if that's any indication of what condition the engine is in. I'm not 100% on those figures though.

I should probably add that there was one instance in which I was at a full stop at a light and for maybe two seconds the needle on the tachometer teetered back and forth in about a 1/4-inch arc and I could feel whatever was going on, it was as if I had been spasmodically accelerating, but my foot was on the break pedal. I can't remember how long I had been stopped once this occurred, whether I had just come to a stop or had already had the brakes on for a while already.

I want to get "buy the ticket, take the ride" curving around behind my left ear in Helvetica (font). I haven't spoken to the tattoo artist about it yet, but would it be particularly difficult to do this font, involving as many straight lines as it does (as opposed to script)? I've seen a fair amount of tattoos done in Helvetica but they're all larger than what I'm planning on having done.

I'm at a rental house at the beach (if this matters) and there is WiFi here. I'm obviously able to connect (from a MacBook Pro), but my iPod Touch cannot find any of the networks here (there are several) and when I type in the name of the network I'm using on this MacBook, it says "could not find the network [network name]." It is an open network and doesn't require a password. It can't find any of the other networks, either. My iPod hasn't done this at any other locations.

It sounds quite a bit like UB-40's "Red Red Wine," and I'm thinking it's from the 70's or 80's. Sorry to be so vague, that's really all I can recall.

I'm on a MacBook Pro and use Firefox because I've been experiencing freezing with Safari, and YouTube videos will play, but I cannot use the play/pause button or the volume slider or anything in that general area. It's rather annoying and I suppose I'm missing a plug-in or something.

This doesn't happen with Safari, by the way.

I kind of get why, the pellet really doesn't get a chance to build up momentum, but if you were to do the same with a pistol, that bullet would go straight through wherever it's fired, if I'm correct. I just don't really know anything about the mechanics of an Airsoft.

I've gotta make this car last as long as I can. It has about 60,000 miles on it and it runs decently except for when the AC is on. The longest I've driven it without stopping is about 1 hr 15 min. The previous owner never made long trips in it. I don't have an option as to which car I can take on this trip, but I don't want to be surprised if it starts running badly afterwards. I don't know a ton about cars.

I'm driving down there (Virginia Beach) with a friend for Warped Tour this Wednesday, and I've gotten screwed over by GPS enough times to prefer "real people" directions. Least complicated route would be the preferred route. Thanks!
