Phoenix: Princess of Cupcakes
Yeah, I finally got deleted. Good-bye 32,000 points. It was only a matter of time. But I always say, live every week like it's Shark Week. I believe in: Equal rights for everyone, including gay marriage. Religious freedom for EVERYONE, not just the majority. Contributing rather than taking away (except perhaps on here, which is my vent). Being thankful for what you have had the privilege of experiencing in life, not being mad or sad that you didn't get more. MLB pitchers being decent hitters.
Would bran muffins be a good way to bulk up for my next meet?
I've heard that fiber is a component of muscles - like muscle fibers. So I think I should eat a lot of it to get strong.

22 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoAtheists: Which god are you banking on "just in case"?
Brahmin? Xenu? Hathor? Frigg?
Which god have you been pretending to worship just in case we turn out to be wrong? I personally keep a fake altar to Chac Mool in my basement. He's kind of feisty, so he's the last god I'd want to torque off in the event there really are gods.
I mean, shouldn't you believe, just in case?

25 AnswersElections1 decade agoCould the Large Hadron Collider actually end the world...?
...as we know it? It has the potential to provide much information about the world that was previously unknown or a mystery. By furthering our understanding of the universe, could it undercut religion? Could the knowledge we gain make religion obsolete?
I'm inclined to believe that most people wouldn't understand the information we gain and would reject any theories that refute religious ideas about the world on principle, just like evolution. I mean, evolution isn't that difficult to understand, and yet people don't "believe" it. Could physics possibly make a dent in the religious community? Or even completely invalidate religion? Would enough people get it?
I really just wanted to ask another "the collider is going to kill us" question. But what are your thoughts?
29 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow do you feel about the PBS show Evolution?
If you don't believe in evolution, do you think it's silly for them to have a show about it?
19 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDid God create the ENTIRE universe, or just everything IN it?
Was there absolutely nothing but God in the beginning or was God -somewhere-? If there was nothing before God made it, how exactly did he exist? Or where?
This is obviously for those of you who believe in god(s). I use "God" as a generic.
27 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHave we forgotten 12/7?
Why don't we have an annual "grief-fest" for the 2350 people who died at Pearl Harbor? Was that tragedy really an less, well, tragic, than 9/11? Yes, we have a quasi-memorial day, but nothing like what has developed for 9/11. So what's the difference? Or will we forget about 9/11 in 60 years, too?
24 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDo you believe that, were there an all powerful god, the universe would be torn apart?
That is, if there were a being that could break the laws of physics, etc. (which is a large part of my definition of a god) do you think it would destroy the universe, or at least throw it into utter chaos?
Just curious.
7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow many of you had really great childhoods? Great parents?
And what's your religion?
No, I'm not trying to imply the two are connected in general, but would be interested in hearing if your personal experience showed a connection.
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDoes the fact that you could die at any moment eliminate any concern over the end of the world for you?
Since we might not even see tomorrow, does it make the end of the entire earth insignificant? I'm sure we're all within 100 years of our own "end times".
I guess what I'm thinking is that I know I could die on the way home from work; I'm not going to get all hung up on some end of the world prophecy because I might not even make it that long and I've had a good run as it is anyway. I just seems silly to have all these doomsday prophecies when you can't even count on tomorrow.
What do you think?
I do feel we should refrain from exacerbating or causing Armageddon, however.
15 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoOn a scale of 1 to 10, how important is it to you to be part of a community?
1 being not at all important and 10 being extremely important.
Does that factor into your religion or lack thereof? Do you think it makes religious assembly more or less important to you? If you are not religious and crave a community, what community do you operate in instead?
12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWill fundamentalist religion be the end of the two party system?
After decades of Democrats and Republicans being our only real options in the US, many have wondered when third parties would break through tradition and present viable candidates. Now it seems that the Republican party is becoming increasingly far-right Christian. Could this be what brings the Republican party down and opens the flood gates for third parties to successfully foray into politics?
20 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDo you think the GOP lost some of the Christian vote by bringing on Palin, whose unwed daughter is pregnant?
As many Christians feel that pre-marital sex is a sin, do you think that adding a candidate who has an unwed pregnant teenage daughter would or did turn off some of the far-right voters?
I'm not looking for judgment of Palin based on her daughter here. I'm wondering if the simple fact that her unwed daughter is pregnant lost the GOP some votes, regardless of Palin's own skills or ability as a candidate, given that abstinence until marriage is a big deal for many Christians.
28 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs it worth it to go to Norway in the winter if I don't do winter sports?
Since it's mostly dark, would I be able to see the sights and get a lot out of the visit? I realize that the summer is a better time to visit, but my vacation is in December.
2 AnswersOther - Europe1 decade agoIs it an acceptable tactic to alter information from credible sources to make your point?
Such as the "definition" given in this question:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=200808...
You'll notice that she completely forged her own "dictionary definition" to bash Catholics and imply that they worship Mary. Is this an acceptable tactic? It certainly seems very common. What does it say about a person when falsehoods are all they have to support their stance?
26 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy do people think things like "atheism is the need to assert man as the highest of all beings"?
Only if we operated through a God perspective could we see any reason to assert that any being is the highest of all beings. This whole "highest of all beings" idea is not even something that atheists think about. We don't view the world that way (most of us, anyway). Is it so difficult to look at the world from a non-theistic perspective to see that an idea like the one in my question is ridiculous?
I realize that humans try to explain the world through what they know, and theists know a world with "higher beings", so they would apply that concept to atheists, but atheists just don't follow that concept, so that conceptualization of how atheists operate is way off base.
So, where do people get these ideas and why can't they see how the differences in the way atheists view the world (compared to theists) make such characterizations completely invalid?
23 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDoes God's plan for us ever include going to hell?
Some say things like "it's all part of God's plan." This implies that God sets out at least some part of our lives. Does he ever set out the part where we don't accept him and go to hell for it? Is NOT setting out the part where we DO accept him and go to heaven just as bad?
