  • gh: what the hell is going on?/?

So I haven't watched much of GH since the new year started, and I tuned in on Friday and I saw Patrick describing some big disaster, but I didn't really understand what was going on and I couldn't stay to watch the rest of the episode. I went online to ABC.com to read the episode recaps, but all it says is there was a "hospital tragedy". WHAT HAPPENED??

  • going to miami?

My friends and I are going to Miami in August. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on hotels to stay at. What about good beaches? What about hot night clubs? My friends and I want to check out a few clubs that are good: good music, great crowd, a good place to get some drinks, etc. Also, what other attractions/sites/events should we check out?

Any advice or insights on what we should do with our time would be great.

  • back spasms?

Yesterday morning I started getting this sharp pain in my lower back that felt like someone was squeezing my muscles as hard as they possibly could, as fast as they could. I went to the doctor to get checked out and he said it was muscle spasms, which is what I thought it was.

So I was wondering what are some good tips for dealing with it? I'm a nursing student who spends 8 hours sitting in lecture each class day, with limited breaks, and has to run around the hospital during clinicals taking care of patients, changing beds, bathing, lifting, moving, etc. I could use some tips on how to not only prevent the spasms but how to treat them when they come on, since muscle relaxants aren't really an option when I'm in clinical. I know ibuprofen will probably work fine for the pain, and heating pads should help, but what else?

    Thanks.

  • my first nursing care plan...HELP!?

I was given a fictional patient for a case study, our first taste of nursing care plans and I'm a little stuck. The patient, MS, is a 59 y/o woman admitted to the ER with pneumonia. My instructor gave us four nursing diagnoses, one of which we are supposed to "work up". I'm doing activing intolerance. Part of the info says that she is unable to walk to bathroom without getting shortness of breath. For my "nursing goals", what would be a good goal to have for the end of shift? In the book all it says is "goals: assist patient with ADLs", but I don't think that's specific enough for my instructor. I can't just have "pt will ambulate to bathroom by end of shift", that seems a bit quick, I know she wouldn't be able to do it. Would something like "pt will ambulate with assistance to bathroom by end of shift" be better? Or something less like "pt will ambulate to chair with assistance by end of shift"? It's closer, probably more manageable. Any ideas or advice would be great! Thanks!!

  • Christians, a poll about the Bible?

If you were stranded on an island and could only have ONE book of the Bible with you, which would you choose? My Bible study I'm in asked me this the other day and it got me thinking. Of the people they polled, the majority chose Romans, feeling that it was the most concise book on all essentials of Christian faith. Personally, I think I would choose Philippians because it is a book of joy; true joy found in the truth of Christ, knowing that God is strong than death and often turns evil into good. I love that the most joyous book in the Bible comes from the pen of an author chained up in a Roman prison.

What book would you choose, and why?

  • Question about British tv and seasons?

Ok so I am a big fan of Doctor Who and Torchwood, but I noticed that they both only have 13 episodes each season (well if you count the Christmas specials, Doctor Who has 14) and was wondering if other British series were like that? Do they all have typically 13 or do some have less, some have more? I know that in the States, to be considered a "full season" they need at least 13 episodes, most full seasons of shows are between 16 and 24. So I was just curious how British tv worked, in terms of how long the seasons are.

Oh, and do they all start around the same time; like here in the States most shows start their season in the fall (late August or early September) and end in May, with usually a short break over Christmas.

  • Torchwood question?

Ok so I am a HUGE Doctor Who and Torchwood fan, the only problem is that I live in the States. Luckily for me, the SciFi channel is playing Doctor Who this summer but I want to watch Torchwood, too. I read (in a lot of places actually) that Torchwood is coming to BBC America sometime this summer, but I can't find out when. I've looked online at their website and they don't have the exact date.

So I was wondering if anyone knew when BBC America is going to start airing Torchwood?

  • older movies?

I see all these people talking about how their favorite movies are really recent movie. And don't get me wrong there have been some good movies lately, but old hollywood movies, at least in my opinion, are so much better. I mean now it's all about special effects and toping the other guy's movie; it's not about great lines, good actors, wonderful directors, and an all around well made movie.

