  • Philosophical Question on how much is too much?

I feel like the answer to this question is more based on justified belief than fact, but I want to hear your thoughts anyways. So, we've all heard something along the lines of "you have to sacrifice in order to gain" or "progress requires a struggle". I think it's commonly accepted that success and progress are accepted as good things, but how much is too much? If we constantly have to give in order to get, when should we stop giving and just live with what we have? I know this sounds a lot like I'm asking when should you cut your losses, but that's not what I'm asking. Here's an example, a man makes ten thousands dollars off stock x, but he is presented with the option to take money out of stock x and put it into stock y. So his options are, continue to make constant gains from stock x, or reallocate funds into stock y which potentially could make him exponential gains or potentially cause him to suffer exponential losses. Now, if you were looking at this example literally, I'm sure you could answer this from an economic standpoint where you weigh the trade-offs and mathematically figure out the proper re-allocation. However, I'm asking you to consider it from a philosophical standpoint. If you're already well-off, should you make the sacrifice to get more? If you should, at what point does it stop being a struggle for progress and become greed? Don't take the example I put too literally, you can apply these questions to anything really.

  • Philosophical question about facts?

I'm no expert on any of this stuff, so if I what I'm saying is completely off basis then you can just tell me that. With that being said, here's what I've been thinking about. If you believe in the idea that our universe is infinite and that outside of this infinite universe there's more infinite universes and there's no end. Then everything should exist. Anything that is possible or impossible or something beyond possible or impossible should occur. Assuming we believe all of that, how do we define facts? If anything and everything is a part of reality, than facts certainly must be. However, facts must be true, but how can anything be true when all things are true. If I say that 1+1=2 is a fact. But 1+1 can also equal 3, 4, 5, 6, or anything else because in this theory of infinite possibility all of those outcomes are possible. Then is 1+1=2 really a fact? I don't know if I'm explaining this correctly or if I'm just tossing around nonsense in my head. I'd like to hear any opinions from people more informed than I am. Thanks!

  • How do I find the maximum speed a car can turn a curve safely?

I have a (very) basic understanding of the physics behind it. I've come up with the equation v = sqrt[(μs)(g)(r)]. (Velocity = square root of (coefficient of static friction) times (gravitational constant) times (radius)). I came to this equation by setting Ffs = Fc because if a car is going around a curve then the centripetal force is the static friction force. If this equation is wrong then please explain to me how to properly find the maximum speed a car can turn a curve safely. If this equation is right then here's the next part of my question. I've determined the radius of the curve is 10 meters. However, how do I find the rest of the information? I can choose any vehicle I want.

  • What s this type of movie called?

Have you ever watched a movie with a really complicated plot, but everything is put together at the end (usually with a scene where it goes back and show previous scenes at a different point of view or something). Most of the ones I can think of are time travel movies like Pre-destination or Time Lapse. Is there a name for these kind of movies?

  • I might fail Algebra II, what can I do?

We are currently on chapter 6 of the curriculum, and I started the year strong but started slipping around chapter 4. By Chapter 5 I was just barley holding on because the concepts accumulate and I just couldn't really understand what was happening anymore. What can I do? Should I talk to my teacher, is it possible for me to go through all these chapters by myself and self teach it? How can I catch up before it's too late?

  • How much would it cost to fix a burst pipe?

I don't really know much about this stuff so I can't really go into detail. All I know is that if I turn on the shower upstairs the ceiling downstairs starts to leak water. How much would it cost to fix the pipe and repair the ceiling if need be.

  • Could I lose a pound a week by jogging an hour everyday?

Assuming all other factors are in check (eating right, sleeping well, etc...) could I lost 1 pound every week by jogging an hour everday? I'm thinking about jogging for 30 minutes twice a day everyday and my aim is to lose a pound everyweek. Is that a realistic goal?

  • How do I get rid of the musty smell in my clothes?

Ok, so when I last did my laundry, my dryer was not working, so I hung them up just around the house. My mom was not happy about this and yelled at me to take them down, so I folded them and put them away in a drawer even though some of them were still damp. Now two of my shirts have a kind of musty, moldy stench. Should I just wash it again and dry it properly this time or is there some kind of special thing I have to do?

  • What should I listen to while I farm(grind) in a game?

So I play this game which requires a lot of farming in order to get items. For those who don t already know farming is when you have to continuously do the same task over and over again in order to collect the rewards because you need a large quantity of that reward. I feel like farming is a lot like driving where it s a generally simple task but it takes time which is why we have the radio for it. It s rather boring to spend a large amount of time doing the same thing over and over again but I feel like it d be less boring if I were listening to music or some radio comedy or podcast or something. Which brings me to my original question what should I listen to while I farm?
