  • chemistry problem. I need help with this...?

Here's what I need to solve:

At 6:00 p.m., you put a 300.0-g copper pan containing 800.0 mL of water (all at room temperature, which is 25 C) on the stove. The stove supplies 628 J/s. When will the water reach the boiling point? (I have to calculate what the time of day will be)... (assume no heat loss).

    Specific heat of Cu= 0.385 J/g C

    Specific heat of water= 4.185 J/g C

I'm going cross eyed with this one. I think I'm over thinking and can't seem to come to an answer. I have a test tomorrow and need to see this problem worked out. I would appreciate anyone who could spell it out for me so I can see where my mistakes are. I'm not even looking for the answer, just a guidance of the steps needed to get to the answer.

  • I need driving directions in NY while hauling a trailer...?

My GPS has crapped out and I need to take a truck route since I'm hauling a 12' double axle trailer. My pick up has passenger plates, but my trailer will be a problem. Going from Suffolk Country... to Katonah, NY. 10536 . Can anyone spell out a route? I'm pretty sure I can take either the Whitestone Bridge or Throgs Neck Bridge. I can't find any websites that can give me a clear direction. I know trucks are not permitted on Parkways.. any and all advice would be appreciated.

  • Renting a house to a diplomat... what's your experience?

I'm considering renting my house to a diplomat, but I'm apprehensive about the decision. Though his current landlord has only good words about him, I find my family and friends all feel it would be the wrong decision because of a diplomats status (immunity). I want to hear from others who have or are currently renting to a diplomat and let me know how you find the whole experience. Have you been paid on time? Has there been damage that was not taken care of? Have you needed to resort to legal help and what happened there? Which country were they a diplomat for?

It was explained to me that if I do rent it to him, and he gets moved, that they would replace him with another. Has anyone had that experience? Were you able to object to the replacement even though the lease had not run out? Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

  • Garmin Nuvi 650 touch screen does not work... help!?

When powered up, I get a screen that mentions about Map Update Notice and where to go to download and buy maps... but will not allow me to touch the OK button on bottom right. I tried resetting... tried trouble shooting from their site... there seems to be no info on this particular problem. Anyone else have this experience? How did you resolve this short of sending the unit in for repair? I'm taking a trip tomorrow and would like to use it.

  • whole house humidifiers... what has been your experience?

I want to hear from people who have one (rated for 2000 sq.ft.) and let me know what brand/model it is and their experience. I don't need links to websites to review them. I've done my homework and then some. I need to hear from actual users as to what they like or don't like about their model. I'm looking for something that outputs a decent amount of moisture without having to fill it multiple times a day. Please advise whether your experience has been good and why... or has been bad and why.

I have a wood burning insert in my fireplace and though I love the heat output... it dries the air so much that wood shrinks, skin cracks, etc...

    Thank you for your input.

  • Has anyone washed their child restraint seat cover in the washing machine?

I have the Alpha Omega Elite & Eddie Bauer Deluxe 3-in-1 seats and want to know if they can be placed inside the washing machine. The directions say to use warm sudsy water and rinse with clean water... let air dry. Did the seat covers fall apart? Did you have any issues? Did they shrink?

  • Nikon D60 vs. D5000...?

I was planning on buying the D60 (need an SLR) until I found out it cannot do video clips and does not provide a live view on the screen. The D5000 has both features, but I'm wondering how good is the HD recording capability. My main reason for getting an SLR is for taking pictures of my kids. Need a camera that can capture those cute moments where as a point and shoot takes too long and you lose that "Kodak" moment. I also use my current digital camera to record video and though I have a separate camcorder for certain occasions... I like having the flexibility of using one camera in the event I need to do both. I would appreciate the advice of anyone who's used one or both of these cameras. If the video mode of the D5000 is not that great, would it matter which camera I use to get good close up shots of my kids. As for the lens, will the 18-55mm be enough for my current purpose?

  • What bug killer is good to use to get rid of ticks from the yard?

I found a tick in my toddlers head a couple of days ago and want to make sure I avoid another one. My yard backs a slightly wooded area and though I keep my grass cut weekly, the wooded area poses a problem. My children have a play swing set situated near the area and love to play outdoors. I want to treat my lawn and property... as well as the wooded area closest to my yard with a product that can cut down on ticks and other bugs. Has anyone used Ortho Bug B Gone granules? Did it do the job? Any other product recommendations would be welcome. I plan to use Deet on my kids when they play... but would prefer to treat the yard instead of them. Any and all advice would be appreciated. I live in Long Island NY.

  • I want to host my web site... who to go with?

I'm a contractor / remodeler looking to provide a website for my clients to get some background info... and most importantly, to view pictures of all the different remodels I have done. I've looked at hostmonster and hostgator. I already have a domain which I got through yahoo some time ago... but they want too much to keep the domain going through them. I see that hostmonster will transfer my domain (free of charge?). I plan to use their tools to build my website using their templates, etc... My main concern is reliability that the website will not have issues. I have lots of photos and testimonials and just want an inexpensive way to provide this info to my customers. What has been your experience with them and which one is more user friendly. I'm pretty capable and know my way around a computer... but wanted to get some feedback from others who have gone down this road.

