I started working on cars my sophomore year in HS. in Auto shop and have never stopped. That was 1980. Went to College and got a degree in auto engineering and decided while working for GM That I wanted a shop so I bought out an old guy in Missouri and 27 years later I have a well respected local shop that is so freakin' busy, In '06 I added my 12th mechanic and we do all services. I also bought a body shop, of which I really am a partner as I know little about the body just what makes it move. I love answering questions especially at work as my guys say I am goofin' off but I reel them in to answer some stuff. then they are OK with it. We have a blast here and have a lot of happy customers. I admit some folks are out to get a free service job. I give them a break and realize some people have been abused by shysters so I try to be as personable as possible. I have a salt shaker on the counter and I shake it over my left shoulder as I use a lot of grains with some folks..

  • 1990 735i Is it worth a buck?

I need a little info from the informed BMW folks,

I am getting this car for a great price. WAY below book and it is all there.

In your experience, is this a car that looks to be something to restore and make 100% or just a beater that will never amount to anything? If I owned it I'd have pictures.

  • A Different type of a No-Start Question!?

So a customer had their car towed in, 175 bucks We spent 4 hours yesterday diagnosing the problem. Here are the specifics.

    1. Fuel delivery OK

    2. Timing & ignition OK

    3. Hard cranking.

    4. Oil on Plugs.

    5. New plugs didn't solve issue.

So there is fuel & spark at the right time, starter is fine. air intake is also fine.

We did solve the problem and I didn't charge the customer as we were laughing too much. This is way out there. I will answer it at lunch today. Lets see who can come up with the answer, I will post clues. For all mechanics it is a head shaker.

  • 2001 Sebring Keyless Entry?

    I have a customer who I couldn't answer this Q!

He took his Sebring to the Chrysler Dealer to get a new Remote programmed (he has none at all) the dealer couldn't program the thing and are baffled. Any Chrysler Dodge folks out there who have seen this or been through it. I know how to program a second remote but the dealer has to program 1 if there are none. But gee thay can't

  • Piranah, Kit Car or Prototype?

I have a car in the shop,

Towed in and it is a 60's -70's vintage auto. Looks like maybe a chrysler, has a Ford Engine however. it was stolen and stripped so I have little to go on except what they called it at the auction. A "Piranah". I have lost title coming for it as it was picked up at an auto auction. The VIN makes no sense at all. By what I see it is a prototype from a while back

Has anyone heard of this vehicle. I have looked everywhere to get an answer. It is a 2 seater. It has at the present a 351C which by the block number puts the engine 69-70. 4 speed manual

I freakin' thought I had seen it all.

I thought I'd pick it up to accompany my Pantera. I love challenges