So I was wondering if any of you watch older movies, and if so, what's your favorite? Who are your favorite actors and actresses to watch? Any good suggestions for me?

My favorite is Casablanca. I mean it's Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.

  • angiograms?

My dad had a stress test recently and the results showed some "potential blockage" in the lower right quadrant of his heart (sorry don't know anything more specific about that) and his doctor recommended an angiogram to see if it is blockage or just a "false positive". So my dad is going to have an angiogram done in the next couple of weeks. I've been doing some light research on the procedure and have a general understanding of what's going on but have some questions. Is it an actual, full out surgical procedure with anesthesthia and in an OR, the whole thing? If they find blockage, they'll fix it right there? His doctor was talking about stents. Are stents the best choice to stop the blockage or is just a matter of preference? If there is blockage, how well will a stent work? Do they need to be replaced? How dangerous is the procedure? What kind of after care will he need? He is type 2 diabetic, how does this affect the procedure?

Any insight you can give me is appreciated.

  • The Black Donelleys fans...?

I apologize now for this not actually being a question, sorry. Ok so for those of you fans who are so sad that NBC cancelled "The Black Donelleys", I'm here to tell you all is NOT lost!! Apparently we've become such a fanatical fan base that NBC is considering bringing back the show next season. They are also airing all the already made but never aired on TV episodes online. They are going to wait and see what kind of ratings the online episodes get before making any decisions about a second season. So if you want the show back, go online and watch the episodes! They are going to 'air' in the original TV time slot (Mondays, 10/9c), so get clicking!

Here's where I first heard about this: http://www.eonline.com/gossip/kristin/detail/index...

oh, who is your favorite character, and why?? ok so I DID ask a question...

  • General Hospital fans?

lately I've become a HUGE GH fan, started watching obsessively since last summer and watch sporadically before that. Since I'm fairly new to the show, I'm missing a few things, so I have a couple of questions for you die hard fans.

-what's the deal with Scott Baldwin? I know that he and Laura were an item before she was with Luke, but beyond that I don't know much about him? Why does everyone hate him so much? Where'd he go? What's he doing back now?

-I've read a lot about them bringing Brenda back. Who is she?

ok that's all I've got for now, although I'm sure to have more questions later. Thanks.

  • Nursing school?

Ok so I got accepted to two nursing schools and am trying to decide between them. My question for all of you who are in nursing school, or went to, how did you decide where to go? If you got accepted to more than one school, how did you decide? Both schools I got accepted to are good; good teachers, great curriculum, good pass rates for the boards, etc., so how do I choose between them? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Also, what was nursing school like? Any tips for being successful?

    Thanks for your help.

  • Nursing school?

Ok so I got accepted to both Texas Women's University College of Nursing-Houston and the University of Texas-Houston School of Nursing. Yay! And both programs are really good, with a high percentage of students who pass the boards and make very sucessful nurses. Also UT-H was placed in the top 5% of nursing schools for doctorate degrees.

My problem is I don't know which one to go to. They are both good and I'd be happy at either. So I was wondering if any of you went to/go to/or know anyone who goes to either school (and not necessarily for nursing)??

Or for those of you are in or went to nursing school, what was it like? What made you choose the school you went to over another school? Any tips for making my decision? Or just tips for surviving nursing school in general?

  • Help with dealing with skin allergies...?

A couple of months ago I had a really bad "outbreak" of contact dermatitis; I was covered in hives all over my chest, arms, legs, and stomach. I try and avoid the things I know I'm allergic to (silver and nickel in jewelry, etc) but I don't know what caused the massive outbreak. Since then I've had chronic itchness and frequently have smaller scale outbreaks of hives. I've tried switching everything from deodorant, detergent, not using any perfume, changing soap, etc. and am still having problems. I take Zertec for a everyday anti-histamine and I have really bad "outbreaks" on the days I don't take it. And the high humidity lately is only making things worse. Anyone deal with this and have any good remedies? anyone have any good advice?