  • Mini trampoline for my toddlers?

I'm considering getting a mini trampoline for indoor use for both my 3 1/2 year old son and 2 year old daughter. My son has some sensory issues and quite a few people suggested a trampoline. I've seen the ones with the bars and I'm leaning to those. Can other parents advise on which brand they have used and their experience with them. I've read so many reviews yet can't seem to decide on one. Just wanted to check and see what this forum advises. Obviously, cost is an issue and I would like to keep it down... but wouldn't want to sacrifice safety and construction for it. Thanks!

  • Best seat protectors and seatback protectors for GMC Acadia... with leather interior?

I have 2 kids ( 2 & 3 year old) and just bought a 2009 Acadia with Titanium leather interior. What was I thinking?! I'm looking for the seat protectors to put under the car seats (to prevent denting the leather)... and need seat back protectors from their dirty shoes. Any suggestions? I've purchased the Eddie Bauer ones from Target temporarily until I find ones that work better. The ones from Target don't go all the way up the seat (I have the bucket seats in second row... not the split bench)... and the car seats seem to also rest on the headrest of the seat. Many reviews talk about size and proportion to different car seats... so I thought I'd ask this forum for advice. Hoping another Acadia owner has had some good luck and advice. I'll take suggestions on products even if you don't have an Acadia. Need to find a product that will do the job. Many thanks.

  • Crack in sewer pipe allowing roots and dirt to fill the pipe...?

I have a house (a brick tudor built back in the early 40's) in Flushing, Queens (NY) and started smelling a sewage odor so I called a sewer company to take a look. They said by viewing through a comera that I had a crack in the main sewer line some 28 feet out... which had lots of roots and vegetation. About 2 years ago, I had someone snake the sewer line because of a clog... and they had pulled out roots, so I know there must be a crack. The guy who looked at it said he could reline the pipes for $100 a foot... but when I contacted some other plumbers, I was told it was illegal to use the liners in NYC. Evidentally it's not against the law to "advertise" it in the yellow pages. I was also told that relining wouldn't work. A different plumber just quoted me between $14,000 ~ $18,000 to replace the cast iron pipe (which would require permits, digging up my garden, sidewalk, etc...). Has anyone else experienced something like this? What if I just snake it out every year and pay $150.00 . Would ignoring this costly repair eventually cause me to have to replace it? I'm planning on keeping the house for another 15 years. Any advice would be appreciate... especially if you do sewer lines in the Queens area.

  • Need opinions on accredited online universities....?

I want to finish my bachelors degree and need to do it online (I have 2 babies at home and cannot attend night classes). I've already earned some credits towards my bachelors... but that was 10 years ago. I've read every bit of chat that was available... but want to hear from people who have actually participated, rcvd their degree, and have been able to obtain employment with it. I have a good deal of experience and track record... but this damn piece of paper seems to make or break certain positions (ex: pharmacuetical sales). Since I plan to go back to work when my kids are in school... I thought I'd better get my degree out of the way while I can. I'm in NY and would prefer a NY based college... but am open to any and all suggestions. Please only responses from people who have been there, done that!

Of course, tuition is also a consideration... as some of these online universities charge an astronomical fee per credit/class. I'd like to hear your experiences and advice.

  • Sleep Number Bed - Are they really worth it?

I'd like the opinions from those of you who have this mattress... and have had it for at least a year. Do you find the expense worth it? How has it held up? Is it still comfortable? I purchased a KingsDown mattress (which was "supposed" to be great) and I'm on my second king size mattress in two years. Not only did it turn out to be uncomfortable, it sags (and I'm barely 135 lbs.).

I've tried the sleep number bed and liked it (in the store that is).

I posted my question here because I want answers from other sleep deprived moms (and maybe some dad's...) out there. I have a 19 month old and an 8 week old... and need some decent sleep (since I don't get much of it these days).

  • What to eat if you have gestational diabetes???

I'm 37 weeks pregnant... and a couple of weeks ago, failed my glucose screening. I had taken the same screening at around 18 weeks and passed it then, but have seemed to develop it now. I'm going to be induced in 9 days... but am stir crazy about what to eat. I've been monitoring my blood sugar for the past 2 weeks... and for the most part have maintained it under 120. I've had a few readings between 125 - 169, and am trying to maintain a better diet. Considering it's so late in the pregnancy, I've tried to adjust my diet without having to see a nutritionist. My endocronologist seems to think I'm doing okay on my own... but I'm craving food all the time. I've never in my life had to watch what I eat... and these last 9 days before giving birth feel like a life sentence. I'm sick of eating carrot sticks and celery. Anyone have a similar experience and what foods were satisfying for you without setting bells off?
